It sorta feels like denial on SSC's side. They rather believe that custom statues are taking away from their sales. Instead of believing that they should make their statues more compelling. They try to shut down custom statues rather than fix their art direction ... Or their QC problem for that matter.

And in my opinion, art direction includes character selection, pose selection, costume selection, option selections, etc.

Maybe so.

For awhile now they have been more of an Arthouse that wants to show the world their 'talent' rather than just a producer of pieces for their customers. It's my guess that outside of their current facesculpt, it's only those hardcore comic book fans who require accuracy to the source material for the characters costumes that are unhappy with Sideshow, and as much as we may dislike their current line of pieces they will probably still sell.

But then again, it's not like they are doing anything they're not legally allowed to do. They probably spent a lot of money to get the rights to produce these licenced pieces. Why should they permit other 'businesses' to do the same without said licence. They might anger part of the community and their respective customers but I'm guessing it probably represents a fairly small percentage of their overall sales.

The price they charge is more than justified. if say Rainman makes a Jack Burton, it’ll look like a miniaturized Jack Burton. Not what Sideshow just attempted for $250

I disagree when you think about customs don’t have to pay license fee’s they are kinda charging a little too much when you see certain pieces being sold for over 2k. But overall the quality on a lot of them are there. But not all of them are of equal quality right?

Anyway that debate came and went. I’m more for customs than against them. They tend to offer the goods sideshow are not willing to touch. We’re are seeing some amazing pieces of late and none of them are licensed

If they’re worried about licensed stuff not selling, they should make better stuff

I can't argue with that.. But SSC pays for a license so I assume they want that license protected.

Personally I agree with others have said.. If SSC does not like this then they should make better products and listen to fans input about the products they do make ala XM... It would improve their sales and then they would not have to worry about custom makers.. Of course I don't think they have to worry about it anyways.

Well they best worry! XM are completely outdoing them right about now. So many announcements and even more to come it’s mind boggling really. Hell even Iron Studios are doing great things also. Prime 1 etc

The funny part if, if Sideshow would’ve pushed the no bootlegs years ago, they could’ve crushed XM when it resurfaced. But Sideshow did nothing

Why do they have to worry about xm at all. Xm art direction is not good and doesn't seem to have improved much. They have shown things from 1-2 years back that have been printed but not painted yet. You can rave all you want about their qc and packaging but if the initial idea and sculpt aren't great the paint and box quality doesn't matter.

XM > SS. Not really close IMO.

I agree.

Even though I will probably never own an XM piece, even I have to agree that more often than not, XM pieces are superior pretty much across the board in comparison to Sideshow. From their bases, detail, sculpts, and display options I just can't see Sideshow being superior. And at least XM doesn't false advertise their prototypes as being what you're going to get when you preorder a piece. That has always rubbed me the wrong way, and Sideshow really should follow Prime 1 and XM's? practice of having their factories produce their prototype show pieces.

Though I will admit that some of XM's female pieces have been quite lacklustre like the Elektra, and until recently Sideshows female face and body sculpts have usually been at least equal if not better then XM.

However this Wolverine PF looks to be superior to XM's original yellow Wolverine. But their Weapon X and 'maybe' their brown Wolverine will probably take the crown for best Wolverine for the next few years.

The pros of Sideshow pieces, is that they have a worldwide licence; are relatively easy to source, and are cheaper.

And even if you don't always like XM arts direction, Sideshows current art direction has been receiving quite a bit of negative critiques, some of which I tend to agree with.

Some stuff ss is better , some xm looks better. And some p1 wins. That settles it :)

No they don’t really have to worry that’s just an exaggeration of the current times. I’ve always owned sideshow pieces. But sorry to say it XM is superior at this point in time and they have improved drastically over the last 2 years. Their recent releases Weapon X proves this. It’s a flawless piece, That was executed really well. They are 100% bringing their A game this year. I’m so looking forward to my next hit Hulkbuster and Scorpion

Not sure how this turned into a "hate on SS" thread but I'm counting down the days on getting my shipping email on this guy. I just cleared a spot for him in my office and can't wait to show him off.

I don't believe any of the posts were expressing any sort of hate on Sideshow pieces. Simply opinions on our preference on which company was doing better overall.

I also can't wait to get this Wolverine piece in hand. Though honestly I haven't placed any preorders for any Sideshow products since. Most have been for Prime 1 pieces, as there is only so much space to go around.
