Just wanted to share a quick shot I just took of Chewie now that I have him all combed out. This is straight out of the box, no pastels or fur lightening of any kind. Just working with the lighting a tiny bit. See what you think!

Great photo. This figure looks so much like the actual movie costume it's unreal, and at 1/6 scale too.

EDIT: makes you wonder why companies have so much trouble with rooted hair. Maybe HT will use the lessons they've learnt here to make better hair on human figures?

Is this just with the HT comb? ZE got some amazing results using it.

I just rolled my eyes when I saw the comb because I thought it would be useless but need to give it a shot.

Looks great Qui Gon! The lighting here is perfect for Chewie. Really one of the most realistic shots I've seen so far. :clap

Well, yes and no... I tore my house apart last night looking for that damned comb (which I put away in what I thought was a safe place), only to find that my wife trashed it thinking it was a stray comb from one of my daughter's Barbies. Had to read her e riot act when I told her it was for one of MY Barbies!

Anyway, to your question, if I had my Chewie comb, that's what I would have used. Without this, I had to revert to my standard black grocery store comb (using the "wide side" only, of course) which did a fine job. But no product, no inks or dyes (not even water), just the comb.

Cheers!

That's great to hear. I just picked up a Chewie from a local comic store, and haven't worked up the nerve to even start futzing with him. I was terrified of using some product and even water. Glad to know that you got great results with just a comb and some persistence!

Thanks - the combing will begin tomorrow and yes, out of range of Barbies so no one gets confused - including me.

FINALLY -Scotland is having some sunshine. Took chewie out of the Detolf for a quick photoshoot!

Chewbacca is a very special 1/6 case.

Articulation and expressive capabilities for this figure are off the charts, but to get him to where you want...it takes trial and error and literally hours.

Because re-posing means more time sunk futzing, I see him as a very impressive, very expensive accessory. If ever there was a figure to set and forget, this is it.

I say that having put yet more hours into him recently, with the final result was a combination of practice and serendipity. You can't always quite control where that fur lines up. I have Chewie where I want him right now, and don't intend to re-pose for a very long time. I'll post pictures in a little while -- I went for something very subtle and specific.

I should win a prize for fan-boy OCD on this one, but I've been adamant about not doing anything irreversible on this piece, so comb-only for me, no mods. The area around the eyes is a little dark, but right now that's more a lighting issue than anything else.

Having gone to town on this figure, I can tell you its very few, very minor structural flaws:

The arms are a little thick. Mayhew was/is very lanky, and the shoulders might be a touch too broad. Both issues may be addressed via posing and futzing.

The eyes are set too close or they're not quite long enough, or it could be perception based on fur colour. At any rate, I find that meticulous yet agressive fur manipulation around the cheeks and orbitals can enable you to cheat your way around the eyes and make them look better.

You guys be the judge, I have some work emails to attend to, and I'll whip out the iPhone pics after that.

Looking at my Chewie. I still think "yup, his face is too dark". But I can't help but love him.

After about 3 weeks of waiting for my package to ship from Japan my Chewie finally arrived today! Found him for a little over $300. At the time I purchased him I thought that was a lot, but man have those prices skyrocketed.

I'll post pictures, but I really only have a cell, so they probably won't be that great.

Hey, you aren't the only one. My hd cam was given to a family member years ago and never got a new one. So, between bills and a spreading of different hobbies... I only have the iphone for pics and videos.

I find the stock figure feet were covered with too much fur. So...

The supplied comb is handy also. Using the comb handle. I just poke those fur under his mouth is pull it out. Trying to copy a picture of a behind a scene of chewy.
