Ok, let's get to it.

This figure is getting modified quicker than anything else we've seen in a long time, maybe due in part to the availability of additional HT pieces. I'm sure this thread will be buzzing for a while.

These are pics of the inside of the hat. It shows what I had to trim to accommodate the HT head. I used blue tak to adhere the metal for the magnet.

I also cut the chin strap to tighten and re-glue it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1427735071.515450.jpg

I also swapped the body to a HT Luke slim and replied the left breast pocket piece to the outside.

Amazing work!

Is there a way of removing the original Luke head without doing quite so much cutting and glueing?

Awesome! Thanks for those shots, man. Hopefully I can start on mine tonight if my spare head came in today. :)

Yes. Just a simple boil and pop to remove the head but the cutting comes into play when you replace a sculpt. So if you wanted to display it like this you certainly could without cutting at all.

Wow, the head swap really made this figure look better.
Thanks for sharing.

What's the best way to get the headset off to do the antenna mod?

If anyone is interested here is the SS head with HT hair. I had to trim bits off the back and top of the portrait to fit it in. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1427741316.580056.jpg

The only serious mod I did on mine was to reshape the un-helmeted heads jawline. Like Superman the eye plate pushes out the jaw line a bit too much and to me it really threw off the likeness.

Step One: Disassemble the head... a few dips in near boiling water, pliers, a knife and some good old elbow grease will get the job done. Just be careful not to do any damage to the eye sockets, it's easy to teary them if you aren't careful.

-after a bit you should have this (the eye plate has already been shaved down in this image):

Step Two: Shave down the eye plate, I removed the bottom of the plate with a dremmel and essentially removed enough that there would be no plate in the bottom of the jaw, so roughly the revised plate ends just above the line between the bottom of the ears then reassemble the head.

Here's the same image twice; first as it looked when I was done, then with the removed area highlighted:

Third/Final Step: let the head rest in near boiling water for a minute, or until the face is nice and pliable. Then pull out the head, pinch in the jaws as much as you can and while holding jaw in place with your fingers submerge the head into icewater. You can repeat this a few times until you get a look and symmetry you like.

In the end I much preferred how the head looked:

A second, less intense mod was to swap the body over to a 1.0 Pro... everything is compatible and swaps easily. I also replaced the gloves with the Hot Toys DX Indiana Jones gloves. I prefer the Pro 1.0 over the HT slim because it's a bit shorter and has a stockier build and just seems to suit Luke a bit better. But either body works better than the 1.1 body he comes on.

The Indy gloves would need a repaint...

Very nice mods. I saw the jawline mod in the SS thread but wasn't sure how you achieved it. Thanks for sharing. It really does make that sculpt shine.

The head's fine (all 3 of them) - I can't imagine changing them.

I just want to know how people are fixing the rank badge and vest pocket.

I just pulled mine out and glued it t the outside of the jacket. Quick and dirty but I like it.

Agreed... it's a very solid release, but at least with the unhelmeted head you can get the jawline to look more accurate with a bit of work. I didn't see Hamill as strongly in the sculpt until after I did the mod... then bam, there he was.

Thanks. Can you get the head out of the helmet without cutting the helmet, or at least, only cutting through where it's glued in? I really, really hate cutting stuff, going back to doing customs on cheap figures, because I always end up cutting too much. I don't mind massacring the head, because I don't think the likeness is any good, but I'd like the helmet to remain unscathed.

What is the exact color acrylic to use to paint the sides of the helmet?

Yes. Very easy. Boil and pop. No problems. No cutting until you change the sculpt. Mine was glued pretty good so I had a hard time getting the face out of the hat top but eventually it came out unscathed. Both head and hat.
