This definitely happened, but Prime 1's may still be a bit girthy. I actually think the width across the belly is fine, but the thickness from back-to-belly might be too great and that's what we're seeing in more angled photos.

Agree that it could be a little from column A and a little from B.

Going by the prime 1 trend I wouldn't be surprised by the time this is released, the thickness concern would be way down on the list and replaced with many others :D :D

There's more risk to statue buying these days, even at this price point. Will probably have to end up relying on my gut (no pun intended) for this one. If the production piece misses the mark, everyone's going to run like hell haha.

LOL on your 2nd point (and the "gut" pun).

However, where their recent 1:4 Jungle Hunter and City Hunter sculpts were amazing, and were (seemingly) let down by the paint, no amount of quality paintwork will make up for the dodgy torso on this.

I'm not sure EXACTLY what it is that's wrong with the torso (front-to-back, side-to-side, too short, whatever) - just that it's wrong.

Thank-goodness this isn't Twitter - we can "disagree" on things and still be civil!

Looks about right to me. Predator was a bit of a fatty lol. Out of those two images I prefer the untouched one. Maybe a little bit off? I dunno. R8cbe18f281bf87f54752b2e55929d0c3.jpg

I dunno man. Personally I just genuinely remember him being fatter than that mock up when I think of the movie. Definitely closer to the statue as it is. I always thought of the predator as bulk as opposed to muscle, especially with those big stupid feet lol. Its why I canceled the CM the night before it was due. How skinny it was. I regret that still though considering how much it ended up worth. I could have had it for ?999... urgh.

I have to agree with Ian on this one. Generally speaking, he seems like a 70's pill-popping Elvis version of the JH.

I wonder if he will have an accessory display like the 1:4 does with the victim. If not, I think I still prefer the 1:4 JH and victim for an overall piece...saying that in hopes I don't immediately get disappointed by the 1:4 JH when in-hand. lol

I think the "real" might be somewhere in the middle (no pun intended). Even though the original Sideshow SWS 1:4 maquette was supposedly scanned from the studio display suit, I always thought THAT was a bit on the skinny side.

The CM, even though it's stylised, has more of the correct "heft" but is still a little skinny round the waist (makes it too "V" shaped).

THIS though, deff. has that "chubby chops" thing goin' on round the entire torso.

You can look at most clear scenes from the movie and realise this needs a bit of liposuction.

I think Narin (and Shiraiwa Hayes) are the only 2 that get Pred anatomy pretty-much spot on.

Tbh if you watch the reveal. They digitally overlay the sculpt directly over the film photos. And it fits perfect.
I never thought I'd really step out of the Alien line. But this Predator has me wanting it.
However Prime1 announced DUNE last night with Blitzway. I'd absolutely commit to a Dune line.

Yeah - saw that.

But it means nothing overlaying a 2D image when you're creating a 3D version - it's a great way of starting, and I'd hope they did it from multiple angles - and if that's the technique they use then it helps explain why PRIME1 sculpts are (usually) so superior to other companies.

BUT - you have to have the artistry & talent to transform the dimensions into the sculpt, and although they've seemingly done a great job on everything else - they fell short (again - no pun intended) with this fellas torso.

Hey - maybe they're belly-button fetishists - I've heard of worse :)

Are you sure? Once you go pred it's hard to go back :D

If it turns out close to the prototype, like 85-90% plus, will be hard to find another predator at this scale and quality, so an easy decision to buy. But it's Prime 1, who knows what type of candy you gonna get. Their QC might even be worse in a few years time :(

The reality is it'll be a 2-3 year wait until we find answers. That seems to be the new norm for collectors and definitely not an enjoyable experience. Can drive even the most patient collector nuclear and give up altogether if things bomb out.

Worst case scenario this thing turns out good, sells out quick and fans miss out (like the CM). It'd be a nightmare to buy in the off market. Equally worse case is if it turns out sub par, cancel and lose a bit of money which is ok... but the 3 years wait and disappointment would sting big time.

