Love R2 with all of the arms extended. Makes for an excellent display.

The batteries set-up was a pain, especially the one for the little recharge tool. I had both batteries fly out when initially putting them in. Found one quickly but the other took some time, as the carpet monster wanted to keep it...

Couldn't get the dome's left panel to open up so I just stuck the arm onto it, for the time being...

Looks awesome. I just got mine in today. Haven?t had time to mess with the accessories but I love it. Never owned a 1/6 R2 so didn?t know what to expect. Much bigger than I expected.

Ultimate version of R2-D2.

Grab it NOW, while it's still at retail...or suffer the financial consequence later.

R2 arrived today. Shipper box was beat up. Figure box was dinged on one side. Fortunately, R2 appears fine. No paint over-spray on blue areas. Looking forward to when I can set him up with all of those accessory arms.

that is a seriously impressive amount of accessories......wow! Glad yours arrived in decent shape

Received my R2 yesterday from BBTS. Glad I ordered him right as he went to waitlist on SS since BBTS raised their price shortly after. Hope to open him up today, if not then this weekend. A nice distraction from current events.

Looking forward to comparing him in person to my SS deluxe R2.

Agreed! It is the ultimate version (aside from the bar tray) of R2. I'll be setting up the SS R2 with the bar tray.

Thanks, Matt! This is definitely one figure where the instruction sheet is required reading. Placement of all of the arms in the correct locations really makes a difference.

that does make sense! organized chaos in 1:6 form! Fantastic piece.

Finally got to open R2 last Sunday. I must say, wow. So I glad I ordered him. He is definitely an improvement over the SS version and worth the upgrade. Wasn't sure. Pictures don't really capture the level of detail and paint improvements. As well as heft and fit and finish.

I think I'll still keep my SS though. I'll finally put the drink tray to use. And the table is much nicer than the little light up disc HT included for the holo Leia.

Here's a phone pic comparison (w & w/o flash). Not the best

And a pic with the Sphero remote R2

**** crap.... upside again. So annoying

Sa?ll good. Just flipped my phone to view it lol.
Great comp shots. I was able to compare mine with my buddies SSC one. Needless to say he?s quite jealous.

My pics never do that, weird. Did I hear another board member say this: save the image using Paint program on Windows 10 prevents that? one of those type programs. Resized them in paint, and that does work.

Yeah, on my phone I do the most minor crop and save before uploading. Usually solves the problem, stupid phones.

Thanks for posting those, loki.

It's amazing how vast the difference in quality is between the Sideshow and HT versions. However, before when I only had the Sideshow version, I thought it was great and the only flaw was the plastic dome, which didn't look THAT bad anyway. But looking at them side by side, you really see the higher level of detail, color accuracy, and better overall proportions. I'm very glad I upgraded to Hot Toys' R2.

You maybe didn't get a prominent seam in yours.

Dat seam :slap

Congrats on the upgrade!

I got the ssc deluxe, as soon as I took it out of the box and held it I knew this wasn't the droid I was looking for.

This one is, ONLY nit is I wish it (film accurate blue paint apps) was glossy vs matte.

I still dig the Sideshow one...yes, that seam is unsightly, but it can be disguised on display with angles and lighting. One of the "up" qualities on the Sideshow one is the light scheme. I like that there are three distinct display settings on it. The one that the HT version is missing is really significant....the "holo" light is on all of the time. Distracting and hard for getting good shots. I also like the "gaskets" on the legs as opposed to the ratchet catches that the HT features. The gasket allows for more fluid positioning on the legs.

The only other issue with the HT vs SSC for me might be strictly my perception...the HT one seems a little oversized. It may be "correct" and I'm just accustomed to years of the SSC and Hasbro ones in my display.

Here is the HT with Leia...it does look good.

Yeah the ratchets on the HT R2 are a bit of a bummer. It ensures they are tighter (my SSC R2 has slightly loose ankles) but you lose subtlety of posing.

And yeah, the lighting omission does seem like an error in terms of the holo being on all the time.

Disagree on the size aspect though - aside from the crisp colors to me that's the biggest plus of this version.

Although I paired my HT Force Awakens R2 with my Sideshow 3PO, I'm glad I splurged on this guy for all the variety of scene specific attachments. He can liven up my Hoth shelf, or Prequel shelf or ROTJ shelf.
