AMOK IN TIME "TARMAN" RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD

Amok in Time released this figure quite a while back. I decided to start doing reviews of my figures, and "Tarman" seems like a good place to start.

The classic movie "Return of the Living Dead" came about due to a copyright squabble between the originators of the classic "Night Of the Living Dead" . Aside from the obvious similarities of the dead returning to life, the creators did not really have much to worry about. The two movies could not be more different.

ROTLD was the first "fast" zombie movie. The zombies craved brains only and the movie is dripping with humor. That's where the "Tarman" comes in. He is the first zombie we see, dripping with goo because his flesh melted when he was released from his Army sealed container. His first line, "BRAINS!!!! ( yup these zombies can talk) , set him up as a very memorable zombie.

THE SCULPT

There is alot to love about this 6 inch figure. The sculpt is spot on to the movie. We can almost hear the ooze drip from his body. The facial expression is very well captured from the initial meeting of this horror. We do have some unfortunately placed seams along his skull, although at this scale they are difficult to see. The bones along his back look fantastic, as does his rib cage. The detail haze a bit as we work our way down the figure, and by the time we get to his feet, the are barely more than vague shapes resembling feet. The hands suffer the same fate. One might argue that this is what "Tarman" would look like as his skin melted and gravity did its work.

ARTICULATION

Unfortunately there isn't much to say here, because there is none. This "figure" is essentially a mini statue, which is sad. I could think of alot of poses to do with this guy. The reality is that there is no choice for good articulation because any movement would destroy the drip effect , and make it look like physics took a holiday the day the dead rose from the grave.

PAINT

Overall the colors an paint scheme are beautiful. The eyes in particular are done very well, and thats important for this guy. Thats not to say its a perfect paint job, 6 inch figure rarely have perfect paints. On my figure they missed the teeth on one side , which again is not all that noticeable ( unless of course your doing macro photos.

EXTRAS

The Tarman comes with a wonderful base , straight from his debut scene. We have a great sculpt of "Suicides " bitten brain ( bet he regretted being first down those stairs) as well as the pipe Tarman was using to get at the lovely "Tiiiiiiiiiinnnnnaaaa" . We also see a glimpse of Tarman in his container in the back, which is neat but a little weird since he is obviously no longer in it???

OVERALL
8/10

You can still find this guy for about $30 at this time of posting, which is a bit high for this figure that's not a figure. He looks great on display however, and overall AMok in Time did a great job on it. In all likelihood this is the only "Tarman" figure we will ever see, so if your a fan grab it while you can!! He is a great character from a super 1980's horror film, and the figure does this awesome zombie justice.
