Okay, I caved in and ordered the exclusive. 4/4 on exclusives. Woot! :D

So my only question now is: Why the vast edition size differences in the four fellowship characters so far?

Exc. Aragorn - 550
Exc. Gandalf - 400
Exc. Legolas - 350
Exc. Gimli - 500

Is it because of previous sales in other lines? Lack of Gimli from SS thus far? Two Gandalf's being available simultaneously? Just wondering...

And I meant to say earlier Josh, reading the books is on my priority list. I have read The Hobbit, last summer, and enjoyed it immensely. Read the first book of LOTR (first half of FOTR, I suppose) way back when the films were first announced. But I guess reading comics for so long has me lacking the ability to maintain for the long read. I'm hoping for this summer, after Spring semester and before Fall, and praying I get into school in earnest this year. That will be my LOTR reading window...

Well, ordered!!! :D

I think probably its partly due to it being the first Gimli piece but also I think its based on character pop in general. Legolas never seems to sell that well and I would guess Arwen will be around 350 for the ES on her.

They're long reads but once you get into them its a great great read. I do believe you will enjoy them a ton. :rock

Congrats :rock

No doubt the popularity of each character plays a role, but I also think the numbers of the former SSW line are being taken into consideration. Gandalf and Legolas were open editions and were available for pre-order the entire 5 year run of the SSW line...I'd be shocked if there aren't 7000-10,000 of each of these floating around. Aragorn was also an open edition, but only available for one year. It's prod. was stopped well before LOTR mania took place and it is generally thought to have an ES in the 500-750 range. Gimli was the only one with a set ES at 2000....more than Aragorn, but significantly less than Gandalf and Legolas.

Exc. Aragorn - 550 First of the line. Favorite character to a lot of fans
Exc. Gandalf - 400 The PF was realeased not long ago
Exc. Legolas - 350 Some just don't like a girly elf or Orlando
Exc. Gimli - 500 Well loved character not represented in PF or 1/6

Just my take :D

Ordered the exclusive! I must say, this guy has really grown on my the last couple of days. I have all four exclusives ordered, and I think they will look great together!

Did anyone else notice that in the 360 you can see the severed spine sticking out of the Orc?

Thats sick.

So glad I ordered this one.

That's a severed spine all right. Still can't figure out what killed him though....:monkey3

A quick note about the orc corpse. The intent of the design was that he was killed in the previous battle for Moria, and has been lying about awhile. Hence the mummified aspect, withered eye sockets, open nasal cavity, desiccated flesh. Even the axe was designed around one of the background axes seen briefly in the establishing shot of the Moria interior. Thought I'd let you in on the design process.

Nice! Thanks for the info. Now, that you mention it the axe does look like the one you see at the start of the journey in Moria.

Just pre-ordered mine!! YEAH!! Gandalf is coming, and Legolas and Gimli are pre-ordered. Aragorn has already arrived, so who's next??

I like to document my first impression so as time goes by I can see how my impressions have changed. :lol

My take on some of the comments made so far...

1.) The ladder does look a little out of place but it wouldn't bother me.
2.) I have no problem with the facial expression. It looks like he's focused on the kill.
3.) Now that's an exclusive. It isn't a necessity but it adds a lot to the base.
4.) The detail seems more prominent on this Gimli than the SSW Gimli which has more subtle detail.
5.) I've mentioned this before but the chainmail on this statue looks like actual chainmail while the chainmail on the SSW Gimli is more accurate to the costume worn by JRD which doesn't look like chainmail.
6.) Someone tell me again why I'm not collecting this line? :slap :lol

Thanks for the insight Tim, and for this fantastic addition to the maquette line. I gathered the Orc had been there for quite awhile.... The rusty axe planted in his chest is a dead giveaway. :)
