You will.

Oh no, I have. Both of my DX purchases (DX07 and DX12) were off the secondary market when I knew both were over retail, but I wanted a Bespin Luke and a TDK Batman in my collection. I haven't purchased many off the secondary market though lately when I know it's over retail.

That happens too. Might happen to me on Ripley and Jyn Erso.

But I played this game on Yoda and got one new for $153...

Yoda was sort of a quandary for me, another one of those grey areas. I for sure wanted him, but at the same time, his retail price seemed a bit steep for such a small figure. Luckily, I had some RP to burn, so I just applied them to him. Plus, I essentially just traded Avengers Captain America for him (sold him and put the funds towards Yoda).

I've been strongly tempted on Ripley myself. I have $80 in reward points with her name on them if she lasts into early next year (spent waaay to much lately, need a break).

See, she's one that I know they didn't make too many but I also know there's not too many people willing to drop $230 on her. I think most people who wanted her now have her and I'm seeing the price begin to dip. One sold last week for $183 (forget what shipping was). I think I'm pretty safe on getting her for $30-$50 below retail.

Oh, I see. Yeah, I never buy off ebay if its over retail... only shop there for less than retail. But almost 99% of HT figures now -- being over $230 in general -- can be had on ebay for less a few months after release. Without fail. Very few figures don't dip a bit in the first 3-4 months of release when they are widely available. After that, the figure either creeps upward if the edition size is small (i.e. Death Trooper deluxe) or the price continues to dive (i.e. every TFA figure).

So it's "Thrifty" Wor Gar now is it ? :)

No but seriously, im the same. I decided to get a few Avenger pieces and finding them on the open market now is difficult. But patience is key and I managed to snag Hulk and Banner 2 Pack for over 30% off retail. As well as Iron Man.

So I use pretty much the same strategy as Silverstar when possible. Ever since I made my list of figures I have and want, as well as knowing clearly how I want to display them (which also rationalizes the space available) it's pretty easy to decide yes or no for a figure.

I've got close to 40 of them now and am also pretty close to having all I want. Sure there will be more temptation, however for now I consider these to be close to my ultimate collection.

I just need to get my custom displays finalised. Then I'll have some pics.

That's a pretty good assessment on it, just a matter of time then.

Thrifty because I have no self-control and have too many figures. Like 200... and I can only display like 40 at a time. :lol

I really need to sell all those old Sideshow figures and thin the herd.

Yes I can imagine that tends to make a person thrifty. [emoji23] I have a bad conscious with 40-50 of them !

Probably more than half my "collection" is old Sideshow 'junk', upgraded 'doubles', or customs that I made that have been replaced by "authentic" versions. So my 200 has a lot of repeats and junk.

I could probably sell 140 figures and I wouldn't miss them.

I'm in the same boat, tons of old figures I'm willing to part with but trying to find someone that wants them and that I'll at least get something for them seems daunting. Sometimes I feel like calling up TA and asking what'll they give me for the lot. :lol

Yep, don't I know it.

I should at least unload my PT Sideshow junk to the many PT fans here before HT makes all that stuff too.

A friend of mine (also on this board) sells his stuff all the time and gets good money too. I really need to do that.

In box? Most of my boxes were tossed.

I moved a year ago so up until then I had all the boxes. I still have the artwork boxes folded flat, but tossed all the clear trays away. So best I can get is loose/no box prices. It would probably cost as much to ship the art box as I'd get for it.

I kept most of the HT boxes intact, all of the DXs.

In the 90's we had a ton of local sellers and collectibles shops that I could have unloaded all this stuff easy, but eBay killed that business.

One man's junk is another man's treasure.

Am sure you'll get something for them. Especially here on the sales boards, which is of course a concentrated 1/6 collector audience.

Like you say, better to get them up before they get updated by HT.

For the reasons you guys are talking about I've really started to watch what I buy and am TYRING to keep it simple, not jumping on every release. I don't need a bunch of Iron Man figures and only have the HB and MK 43 to represent that character. One Captain America...one Stormtrooper (Sandie)...etc. I DID add a Jyn to my collection to go with K2, even though I'm not a fan of the sculpt, and recently purchased a Chirrut with the hopes of a Baze release. Cassian...I'd also like a Cassian to round out the R1 collection. The last thing I want is a bunch of "junk" to lose interest in and have to find a way to sell or store. I think the next figure I have coming down the pike is Hoth Leia, even though I have ANH Leia...different iconic looks.

I DO miss not getting the Snowspeeder Luke...that one sold out way too quick.

Damn, you could sell 140 figures? That's more than I have in my entire collection, which I think is about 80. All are on display.

If there's a figure that I can't display anymore because of room after getting new figures, I sell it. If it got the big ugly ax from being displayed, then I figure that just means I could live without it.

I learned long ago that I can usually find 9 out of 10 figures for less than retail if I just show some patience. Many times, it's a matter of waiting a couple of years! That's how I completed my Terminator collection and my Dark Knight collection.

But as Wor-Gar mentioned, you risk either losing out or having to pay a premium price on that 1 out of 10 figure that shoots up in value.

My most wanted figure right now is Tarkin and I have yet to pre-order him. I'll wait until he's closer to shipping to see if I need to throw some RPs at it and pick him up or play the waiting game.

Edit: But I am guilty of placing a few pre-orders, regardless. (Ripley, the Asmus LOTR line, just to name a few.)

Totally agree. I started late in this game and had to find used Luke, Leia, Ben etc from the OT Star Wars line a year or so ago. At first I thought I will need to pay top dollar to get them but in the end I generally paid less than retail. Just have to be patient and persistent to find what you want.

Thankfully I'm getting close to my planned ideal collection. But let's see how that goes :) am sure there will be a new movie which will tempt me.

It's these Star Wars anthology movies which will tempt me most I think.

Ahoy!
