You can check it with my newly arrived subzero. Like i said on my last post, the difference is very small.

If I can source a spare Scorpion head, or someone crafting replacement masks, I'll dive in on these and repaint it. Subs is my favorite but for whatever I can't stand that mask they put on him
 
I don’t want to come off as confrontational, but when people find these figures to be “smaller” or “underscaled”...what metric are we basing this off of?

One habit I want to encourage other collectors to break is the constant overuse of using HT figures as some sort of “baseline” or “standard” for other 1/6 scale figures to measure up to. It’s completely unnecessary, especially when you consider that HT themselves aren’t even consistent with their own catalogue. I’ve said it before, but every 5 years to 10 years, their figures are getting bigger and bigger.

Everyone should compare figures within their own respective line.

IF another companies figure fits in perfectly with a group of figures from another company, great! But if they don’t, you shouldn’t let it phase you or let it be the deciding factor on whether to keep the figure or not because “oh it’s shorter than Cap America”. Think of it this way, “maybe Cap America is too tall.”

See, I can answer this easily. 1/6 means it is 1/6th scaled to a 1/1 human. Typically, that means a 6’ person would be a 12” tall figure at 1/6th scaling. If, say, Chris Evans as Cap is a 6’ person (he is) then his figure should stand around 12” (give or take boots; he’s at 12.6” here).

Now, Sub-Zero and Scorpion, based on the above photo, are around 29.5cm, or 11.6”. That comes out to being a 5’8” fella. That’s my height. But the two are canonically listed as 6’2”. They’re not just shorter than Cap; they’re half-a-foot off based on 1/6th scaling.

That will bother some people more than others. Does it bother me? Yes. I want a proper 1/6 scale figure. They aren’t. But I also am not bothered enough to the point I won’t be glad to have them on my shelf.

Between some ankle extensions and some fighting style posing, I doubt they would look much out of place in most displays. The biggest question is whether any 1/6 parts are compatable with these or if they are completely unique to Storm.

And that’s the spirit I wish everyone had.

As for your other points; you’re not technically wrong. I’m just not the type to obsess over centimeters or millimeters and needing to make sure if a literally shrunken down Chris Evans would meet the exact measurement on the ruler. I used to care about height accuracy and then threw that out the window when they started pulling off egregious **** like in the pic posted above where Ryan Reynolds DP is way shorter than Evans’ Cap. Or when MOS Superman makes Baleman look like robin in a bat suit.

Again, not here for confrontation. As long as the height of sub and hanzo doesn’t affect your enjoyment of the figures, that’s all that matters, because they’re dope figures. I just find it worrisome when others do let it affect them to the point where they won’t buy it “because its shorter than my HT collection”.

Feudal Japanese men were likely nowhere near 6’ 2” so Hanzo would have been freakishly tall back then. Unless the Netherrealm upped his size. 5’ something would be more realistic I would think. I even marvel how tiny WWII uniforms look in museums (for any side). We’re certainly bigger as a people in modern times than even in the recent past.

As much **** I gave HT for being inconsistent, Storm are just as guilty of it as well. The 1.0 of the MK ninja 1/12 scale are smaller when compared to the 2.0/MK3 versions...

Anyways...

I agree with your take on the heights...I guess the magic number of 6’+ makes them seem more...heroic? Manly? Dangerous? Who knows lol

It’s only one movie that actually has them from the feudal era. They’re from the modern age in the games. Sub-Zero is also half-American on his mother’s side.

It’s not the biggest deal, and won’t be noticeable if I keep them all to their own display.

Wow I had no idea SUBZERO and SCORPION that shoot ice and fire from their hands, were real historical figures that were carefully and thoughtfully designed in a warehouse with scraps of quilted fabric and moto pads in 1989 with only the upmost eye for cultural accuracy, lol geez


Anyway body proportions are always skewed in fiction and art. Actual people rarely inhabit the proportions used in "heroic" forms. More heads, more ideal, and that is often is reflected in height though longer legs and bigger chest

Practically, come on why make excuses for another company cheaping out on bodies again and forcing either mods or to keep a segregated shelf so your $250 figures don't look distractingly undersized compared to all the rest.

Or just convince yourself you have an accurate BTS Daniel Pesina figure

Like i said in my last post, the difference exist but it doesn’t bother me. Yesterday Scorpion was near Haohmaru of tunshi studios (a bit oversized 1/6 figure) on my vitrine and although the difference was bigger it still didn't bother me, this figure is just amazing.

The question would be now if they will launch more classic ninjas from MK11, the choice of noob saibot with scorpion and subzero its not a strange choice, those 3 were the only ones who had a classic ninja skin on MK11.

I do wonder if Storm is limited to the klassic designs, or could they pull from more of the 3D era and modern era for designs.

Reptile gets the shaft in recent games, but I still remember how insanely hyped my brother and I were when we discovered and fought him in MK1. It was a big deal, and I associate him as an important founding ninja of the series right alongside the Fire and Ice duo.

Same here. The og Ninja costume Reptile just hits all of my notalgia strings. I didn't think it could get better than the Storm 6" figure from a few years back but a 12" one like this will be as good as I'll ever need it to get.

I know I keep harping on it, and I promise I’ll live with it, but I just wish Storm made their 1/6 figure bigger. Hiroyuki Sanada is 5’7”. Pop made him a tad oversized, but it’s still off seeing Storm’s version so much shorter. Even keeping them to an “MK shelf” like I planned, I think they’re too out of scale with each other. No idea if ankle extenders will be compatible with the Storm bodies. I’d be interested to get confirmation on that.

THAT SAID, it’s great seeing classic and modern versions of MK characters released at the same time in this scale. MK fans eating good lately.

Well, if the height difference does irk you, ankle extensions wouldn’t hurt. Or you can do what I intend to:

Putting them in dynamic poses can mask the height difference. Good thing the Storm outfits aren’t made of rubber or silicon (except for the belt) so you can keep them in extreme poses without worrying about the outfit =)
Another good thing is, they maybe shorter, at least the bodies are the right size so you wouldn’t feel it’s completely “out of scale”.
