Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

It was tense... but I wouldn't have called it exciting. :(

The most exciting part for me was when Dumbledore takes out all the zombies.

Yup. One of the great scenes. Too bad the drinking scene was lackluster. The rest of the cave stuff was wonderful and hit all the right notes.

TO those who have seen it, is there a lot of blood in the sectumsempra scene? my kid brother wants to see this with me and he gets scared easily.

No. Just some bloody smears on his shirt which you don't see happen and it's fairly quick. It gets the point across without being gruesome. Draco's stuff is some of the most powerful and intense stuff in the film. The actor has a lot to carry with heavys like his dad and Voldemort missing and does an admirable job. Too bad Yates has him goofily stalking about in the background of several shots while the other kids make out. His "spying" on Ron and Lavender in the tower was just one of the unintentional laugh out loud moments during my screening.

LOVED IT!! 8.5/10 Ron Weasley is HAWT!

You surely must be kidding. Rupert Grint is so ugly. I wouldn't go so far as to say fugly or elephant man ugly but I definitely found it hilarious seeing Emma Watson pretend to get flustered by his goofy mug.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

I thought this movie was great. Best one so far....it had a good combination of everything. There were even moments when I laughed out loud...first time that's happened in a Potter movie. I thought Jim Broadbent was wonderful...and I agree with Bamboota...Ron is turning into a handsome lad. :) Overall, I was very pleased....and the things that were left out, I don't think hurt the movie at all. Looking forward to seeing it again at Imax.

NOOOOO!! I've always LOVED RON...in the BOOKS and in the MOVIES!! And he's in that age that he's just rippening. I'll totally tap that now that he's legal!!

Brilliant movie.
As usual I don't understand the complaints that are being latched onto on this board.
To each their own.

When Ron ate those chocolates and was all goo goo gaga....and at Slughorn's Christmas party when Potter was behind the curtain with Hermoine and then that kid puked on Snape's shoes. Jim Broadbent also cracked me up..the way he moved and some of his facial expressions were just hilarious. And when Harry took the Liquid Luck...then were lots of one-liners that I thought were funny. It was nice seeing Ron, Hermoine and Harry having fun and laughing...and trying to get a handle on their emotions. I thought they did all those scenes very well.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

I agree, many parts of the film were very funny... even though the tone was fairly dark, the use of humor (like people in real life do) helped to ease the tension.

The liquid luck scene, especially the first exchange with Slughorne was particularly funny :lol

One thing I would have liked as I think about it more is a few little explanations thrown in. For instance:

In the movie its not explained now Harry knows to use the Beozar (sp?) to cure Ron, or why Voldemort would choose the cave as a location for his Horcrux. Having read the books you know, but I think a simple statement on each would have helped the audience understand the story better. For instance Harry could have easily asked inside or outside of the cave why they were there, or in the hospital Hermione could have asked how Harry knew to use the beozar and he could have mentioned the book again, even in the book I think he justified keeping the potions book because it helped him save Ron.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

While I was dissapointed with all the stuff that was left out, I was very pleased with this movie. The Felix scenes were brilliant, and I was definetly surprised by the reappearance of Aragog. I would have liked to see some DADA scenes with Snape and Dobby and more Half-Blood Prince related stuff and the Funeral as well! I don't see how the funeral would have disrupted the movies tone at all. What did make it in was great and it was nice to FINALLY have Quidditch back. I liked the added scene but my only question is where are Bill and Fleur going to get married now?

One thing I didn't like was that they never mentioned who Tonks was. I knew because I read the book but for people who were just fans of the film and never read the books they would never realize, she didn't have the same hair, no explanation, no mention, nothing. I remember hearing a girl behind say "Who is that other witch?"

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Yes but she was pink haired Tonks and there wasn't a lot explained. Her look in this film was very different than her appearance here and looking at her it would be easy to miss.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

that is pretty different. man its hard to make a perfect film from a book just too much stuff to reference.

Well that and no mention of her being depressed, the relationship with Lupin, etc.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Which will make one of the real serious events in TDH feel out of nowhere for casual fans.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

I believe the wedding of Bill/Fleur will be replaced by Tonks/Lupin. They did have Tonks call Lupin "Sweetheart" in the Burrow scene but that was about it. They will figure out some way to make it work...they always do...lol

Plus Lupin and Tonks have some serious stuff happen in DH and not just the end.

Yep and yep... guess there will have to be a quick catch-up explanation, unless they just abandon all of that in the 7th film (which would be lame).

If they completely take it out I will be mad...it is quite important to the story line!

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

The Tonks Lupin relationship is hinted at in the movie, she calls him Sweetheart when they're on the front porch. It's one of those things...too much information, not enough time. One thing to keep in mind is that they have twice as much time for exposition and character moments between the two parts of Deathly Hallows.
I can't put myself in the shoes of a non-reader but I liked that Tonks looked more subdued and adult. Her relationship with Lupin was one of the few things that seemed forced in the books (IMO). She needed to look more grown-up to match his haggard appearance.

You know, I had the same idea when I was talking to my wife. That would be a substantial change from the book, but taking into account the limited screen time and the needs to make Lupin & Tonks' fate carry any weight, along with the lack of Bill and Fleur so far, this solution would make sense in the movie world.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

The Tonks/Lupin relationship is hinted in the movie only if you can recognize that its Tonks. :lol

For the casual fan its just some chick there.
