Executive Replicas had this on display at Toyfair a while back, but it never materialized... it may yet come to pass.
In fact, I'll ask them about it the next time we talk. I was told they'll be shut down until after Chinese new year (February...19th I think?) then our talks will resume.


I REALLY hope we see the pod too, Kl241... A great display would be Dave Bowman inside with no helmet, and Frank Poole's dead body outside grasped in the robotic claws.

At first glance, I thought to myself, "Oh great- another item I would kill to own, but can never afford." ... the $400 is pretty harsh, along with all of my other pre-orders. Then I found out that MonstersInMotion will accept loose payments, after you send them a NRD of $100. Works for me, considering we have six or seven months to wait...

Something I've been meaning to talk about: The polished metal fittings.
The neck / wrist / ankle rings look VERY nicely done. Real metal can make all the difference when it appears in the right places. That makes me wish the silver-painted details on the whole spacesuit were real polished metal, especially on the chest control box. It wouldn't be too difficult to create Photoshop images for those, and have them laser-etched from thin sheets of aluminum...

I just had a long telephone conversation with the president of Executive Replicas...

INCREDIBLE NEWS:
They ARE producing a 1/6 scale space pod, with a fully detailed AND LIT interior. Amazing. They are trying to have it released by Christmas of this year. The bad news is, it will retail for between $1,500 and $2,000. I told him that I have also done extensive research on the space pod, and he suggested that I might receive one if I contribute substantially to the accuracy of that project as well. (WOW.)

MORE GOOD NEWS: They are going to produce the green emergency suit also. I suggested that they make available an add-on accessory set which would include the green helmet and gloves only, to be sold separately for the Keir Dullea figure- that idea was well received. I also suggested that they produce a 1/6 monolith, and he liked that idea also. We both agreed it would be very simple to do.

While I am quite adept at mechanical/technological illustration, my sculptural talents lean more toward the organic; I told him this, and I told him that I have been planning for many years to make a fully articulated 1/6 'Moonwatcher' hominid figure, complete with body hair and opening mouth. He sounded VERY excited about that idea, and wants to work with me to pursue it in the future. Compared to a human figure at 12 inches, the Moonwatcher would likely be about 9 inches tall, or 4.5 feet in life scale.

Needless to say, I am in a state of high stokedness...

The space pod sounded fantastic right up to the $1.500-$2K price range. If they can get it under a grand I might pick it up. I'm actually most stoked about the Moonwatcher, just include the bone and maybe the zebra(?) carcass. The monolith also sounds great depending on price because it should be pretty simple. The only other things I'd like to see is a HAL9000 (again very simple unless there's a voice chip or something) and a Star-Child (maybe encased in a lucite sphere). I might pick up the green helmet if it's inexpensive, but that not a big deal to me.

Looking forward to this all coming together.

I have a short window of time available to provide as much data to the company as possible before the pod goes into production, so I'm jumping on it.

For me the only hangup would be the size of this thing. I'm guessing it would end up being somewhere between a medicine ball and a basketball?

Quick thought on exterior lighting - would they go with the lights shown in the proto pics here or use LEDs? The lights in the proto look yellower (and weaker) and so are maybe technically more screen accurate, but IMO LEDs would be a much better option.

$2000?! Are they nuts? I wish these companies would make these larger items as kits that could sell for less (i.e. Dragon Models large 1/6 kits). At $2000 they aren't going to sell many and will generally turn off buyers to other product (like not being able to complete collecting a certain line because some items are too expensive). And not many people really need 1 billion percent accurate, fully lit interior pod that actually flies around your room and makes you dinner and walks the dog. Even if it had no interior or a basic simple interior I'd be more than happy and would buy it at a reasonable price.

I never thought anyone would ever do a 1/6 scale pod, much less with a complete and lighted interior/exterior. Just think how large this thing will be, that it can fit TWO 12" figures inside... All things considered, I understand the cost. Not a lot will sell, but not many are being made either. Keep in mind, this is a small company- we're not talking Hot Toys here. If this is out of reach for many people, there are various smaller model kits, but most of them suck. The Captain Cardboard 1/12 scale is very good, but hard to find. I'm hoping that Moebius Models will produce one; they did a very nice moonbus from 2001, and their kits are superb in detail and cast quality. Speaking of superb, another reason I understand the cost of the 1/6 scale pod by Executive Replicas is the quality- just look at this beauty, it's like a studio scale prop...

Well will have to see what ends up being made and how much it costs. An accurate, highly detailed model could certainly be interesting, so it's possible I would pick one up. But I'm more interested in HAL, Star-Child, monolith and Moonwatcher. If those are made the Pod could be the centerpiece.

I'd be all in for Moonwatcher, and maybe the others depending on how they were done. I'd see a 1/6 monolith being awesome, but I'm not sure how a star child would work out. It'd be something to keep an eye on.

Anyone preorder with GoHero and not get charged the NRD? I put in preorders for both Poole and Bowman about a month ago and have not been charged. I suppose this is one of those things not to worry about, but still - seems odd.

Here's a sampling of the EVA POD computer screen images I'm doing for the 1/6 scale lit interior. I made a total of 55 high-res, screen-accurate images like this. Some are rather plain, some are more exotic and interesting. These can be used as static back-lit gels in the POD, but I really wish the company would install functioning screens so these images could be animated. My AT&T flip-phone has an LCD screen that is the perfect scale size, 1 and 1/4 inches square... I'm sure that isn't going to happen, but these will look nice with simple back lighting anyway.
