In news that is sure not to surprise anyone, JJ confirms that there is more to Rey's parentage, undoing more of Ep8's decisions:

I will say that we knew, going into this, that this movie, it had to be a satisfying conclusion. And we were well aware that that’s one of the things that’s been out there. I don’t want to say that what happens in Episode 8 [didn’t happen]. We have honored that. But I will say that there’s more to the story than you’ve seen.

As we all predicted either Kylo will be made out to be a liar or he just didn't know the whole story.

We all knew from day ONE that the ST was going to be a trilogy NOT TFA plus one sequel

Rian Johnson didn't want to answer any of the questions brought up in FA because he didn't know or care.

All that matters is whether they stick the landing. If TROS presents everything as an organic and cohesive whole then it really won't matter how they got there.

They’re furious that they’re changing it in the middle of the trilogy even though it’s not done yet

They’re saying that they alienated half the fan base and now they’re gonna alienate them too. (Daisy saying no Reylo and some of the teaser stuff didn’t help either, though the reaction wasn’t as much)

This excerpt from the article is a quote from Kathleen Kennedy (the bold font is my own for emphasis):

No, because at that point we were sitting down and talking about where this might go, even as early on as with Michael Arndt. We were sort of plotting out, because obviously if you know up front that you’re building the pacing inside a trilogy structure, we needed to have some sense of where this saga was going without locking in on things and leaving room for creative development. But we had to have some sense of where we were going.

When Rian who I admire enormously and adore, came on board, we met and talked with him about all the things we were working on and playing with, and he as a spectacular writer and director has taken those things and has written an AMAZING script that I think will be an incredible next chapter, some of which incorporating things we were thinking of and other things are things we could never of dreamed of.

To sum it up: LFL, and the story group there, had a general direction they wanted this trilogy to go. They gave JJ and RJ freedom to construct their own stories, but the story group worked with both to ensure that the main vision (no matter how much it wasn't set in stone) would be a cohesive one. Firing the original writer/director of Ep9 before TLJ even came out probably means that he wasn't taking the last film in the direction it was supposed to go. He was fired. JJ was brought back. Now they're ending it with the same guy they started it with because he understood where the general story was going since the beginning.

Fans can accuse LFL of whatever buffoonery they want, but what was going on all along was having a sense of how this story would all transpire over *THREE* films, but still letting creative people do what they do best: be creative. They build on each other's work, but there's always a story group in place to shape and guide where it all ends up.
