Yes, the color is definitely lighter than the proto. You may also notice (to Asmus' credit) that the beard has lost all the styled waviness that wasn't really accurate. I honestly think the color is fine. For as many pictures as you can find with a darker grey, you can find ones that match this. When Gandalf the White is released, as long as the hair is pure white and easily distinguishable from this one, then I'm good.

Any updates on the gandalf head Asmus?
I have supported your company since the beginning with nazgul yet we are being punished for buying the figure too early and no options to upgrade.

Please deliver your promise! If you couldn't deliver then don't give us hope!

IIRC they have said that the replacement heads will get released sometime after the full figure, so I'm going to patiently wait a bit longer on this. If we don't hear something about it by the beginning of 2021 I'll be beyond frustrated.

Yeah, the color grading and lighting in the movies shift around from scene to scene. (For instance, the scene outside Moria in the Extended FOTR has his hair and beard looking very dark.) So I'm 100% fine with the color here.

Because this thing is GORGEOUS.

I think it looks good but I'll wait to see what it looks like completed before praising or criticizing. Considering the cost of the figure I sure hope they got the color of the hat right this time.

I predict that anyone holding off on preordering this in the hope that Asmus does end up releasing the head by itself is making a big mistake that they will come to regret.
The figure is almost sold out everywhere already.
I don?t think the head release is going to end up happening and there will be a bunch of folks who end up wishing that they had just committed to the figure while it was still available.
I am guessing that come January you will not be able to find this figure for south of $600 usd on the secondary market.

I don't have a need for a head. But they said they'd do them several times, so why would they suddenly decide not to and annoy loyal customers ?

I could see they have Priority #1 on new full figures. And then have a second run on heads when they're done with the figures.

Imagine if you were putting all that hair on 1/6 heads stand by stand. I know Id be wanting a break before doing another run.

When I passed on this set I gave it a 50/50 that we’d see a separate head offered to owners of the original full set. If they do follow through it’ll be a whole new level of company commitment to customers.

They did for Aragorn, Morgul Lord, and the hobbits. Asmus comes through. Yeah, i've been waiting forever for my promised replacement Gandalf the White stuff but the fact that they have come through so many other times I can' t really fault them for just one. No other company in the game pursues customer satisfaction like Asmus and that's why they will continue to get my money.

Don?t get me wrong...Asmus is an amazing company but this Crown Gandalf head sculpt is really something that has never been attempted on a non-custom figure before.
Could anyone really blame them for announcing that they have fulfilled their figure orders and no longer have the bandwidth to release a line of just heads.
I don?t have a crystal ball but I think that it would be understandable if they had to back pedal on that one.
It?s not like they have had it up for preorder or anything...it?s really just been chatter on this forum and it?s not like they did not give people the opportunity to own the head...with the rest of the figure of course...

Yeah, that's my thinking on it too. How many people with the original will realistically shell out for a sculpt upgrade? If you've bought the original does that automatically make you such a 1/6 fan that you'd be keeping up to speed on this? Commercially it'd seem like a sure bet when you look at it like the nerdy collectors we are... but it's hard to say what % of their customer base are nerdy enough to make it worth their while (and what the pricepoint would be).

I'd guess they'd have to price it at around half the MSRP of the full set?

Please don't worry,
we will prepare at this a few hundreds heads for purchase.
it will happen, can't tell you how long, but likely to be early next year.

There we go. Thanks Asmus. This is how communication works ! What a great company !! :clap:clap

If only Hot Toys could communicate like this from time to time....

Totally! It?s amazing how far just a little bit of info goes. I hope that if Asmus becomes one of the leading 1/6 companies, they won?t lose this aspect.

This figure will be amazing and I can’t wait to get my order. As for the hat: in the film they use wool from Stansborough Grey sheep on the prop hat. I think it’s more grey than blue (the book says it’s blue if I remember) But in some scenes it certainly looks blue. I think Asmus will go with matching that one. Will the crown gtg have his ring?

Amazing, so glad this is still happening. I have ordered the Crown Gandalf for my LOTR: FOTR display, but really want to replace the head on my first version with this new head for my representation of GTG from The Hobbit! :yess:
