The only thing I was missing for two complete figures was the belt, holster and PPK.

I found the PPK with the correct style of holster (with the strap fastening to a pin on the flap) from the DiD/3R Kurt Student figure. It was being sold by a retailer on eBay that I'd forgotten about: CB Toys.

I used to look at their store years ago when I was collecting Dragon.

I'm okay for a brown belt. It didn't need to be exactly identical as I'll try to push it under the jacket the way Marseille wore it.
Excellent finds. I was thinking of just waiting until the main figure is broken down at the usual loose parts online shops.

CB Toy will be getting him in to break down, as he's shown on their front page as part of the 'New Items Coming Soon' section. They specialise in selling parts rather than full figures.

The Kurt Student figure is one last year's releases so it's in the more recent 3R/DiD era of higher quality and detail, and also into the era when they advertise the leather items as 'leather'.

I like PPKs, but at the moment don't have a single one, so I may end up buying a Marseille parted out set too.

Even on the wall, the closest thing to a PPK is a deactivated 1959 proof marked Vincenzo Bernadelli Model 60.

The PPK and holster arrived this morning. Nice little items, and the last piece of the puzzle for the flying uniform figure.

I thought I might get away without it, and use the ones in the set to complete the look of his tropical tunic uniform. However, he always seemed to be photographed with his sidearm when kitted out for flying.

Cool. If not mistaken, we should be getting it shipping out next month, if it makes it out before the Chinese new year break.

This is one of the figures I'm most looking forward to. I'm really hungry to have another DiD!

This was the PPK and holster from the Karl Student figure:

The only difference to Marseille's is the white stitching, as opposed to brown. It's a trivial thing, but I might go over the thread with a felt tip pen.

As I wrote before, I really like PPKs. They're an elegant design for a small, unassuming pistol, carried by pilots and army officers who preferred the smaller size, and didn't expect to have much use for a sidearm.

Its origin, in 1931, was as a concealable weapon for plain clothes police, hence PPK: Polizeipistole Kriminal.

I remembered this morning that I did once have a 1/6 PPK or sorts. It was the 1970s Palitoy Action Man version:

The one next to it is a Beretta M1934, which is quite chunky and ungainly in comparison. (I have an old Japanese blank firing replica on the wall).

Both the PPK and holster from the Karl Student figure look great. I sometimes wish that Sideshow would sell DiD, Facepool and DAM figures, just to be able to throw reward points at them. I guess that they don't sell in the volumes that SS requires.

Here's a review from kakaluote on the BBICN forum:

The most direct feeling is that the head carving has not collapsed! The new body is heavier than the previous one, and it is about the same weight as the durable at020. The leather jacket feels very good, but maybe it is a little thick? The wind belt of the big-brimmed hat is too middle and should be at the bottom. The puppy's head can be taken off magnetically, and the plastic tail is very light and has no feel in the hand, so I can't post videos. Just watch it first, and then take care of it when I get home at night.

Received both invoices from Giantoy a little while ago. :)

One more in hand shot, this one's from BBICN member 71548:

Thanks for posting those reviews!

I really like the head sculpts. The uniforms and gear are the usual high quality from DiD. Can't wait to get them.

I don't know if it's a new thing for DiD but I love the fact that the pin badges really are miniature pin badges.

But with the Italian Pilot Wing they made a mistake and cut the film, as there's an extra hole in the shirt from the first failed attempt.

Seeing the badge on the shirt made me think it would be a waste to have that hidden under the tunic, which started me wondering whether there's a third figure to be made from these two sets.

Under the tunic there's only a little bit of the shirt that shows, so any white or tan shirt could be coloured to match.

The shirt combined with the shorts, socks and side cap are the makings of a random officer.

Hans-Joachim himself:

I won't have a spare pair of tropical boots but I do have a pair of DiD brown leather ones that should work:

This is a useful photo. Notice the open shirt collar and lack of Knight's Cross, which I'd forgotten about:

It helps greatly with putting together the flying outfit. I was going to use the scarf to hide it's absence, but it isn't necessary. Seems in the photos where he's wearing the flying jacket he doesn't have the medal.

The shirt I'm planning to use for this outfit is the tan one from DML's 'Danny' 82nd Airborne. It's already designed to be worn with the top button undone. The scarf will cover the neck joint. I'll probably have this figure kitted up with the parachute and life jacket, and the oxygen mask hanging from one side of the helmet.

I think you are right, Asta, about the possibility of setting up a third figure with the available uniforms. Obviously, spare/loose items will need to be obtained in double/triple in order to complete them, but the options are there. I don't want "3" Marseille's in the collection but a generic pilot could be possible.

And now the funs begins...

The quality looks as good as expected.

The sculpts are very good and well painted, though I blasted them up close with the camera flash on.

Now there's a lot of rearranging and futzing to do, to build the three figures from the sets.

The extra DiD Advanced Slim body is still on pre-order with Kit, so my flying version figure will have to use the body that came with DAF Toys' Scarecrow, which looks pretty similar in build.