I can understand why some collectors who dig the 1/4 are holding onto it. Makes sense as they can enjoy that for a few years until this one arrives and then decide whether to 'upgrade' based on the outcome of the production piece. Kind of like best of both worlds approach, would also make the wait easier as they have a pred piece to enjoy in the mean time while the rest of us going all in, sweating it out and praying Prime 1 doesn't bluff and actually deliver the goods LOL

I am pretty hyped for Dune, though. Will gladly return to the theaters for that one in October.

Still not sure what I'm going to do. Right now I'm thinking to ask Todd at Spec Fiction if I can pool my NRDs for the City Hunter and Big Chap onto the 1/3 Warrior Alien. As for the Big Game 1/4 at Secret Compass... I wonder if they'd let me transfer that NRD to the 1/3 Jungle Hunter, assuming it goes up for preorder before they get the Big Game in stock. If not, I guess I eat that one. Or I keep the order and sell it to someone once it's in-hand.

I'm not familiar with those stores and their policies but I don't see any reason why they can't do a one off transfer of NRD for the 1/4 JH to the 1/3. It would be like getting store credit for a change of mind, especially if the stock hasn't reach them yet. If you end up cancelling the 1/3 as well in a few years time then fair enough if they take the deposit as two cancellations would be too much for small companies lol.

Comes down to your love and where your heart is for the 1/4, most important thing is if you dig it, only your opinion counts and your search is over. It's your grail and no one else's opinion matters. I absolutely love my prime 1 endo, as some collectors here love it just as much as I do, equally there are quite a few who absolutely dislike that piece, it's one of the most bipolar statues, however in the end, I love it and that's what ultimately counts. If you don't like the 1/4 scale enough, then it may be good to contact the store and discuss the transfer/credit option. At this price point, gotta keep what you love and let go what you don't (unless money is not an issue haha).

I tried fo get sugo a few weeks ago to transfer my NRD to the Warrior DX (which is a few hundred more) and was told nope lmao. Ill try again once this comes out for PO, and if they say no ill just threaten taking my business elsewhere. Shouldn't be a problem as I believe itll be several hundred more, if not a thousand more youll make off me if I get the 1/3. I never get retailers

Damn that sucks. I hope popcultcha is getting this as there policies and NRD seem more consumer friendly, but it looks like they don't really stock much prime 1 stuff these days. Probably end up going with Sugo too, as there's no one else around. Fingers crossed both stores stock them, gives us more options.

It certainly was my grail. Now it feels like an expensive compromise and the only way to lift it back up to grail status would be to throw another $1K at it. That and its incompatibility to display with the Warrior (which was always my plan) makes it a pass at this point.

I'll envy anyone who repaints theirs from afar. Big Game provides a great foundation for a customizer, but it should've been much more than that.

Might offer to not only transfer my NRDs to the Warrior, but to pay off the remainder of its total as a sign of good faith. I'd rather be stuck with that piece as I still have uses for it.

I really like this, would be cool if the backpack and shoulder cannon were removable so we could recreate the final battle version of the Predator. That's a feature that you never really see in any of the statues and would be accurate to a lot of the promo photos they've used as reference as he doesn't wear it in those.

As far as the chunkiness goes, I'd rather a little more weight than not enough. I sold on my Sideshow JH for that reason, especially when compared to their CH, which I think has a decent amount of heft to it and more reminiscent of KPH in the suit. Can't wait to see the city hunter!

The mask and armour were scanned and are accurate to the movie. The rest was sculpted. I can't say I've noticed it looking particularly off in person, but it may be a little skinny if anything. It is still the bench mark for all Predator statues to this day which is surprising.

Good point about the removable shoulder cannon. Still might be the case though, unless it's cast as part of the shoulder along with the armor. Agree with ya, I like big butts and I cannot lie :)
