Hello Everyone,

I would like some advise on creating parts for a custom knight's armor. I'm talking greaves, knee cop, cuisse, breastplate armor etc. What are the suitable materials to get the right look? Would thin sheet metal work?

This is a slow project so I don't mind taking my time.

I would appreciate any/all feedback.

Thanks!

I made one once, out of Fimo clay. Be prepared for a very long and difficult job!

Now, if re- using parts and customizing isn't an issue for you, I'd go with modifying one of these

I have several and they are rather accurate to late XV / early XVI century armory. Thin sheet metal is tricky it doesn't bend the way you want and welding it is often messy?

I agree about the sheet styrene. If time is no object, I would recommend sculpting each piece in a hardening clay of some sort like fimo, sculpy, or epoxy putty, then vacuforming styrene over the top. This will give you the most control of the design and at the same time keep the scale of material correct. You can either make or buy small vacuform machines.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I think I will try the sheet styrene method and see how it goes. I'm assuming once the styrene is cut and shaped to the desired look, I can use regular acrylics to paint the metal look? Thanks again.
