I just watched a video on IGN with Lucy, the lady who did the review, and some other guy and they were talking about the polarizing reviews strewn across the gaming media. Both call the story schetzafrenic and say the dialog was "cringe worthy" at times.

Seriously, can someone give me ONE example of the dialog being "cringe worthy"? Because I seriously don't get it...

Edited: they said cringe worthy, not atrocious.

All of the dialog at the party, none of those kids are real people.

Doesn't make any sense at the party if you kiss the boy and then he turns around and locks you in the crawl space.

the kids at the party are just a bunch of retards, there is nothing really unnatural about their behaviour imho

EXACTLY!!!! If we're going to say that chapter had cringe worthy dialog, well then guess what.... kids often say cringe worthy things in real life.

I dare anybody to give me a good example outside that one chapter. Where's the cringe worthy dialog throughout the rest of the game?!

its weird, but everyone seemed to love Heavy Rain, yet have a lot of complaints with this one. Personally, feel this is a huge step up in quality, but I guess people's expections have changed dramatically

Couldn't disagree more. I hear kids talk stupid like that all the time. Worse even!

It wasn't necessarily what was happening that was bad, having kids bully other kids is something that happens all the time. The dialog didn't progress in a natural way, probably due to how it's a video game and couldn't be too slow or people would get bored.

Another example was the snowball fight--the kid was being choked by an invisible force and goes "you guys saw that right?" and then calls her a witch. That makes no sense at all, adults might react that way, but ultimately I don't think people would react with "she's a witch!"

The dinner conversation with Ryan was also pretty laughable, very awkward.

Acting and the storytelling was superior to Heavy Rain although I love HR dearly since the choices truly affected the game's path.

I didn't hear anything in the dinner conversation that was awkward. Sounded 100% like a date to me.

As far as the party I think it depended on the choices you made that caused the unnatural progression.

I agree they should have changed some of the things said depending on choices they gave you. The choices I made my first playthrough actually made the party scene flow very well. Example: if you showed of your powers the host would say afterwords "okay,it's time for cake and presents"

Even though it could be argued that all of a sudden the attention wasn't on her so she made it on her. I didn't't show off the first time so the progression was basically flawless.

As for the snow scene yeah I was like, wait, how did he know that I did that to him?. But again, I guess it could be argued that he was shoving snow in her face and he was right next to her, then he got this sensation of being strangled, so he associated that trauma with her. Hence him calling her a witch.

Every scene you've mentioned had to do with kids. I don't see ANY dialog problems with the rest of the game when it comes to the adult actors.

Again, I find the jab at dialog Lucy made off base and without much merit.

Also the "schetzafrenic" plot was actually explained at the end of the game. She (jodie) actually explains why the scenes (memories) are not in order. Either she (Lucy) choose the beyond ending or didn't pay attention.

Or she did pay attention and Doesn't care why they did that, she just didn't like it...
I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on that one.

As far as not having it in order, it's not really important for the most part, a lot of stuff that's split up wouldn't change the perception of the story otherwise. And some scenes are really unnecessary. Like the whole part about her sneaking out and going to the bar didn't add anything at all.
And since most of the dialog happens when she's a kid it makes sense that most of the bad dialog is during those parts. The adult parts have more action than dialog.

Why do you say some scenes weren't necessary? The scene were she goes to the bar was all about showing how she was different than other kids her age, and she COULDN'T just have an normal life.

She goes out wanting to be like everybody else and:
Spoiler Spoiler:
That's big to her development and if you successfully make it out to the bar she won't
Spoiler Spoiler:

The kid they got to do her character as a child was really good as well. So I still don't see your point...
