Caved and ordered these, they just look too cool to pass up. After reading about all the breakages, I'm going to be terrified to take them out of the damn box!:)

You won't be sorry. And really, the only people who broke theirs where the guys who had them in-hand first. I think the rest of us learned how to handle them from their mistakes.

havent had time to pose these guys yet....too busy with my lil bubba ...used reward points and as batty said....getting these a little later is a good learning curve.

Also, thanks to the dude who updated me with the non HT help with these.
the best thing we can do now is let sideshow know how much we appreciate these figures either thru email or reviews on their site.
im sure they would hear more whining than positive feedback??

Thanks! I certainly will handle them carefully! I have always had a soft spot for B Droids, ever since the first Phantom Menace "stap" release, and these look awesome.

Can't wait to get them! Great pics Glennfett, love the packaging.
:yess:

Great idea! I'll be leaving a review on their site.

Got mine today and WOW! Major kudos to SSC for doing these! Not only highly detailed, but the articulation is super fun - amazing, really, that you can get so much poseability out of such frail looking figures. As I was posing these figures, I rediscovered my appreciation of the design aesthetic for these guys, that same thrill I had in the early hype days of Ep I, when these droids seemed like they would be more lethal and less stupid in execution. I find myself really looking forward to the STAP. :yess:

I have the same nits as everyone else: magnets on the backpacks should have been a no-brainer, they fall off a little too readily. Magnetic stands for their feet to stick to would have been a nice touch as well. It is tricky to get them to grasp the blasters well. Care must be taken in loosening up the joints, they are very stiff at first. Wish the fingers were individually articulated. The pluses outweigh these minuses by about tenfold, though, the design is just beautiful and the price is a real bargain for the two-pack. If they can iron out these small wrinkles for the future releases of security, pilot, OOM-9, etc., then those will be a solid 10/10. Soooooo, excited for IG-88 and Grievous now!!! :banana

Nah, don't be. Handle them with a little TLC at first, be mindful of the shoulders and elbows until they've loosened a bit, and extend the necks with slow, gentle, steady pressure (rocking/wiggling them carefully side to side while extending helps, also). Once you're past that point, you're home free!

I have faith in Sideshow in making the Droideka, but it's the shield that troubles me. I mean a 1/6 shield for the droideka would be as big a small TV.

Good lord! As if a droideka itself wouldn't be a shelf-hog, I can't even imagine trying to include the shield...! :panic:

The destroyer droid would be a beauty to behold and a feat of 1/6 engineering, but I'm not sure they have enough presence in the movies to make it worth the R & D for SSC? That, and they don't lend themselves well to repaint/variants to help defray the costs of development, which would necessitate a higher price point for these to make a profit.

Got mine out of the box and posed last night, great figs in every way. As some people have mentioned they are not 100% screen accurate, but they are 100% perfect as far as I'm concerned. My only problem with them so far is that I can't get the head to turn side to side. I don't want to apply to much pressure for fear of breaking the tiny little ball joint that keeps the head attached to the neck. Besides that, all the other articulation is top notch IMO.

Actually they had plenty of screen time take this for instance:

SW Epi I TPM

First seen when Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon try to force door to open.

Battle of Naboo Gungan assault on plains, you see a lot of them on the battle field.

When Anakin gets in Naboo Starfighter and Padme and the gang are held up.

When Padme is captured near the Queen's chamber.

SW Epi II AOTC

Obi-Wan's Holo Transmission

When Jango Fett captures Anakin in the Droid Factory.

Arena Battle.

SW Epi III ROTS

Invisible Hand's hallway when Obi-Wan and Anakin go to elevators.

When Obi-Wan says,"Hello There," on Utapau

All in all, good screen time. Be quite honest OOM-9 had less screen time than the Droideka. Of course I'm not counting the appearances of the TCW.

For instance:

SW Epi I TPM

Reports to Gunray when he lands.

Orders Captain of Security guard to take Queen to Camp 4.

Says, "Open Fire!" at plains battle.

SW Epi II AOTC

(Has Geonosian Colors.) Gets killed by Mace Windu in Arena.

SW Epi III ROTS

Says, "Your welcome." to General Grievous on Invisble Hand after giving the Jedi's lightsabers to him.

Though the Droideka has only one appearance in the films, does not necessarily mean that SSC can't repaint it in different colors or have redesign add-ons. After all, we have to take in context that there are many EU sources of Droideka appearances. Including Republic Commando's design as well as Jedi Power Battles' design of the Grapple Droideka.

Jedi Power Battles

Also, since this thread discusses "What if?" droids. After viewing ROTS I find that SSC could make a Crab Droid. What do you think of that?

Boy, hope I don't get IG-88 first :lol Or if I do just expect pictures of the box :lol

Cool, didn't realize about the different numbers on the packs... wonder how many total variations there are?

Someone probably needs to start a list... I'll update later with mine.

That's funny how the symbols are all the same, but a different combo. Even more interesting is the wear seems different overall, bu t you haev the exact same drip coming off of the vent in the middle of both packs.

It would be interesting to know how the wear and letters were randomized (or at least given the appearance of being random) at the factory level.

It was probably like a date stamp; just turn the wheels for different symbols.

I just got home from work. I'll have to check mine out.

Edit: Nope. I was wrong. Mine are exactly like The Craw's.
