Maybe they're just working on the scale of R2 because it was obviously way off when they previewed it. Not sure how they got C-3PO so accurate yet R2 was wrong all round.

I still can't believe how awesome Threepio turned out.

I'm at the point now that I don't care who releases it, SS or Tamashii. Ideally Tamashii since they did a great job on 3PO. It's quite sad when you think about it though, an iconic character such as R2D2 you would think they'd be on it by now. It's obvious that R2 would sell like hot cakes.

It could not possibly be more of a money maker regardless of who makes it. You would think that Sideshow would get on top of this one and get it made!

Lol, never kept close track of that one, but remember kind of smugly laughing to myself, in regards to some of the posts, there. :(

Anybody try emailing them? Google does a horrid job of translating their website, so it's not an easy task. I might ask one of friends from work to try it for me.

That woul be cool, let us know if you find something out!

Just found I never uploaded this: :lol

Toy Fair seems like the perfect place for someone to ask them! Anyone out there?

If not, there will be plenty of us who'll go to SDCC or NYCC. No excuses. I will definitely ask them about R2 again if there's been any progress when I go to NYCC this year.

Oh and nice photos, Pirate! I always thought you could kinda do ESB Bespin Threepio in pieces with this figure. If only we had Chewie to carry him! :impatient:

How could the people at Sideshow live with themselves and look themselves in the mirror on a daily basis knowing they made Battle Droids before R2 and 3PO?

Here's a possible situation:

Sideshow sub-licenses 1/6 scale 3PO and R2 to Tamashii - they work on it for a few years
Sideshow develops and produces a droids PF which doesn't compete with the sub-license
Tamashii screws the pooch with their sub-license and release only 3PO
Sideshow is now left without a completed 1/6 droid set - they have to start developing their own or sub-license out to someone else - this takes time.

Thanks!

So true, that would be very iconic! :rock Not sure if it was 1/6 but I remember having seen something kitbashed in this direction a while back, looked pretty cool.

I just got this today. Man this is a piece of art. The feel of diecast combined with the beautiful craftsmanship. Bad news is I'm now hooked on collecting star wars figures in additional to iron man :slap

Why are people assuming they'd do a good job with something like vader?

The threepio is great but it's a completely different thing, it's all diecast it's all sculpted etc. Vader has a human body and cloth elements etc. Things that Tama has no proven record in producing in 1/6.

Not getting 2R is a huge kick in the nut sack though.

I think they would be good in regards to the scale and accuracy of Vader's parts.
As long as the same Star Wars guru-scholar guy is in charge of the project.

Just look at every Vader 1/6 thread. There's always been a debate as to whether or not the shape of the dome is correct. This goes for Sideshow, Medi, etc.
