Took a bit longer for me to organise this but I was labouring over what radio to shoot Wez in front of. I decided that I’d do this and all future figure shoots in front of a complimentary in design boombox, if possible. I have a very extensive collection of vintage boomboxes and wanted to incorporate them into my photography of other things I collect for a couple of years now so hopefully this adds a little more interesting composition to the shots; or at least offers something a bit different. The JVC RC-550 became my choice for Wez.

Onto the changes I made to my Wez from the top down.

  • Hair trimmed and reshaped. Extra hair poked in by hand then coloured more correctly with a brown base and red strip on top.

  • Bolt earring added with nut!

  • Body replaced with basic no-name model, rubber of the original body’s chest glued to the new one

  • Shoulder pads split at the top and then extended and refinished. Pin heads added for stud details and general weathering/dirt added. Feather boas made from scratch (recipe detailed in a previousl post)

  • Strapping removed from Wez’s left arm and added to the right arm, replicating where he’s wounded

  • Forearm mounted crosssbow scratchbuilt using various materials on top of the base piece from the original.

  • Crossbow bolts repainted correct colours.

  • General dust and weathering added to give some consistency across the body and armour pieces.

I’m very pleased with the final look of this figure, the base is great to begin with but the extra work makes it something special. It did end up being more work than I thought it would be but I’ve learned some new techniques with this project that I’m sure will be of value further down the line.

Working on Wez tonight. Trimmed and thinned down feathers, made leather shoulder pieces and foam under shoulder armour to build and bulk up. Waiting for new body, then assembly

Today I remake wrist crossbow. Continue refining shoulder areas. Rework vest…add pin studs and paint highlights more accurately on vest, pant, forearm, and shin armour…a great project to be sure. I will post progress photos later
