Yeah the price is very high.
Personally I’ll stick with my HCG.

Ok it’s not cast lineage ( it’s sculpted ) and not completely accurate in terms of texture and finish but the sculpt sweats 89 IMO and I paid it 550€ shipped.

I could have been on the fence to PO it if I hadn’t have already the HCG but that price…Yeah me too, I’ll keep an eye cause I’m curious how it will turn.

Personally, I’m convinced that the original prop wasn’t so textured on the face, skull and scallops. On the shoulders and collar yes.
And in the sculpt, I can’t completely read 89. But it’s my opinion.
Yeah no worries, it’s interesting, everyone got different feelings about it. ;)
But don’t get me wrong. It’s a beautiful cowl.
To my mind, the cardinal sin that so many of these companies have committed, be it Hot Toys, PureArts, NECA; what have you, is conflating finish with texture. It’s easy to see how you could think the rough, leather like scoring along the scallops of the cowl could be consistent throughout the design, but I think the reality of it is that much of what these companies see as texture is just the way light diffuses over the matte finish. Almost as though the chalky sheen is weathering and not just light.

Bravo!
you summed up the situation perfectly and the trap almost all the companies felt into.

If you want an accurate 89 cowl, there are two solutions IMO
Officially licensed: Denuo Novo
Fan made: Reevz Fx

But, this two are silicone. Maybe not as long lasting.
It’s maybe also more difficult to recreate the right « texture » on hard material like fiberglass or polystone rather than silicone or rubber.

Anyway the Purearts is a beautiful interpretation of the Burton Batman Era. Not completely accurate but a beautiful object on its own.

Looks super cool but makes me think a lot to Returns cowl over 89.
Definitely an hybrid IMO

Agreed. Why do a hybrid when the company could double their earnings and makes accuracy-seeking fans happy by doing both film's cowls? Anyway, already own two live-size Burton's Batman cowls, so a pass either way.

I’m almost certain that it is a marketing choice.

Even if the 89 suit/cowl will always have my preference and if when worn the 89 cowl is more organic and threatening IMO, it’s right to say that, strangely, alone, the returns cowl got a more menacing look.
So Pure arts certainly thought that they would have more success with a more menacing look…
Combine the legendary 89 franchise with the returns look and call it « cast lineage », That’s the purpose IMO.
99% of the buyers won’t see the trick…

For reference:
Original / Pure arts / De Nuevo

You can clearly see that the top of the head and eyes are oriented returns…

Rondesmo, where is the belt from?

The Belt is from Stacey Props on ETSY. He is known to make the most accurate 89 belt ( and Batarang) on the market.
Both have exactly the same mechanism that the original prop.

A few more images and videos appeared this few last days.
Contrary to what I thought it’s not a hard polystone but a new long lasting mix material which gets a soft effect very impressive.
With a better and natural light it appears 90% accurate IMO. Even if it’s still too sharpened, « idealized » and symmetric, it’s very good. I really like it.

Dc Comics Batman GIF by Max

Thanks for sharing those pics @Rondesmo :duff

I’d I were to have a 1:1 cowl, I think it would be the one. Even though I like a number of the cowls used in the different movies, this one just has a special place for me.

Ok received my Pure Arts 1:1 1989 cowl.

Last year I was very skeptical at first. When the first proto pics were shown, it appeared very symmetrical and sharpened but when the first convention pics arrived a few month ago showing it in natural light and this amazing soft mix material , I was really sold.
Sold my HCG cowl and a few items to finance it.

The packaging is really sweet and everything is beautifully wrapped.

In person the sculpt is truly great and absolutely sweats 89 IMO.
It is delivered with the Gotham city hall statue as stand and a display plaque.
The emblem is really well executed.
But the more interesting is without a doubt the texture of the cowl.
It’s very textured on the collar and not so much on the scallops and top like the original cowl.
I think they really nailed this.

I know there a several options from prop makers that are maybe even more accurate but I never liked the « droopy » effect of real urethane or latex cowl when displayed.

If you consider the fiasco of the Denuo Novo 89 cowl, I think this Pure Arts is the ultimate 89 cowl for a display purpose.

Now there is a big issue. The price. Even if I’m a huge fan of the movie and if this cowl is really impressive in person, it’s outrageously overpriced.
550-600$ would have been an acceptable price but I know it’s 10 years ago prices…
