I would get a good Abby figure.

Why don't people extract the actual face model from the game and 3D print that?

I'd get an Abby headsculpt at least. There is one on Etsy 3D printed, but the hair looks really soft. I may end up getting it and resculpt the hair.
Custom figure above is looking great so far!

Worked on the backpack this entire week. Quite a project! Sent a neutral and an angry expression head to a painter I’m working with. Hopefully she’s all done by the end of January!

They aren't printable without closing up all the holes in the model. I've seen Joel's model and it's a total mess if you want to print it. I'm sure Abby's is also like that.

yup! There's a lot of work to be done to the in game models to make them usable as a physical product. It's not a 1:1. I'm more than sure the tech of going from the 3D model to actually printing has changed since I was in college, but even back then, there were quite of few steps involved to get something actually ready to print. Very different from just typing up a paper document and pressing print.

Update on my Abby project for those who care 😊. Obviously not done yet. Angry sculpt in the works as well.

Looking good.

And as you can see I extracted the related posts from the LiM thread because they deserved to be kept together in their own thread to show the progress.

Just wanna warn you guys. Do not get your sculpts printed for cheap by someone on etsy. Not gonna call out the sellers because they’re probably just learning too and they didn’t mean to sell me a busted sculpt. I assume atleast.

But as you may have guessed I had tons of issues, like receiving a sculpt with eyelashes attached to it and having parts like the hair not properly designed so they just broke off out of nowhere. And it was too poor quality to even paint. Then there was another seller who sold me a head that left 3d printer marks because it was printed incorrectly and my painter said it was made out of poor quality resin that scratches very easily. Both these sellers have hundreds upon hundreds good reviews and they claim to be experienced in printing 1/6 sculpts.

I’m sure they are fine for beginner painters but for an expensive paintjob by a professional it’s best to get a sculpt from a professional as well. But of course I wanted to cheap out, it’s a lesson I have now learned the hard way.

Anyways, don’t be like me. It’s gonna work out probably with the sculpts I currently have but I could’ve avoided so much issues.

It’s my first full custom project so atleast I know now who is trustworthy and who’s not for future projects.

Happy new years!

Neutral head has been finished! Angry head now in progress. Hopefully my painter (ig @jcmcustompaints) will be able to ship the heads to me soon. The Royal Mail has been having some major issues with shipping overseas and they’ve temporarily shut down sending packages abroad entirely.

Some more progress

Proportions look good. I will use foundation to skintone match. The artist used a warmer skintone to hide some of the flaws from the poor print quality (Lesson 1: know where to print your headsculpts).
