There hasn't been a truly original Bond film since Dr. No. From Russia With Love and Goldfinger added to the lore and iconography, maybe perfected the formula, but the point is Bond hasn't been truly original in a long time. Same could be said about most franchises. Has any SW film been as original as the 1977 film? Nope. The best ones added some memorable moments here and there, but that's the best they can do. That's the good and the bad when something original becomes a franchise. The sequels must retain certain elements that make that brand unique even if it becomes repetitive like "poetry" but also offer a new "twist" or element to the familiar formula. Then again, it's those familiar components that make the brand unique. We want Bond films to have a certain type of theme, the gun barrel opening, the tuxedos, the martinis and catch phrases, even though we've seen it 26 times.

I am curious to see what Nolan's take is because he said he wanted to do something original that's never been done with the character, so I can't imagine what that could be and he won't say what it is because as he said that's his one and only selling point in order to get the job. Maybe it's something obvious. Maybe a full origin film like Batman Begins? That's the one thing that's never been done in 60 years.

Craig Bond went from getting his 007 status to being burnt out and retiring way too fast.

So what? Baleman was Batman for a weekend, retired, came back for another weekend and retired again. 🤭

Meanwhile Battfleck and Keaton are in their 50's and 70's still dressing like a rodent. They probably still have PTSD too. Pathetic.

Baleman is going full Bateman on Catwoma's booty while the other two sit on a cave. 💪😏

There’s been a bunch of Heat copycats, but none do it as good.

Still, as amazing of a movie Heat is, in my opinion Thief is his finest professional criminal movie. It not only introduced his theme of the professional man against time, it was his most complete vision of it (The 30 Second Rule).

I'll have to check it out. Not until a couple years ago, I had no idea that Manhunter featured Hannibal Lecktor first before The Silence of the Lambs. It's Lecter in Lambs. Lambs was a much better movie though.

His series arc really has been a hack job lol
Yeah they started doing the 'too old for this ***t' thing with Craig's Bond in Skyfall and he only became a 00 in Casino Royale. Quantum of Solace was set immediately after that. So were we supposed to interpret some big time-jump between QoS and Skyfall?

Wait this is the Dune thread :lol

I’m probably biased, but I prefer Manhunter over Red Dragon. Tom Noonan is menacing and underrated. Great score, but that’s a given for Mann flicks. The opening sequence of him moving thru the home is creepy and well done.

I prefer Manhunter. Hopkins was trying too hard to be creepy.
Yeah, I don’t necessarily dislike Hopkins but I think Cox made a “cooler” Lector, if that makes sense.

I have a nice special edition set of Manhunter with these extras that are made to resemble police reports and whatnot, it’s a neat set.

A little Mann trivia: Both William Petersen and Dennis Farina made their debut in Thief, and in Manhunter, they played Graham and Crawford respectively.
