"New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation have announced that it is working on an animated The Lord of the Ring feature focused on the history of Helm's Deep. It's called The War of the Rohirrim, and it will be directed by filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex).
WB Animation says that War of the Rohirrim is a standalone story, but will serve as a companion piece to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Story and artistic elements will link the animated film back to the original movies, and Philippa Boyens from the original screenwriting team will serve as a consultant on this film.
The press release also states that War of the Rohirrim is being fast-tracked for the big screen and that anime studio Sola Entertainment will provide the animation work. The voice casting is currently underway."
