So my Boromir arrived. Disappointed but not surprised. That might be the new tagline for Asmus Toys. I really wanted to support them, they learned, accepting inputs, and tried to do better. But for how long? How long until they are ready to give us a good product? At least not too far from prototype. In this case I am disappointed because they changed the chainmail to a fish scale pattern. They promised us that the figure in the promo pics is what we will get, because they don’t want people complained about the promo pic is different from the released product. But still, they did not deliver. I will show you how I replaced those fish scale.

This is the figure out of the box.

Something is off in this portrait, I don’t like those big ears. I think it’s better to have it covered by the hair.

The rubberlike chainmail I eventually bought for this figure. It’s not circled ring chain like Boromir used in the movie, but it’s close enough and better looking in my opinion.

Because the chainmail is a sleeve, you have to slip them on the arms, it made the arms a bit thicker, so the arm bracer doesn’t fit. I changed to a bigger one. Yep, it is from Sideshow Boromir. Here is the comparison. Left: Asmus, right: Sideshow.

The two part boots are lazily made. They didn’t even try to make the boots looked accurate and seamless looking cut. The upper part looks big and the lower boot “stitching” is covered by it. Looking like those Crazy Toys Batman and Superman boots. The better example would be Medicom with their Link figure. It has a similar boots design but the cut is better.

$200 and I still have to modify it. Most likely will make my own Boromir head sculpt, and hair it.

So glad I have the original haired release...this version is the first LOTR figure by Asmus (yes i'm a hoarder) i've skipped.
I don't mind double figures but there has to be an improvement, and i'm not seeing one here.

Yikes.

Appreciate your review. Wish Asmus put more effort into this. Really a shame.
Thanks for this good and fair review. :)
Thanks for the appreciation😆

Yeah I’m jumping on this figure because I missed out on the first release. But this V2 is such a downgrade. But for the head sculpt, I still don’t like both of them.

Hey, it could be worse, you could have sold off your original sculpted V1 because you were ready for the upgraded V2....

Missed out on the previous Asmus Boromir releases. Obviously jumped on the new one. Could it be better, yes. Am I happy with it standing in my collection, hell yes. I have Inart aragorn and gandalf PO'ed (and I have crown asmus gandalf already). I'll be honest, if inart made a Boromir I would upgrade, but I am happy with this.

This was easy money for Asmus, just improve the HS and retain the design and quality of all the other parts, job done. But they got lazy/greedy and now they'll pay for it with ppl skipping this release. To me that fish scale chainmail is unforgiveable and I'm sure there are a lot of collectors feeling the same way. Asmus' loss.

At this point, we just have to hope Asmus will throw some kind of surprise release out there like a new Eowyn or Elrond and make it Crown series quality, or they may as well abandon the line.

InArt might complete the Fellowship in time. I think the Harry Potter figure is showing them there's demand for "lines" with people who want the main trio and some professors. We know InArt will do Legolas and probably some hobbits. Feels like Boromir would be a natural fit for them at that rate.

But, it's almost a guarantee that they'll never get to characters like Eomer, Faramir, Eowyn, Galadriel, etc. Asmus can bridge the gap there, but they have to start showing people they're serious about quality immediately. Otherwise I think we're going to have to hope some other new startup can get the license and make figures somewhere between the quality of Asmus and InArt to refresh the collections.
