If I'm not mistaken, Jabba's dais in the palace and on the sail barge were different. The one on the barge was more pillow like. Artoo didn't appear with the drink dispensor until the barge, so technically you don't need the Sideshow figure if you're going for an environment-accurate display.

That’s certainly true. Still, the drink serving R2 is what we associate with Jabba, and I usually don’t mind fudging a little bit, like displaying both Oola and Leia with my Gentle Giant setup, because it seems like a waste to only choose one.

Similarly I will sometimes have slave Leia and Boushh on display at the same time. Film accuracy aside sometimes to show more favorites off.

Yeah, every Jabba dio needs a Leia Boussh, a cloaked Luke Jedi and a R2 drinks tray - yet none of those things occur in the same Jabba scene.

Maybe they didn't on film, but in every kids imagination and playsets growing up they did. And as well all know, back then we got more star wars that way than we ever got through the actual films.

True yes, forgot that I also include Luke, and Chewie, with Han still in Carbonite. Han in Carbonite is a big one with me, that and Anakin reveal Vaders from Jedi, just really like those thing, real stand out parts of Star Wars for me. Really hated having to sell off the Sideshow wall, but needed funds, may try to get it back in the future.

Hmm, I considered picking up a Boushh recently but thought it looked a little cheap and Hasbro-ish up close... but I gotta say in your display the figure is looking really damn good! I might have to pick one up after all (since that's the one Leia figure I still don't see HT ever making).

I'm hopeful they do with a Leia reveal head.

Same. I'm a little apprehensive with Sideshow Bib too but some folks here have made him look a lot better than stock. I do think HT will make a Boushh eventually because it's Leia and they can put a reasonably high price on her and she will still sell. I have serious doubts we will see updated Bib, Gamorrean Guards, etc.

Yeah, originally I was content with the Hasbro Bib Fortuna on display with my Sideshow Jabba. Ended up saying what the hell years ago and got one for $60. So much of an improvement. Now it's a whole new era, and Bib looks a bit ridiculous..like a kids toy. Same with SS Fett & The Emperor. Amazing stuff; thought I'd be fine with them..until HT put theirs out in modern style.

With Bib, I just stare at those lifeless, taxidermied looking eyes..with the light reflection dots painted on and shiny plastic looking skin; thinking: Man, this could look a million times better if it was made now.

I agree that Bib can be improved, but for the price (I remember paying $19.77 new in box on eBay many years ago!) he's pretty good. And I think he still looks decent with the old Jabba setup.

I can agree with that, but they're being transplanted to the new Jabba; then it starts to look more out of place. And congrats on getting them for so freakin' cheap. Being such a major fan of Jabba since seeing them back in '83..I might just keep the old set to.

So for new Jabba, have Bib and the faning Jawa..then old Jabba can have 3PO and one of those 3rd party slave Leia figures. But then I'd have to get the HT 3PO when it comes out to stand next to R2 in my A New Hope set-up. Ahhh..decisions decisions.

With anyone thinking HT might produce a Jabba one day; do you think it'll have all the swap out features of the SS one? I hope to god they never make one..I really don't want to have to buy this guy a 3rd time.

Besides the arms being a bit too large and the belly not as robust..it would've been nice if they could've somehow made the arms poseable to some degree; like with how Salacious heads being articulated with the magnets. Or having the pointing arm facing forward instead of to the right. Going to see if I'll be able to finagle the chalice in one of their hands. Probably have to use some sticky-tac.

Oh, and does anyone plan on making a larger rug, something similar to the original? That new brown one just looks way too small. It definitely looks more movie accurate, but I like the larger one. And it'd be awesome if someone producing a nice cardstock backdrop for this figure (if one hasn't already been created for you to print yourself perhaps).

I think if this sells well, seems to be, HT will make one. I could see them making it poseable like Hulk is, at least arms. PERS would be great too.

If SSC doesn’t come out with a new Bib soon (they probably won’t) then I think we should get some custom robes made. Would make all the difference.
Edit: I’m starting to really like my Bib. If he just had a custom robe in thin velvet - that would be awesome.

I used to think they would but I don't think they will anymore. HT is staying away from anything huge these days. They would probably use some type of Hulk like rubber which is a potential nightmare with Jabba. Probably no switch out parts on a HT Jabba either.

I love the palace scenes in ROTJ but I could never pull the trigger on the old Jabba because it just looks dated. This new one is a pleasant surprise from Sideshow. They actually built it from the ground up instead of their now common re-release cash grab and made vast improvements over the original. Sometimes it's best to wait for the Hot Toys, but I don't think so in this case.

Seeing that Sideshow are forever playing catch up with their production human sculpts, and never actually catching up, they should stick to what they're actually good at: statues and anything that doesn't have to look like a natural human face.

Of all my Sideshow figures there are only two human sculpts that I really like: Dengar and Snake Plissken. The former is partly concealed by bandages and scars, and the latter has an eye patch. Continuing that theme I like their V2 Darth Maul and Freddy Krueger - the former doesn't rely on natural human skin tone, and the latter has his skin burnt off.

Sideshow usually wins with their tailoring. Their Jedi Luke was shaping up to be a Hot Toys beater in that regard, until the overly tall and wide collar appeared on the production figure and ruined even that.

Their V2 Jabba on the other hand is garnering almost universal praise. They must realise that, and ought to be playing to their strengths rather than trying and failing where other companies routinely succeed.

Yeah early shots of that Luke are pretty bad, but not surprising. I don't know how many sub par human sculpts Sideshow has to produce to prove to some folks that they just are not up to that challenge. Hope to see them producing more palace creeps and aliens/creatures in the near future.

I suppose the problem is the human hero characters probably sell the best but as you said, best play to your strengths.

I do think a slight ball joint socket would have been a great way to get a little more range of movement in the arms. However with the whole thing being cast in resin, I can see why they did not do this (paint wear, etc.)

If Hot Toys were ever to make a Jabba, I could see alternate hands and articulated swivel wrists being easily hidden. I don't know how you could improve the dais, besides adding a light for the snack bowl. I do still wonder if they'll make him someday? Knowing Hot Toys, what would be even worse is them showcasing an amazing Jabba proto that never sees a release.

I'm hoping for a backdrop too! I still haven't found any quality pictures to work off of, not sure anyone else has had any luck.

Regarding the faux leather hide that was included, I did make a new one, using real top grain leather that I have a ton of scraps of. Here's a comparison.

I think it looks better. I could cut a larger leather piece similar to the first Jabba. PM me if you're interested.
