EDIT: yea, might not look like that much have changed, but... much have changed.
Little details added here and there + added weaponry. Tried to make this thing as movie accurate as I can with the parts I can acquire... ofcourse there are differences, it's not perfect, nothing ever is...
+ it seems like every single little detail in this movie changes from scene to scene, even the movie posters are not consistent, but I did the best I could.

I liked the idea of making this figure, but in reality it seems almost too simple? Kinda dull even.
Really hard to get decent pics of it, since there's not much going on, but I'll give it a try.

Obviously the jacket & hat are a bit wrong, but those are the best I could find.
Body is just a buffed up TT (bubble wrap + ducktape), HT Arnie body would've been a waste + a very tight fit clothes wise.

I hope I can still figure out how to make the ID-badge for him. It might give me a few options posing wise...

MORE PICS COMING SOON! IF THERE'S ENOUGH INTREST... SEEMS I'M KINDA LAZY NOWADAYS.

DIE HARD (1988)
#status: done!

hated this figure for the longest time. actually I think I've been sitting on this for about six monts now.
I had the eBay knock-off with stubble&hair as the head and the whole thing just felt really, really off...

it wasn't until I sculpted the hair myself to the bald Colton knock-off's, that everything started falling into place.
still feel the HT head is off... but it's the best one out there at the moment.

I want my figures as seemless as possible. hence the "sleeves".
they dont articulate very well, but I keep my figures mostly in static poses anyway.
I seem to prefer them this way? and the sleeves do seem to compliment Willis's physique better than for example the regular TTM-19 arms...

PARTS USED:

head ............ knock-off Joe Colton w/ custom added hair&cigarette

DIE HARD 2
#status: done! (avaiting updated pics. Jan.2014)

DIEHARD2___WIP_72dpi-netti.jpg

decided to be a little different and went with the cheezy and underrated sequel to the blockbuster that is DIE HARD...
WHY? you may ask, but as a FIN it's close to my heart. Sibelius, snow, Renny Harlin...

and funny enough there is actually a Commando (1985) connection in the movie.
from IMBD: The General (in Die Hard2) is from "Valverde", the fictitious Latin-American country used in Commando. (The first Die Hard was originally supposed to be the sequel to that movie).

this bash was a very enjoyable experience and I'm thinking of doing a bash from the first instalment too...

I must say I had my doubts about the Brothers Production dirty Johnny head, but it really seems to be the best likeness out there at the moment (just realised mine's actually just a very good and nicely painted knock-off from the original Bros. head. and the sculpt still looks nice.). actually I like the Art-Figures head more, but the bit too heavy beard and the lack of hair make the Bros. head an easy choice. really hoping Hot Toys will eventually pick up the license.

BEYOND THE LAW
#status: done!

this is Sid, man.

for anyone intrested in the film: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103805/?ref_=ttrel_rel_tt

Story:
Dan Saxon is an undercover cop who infiltrates a biker gang to nail the scum behind a drug-smuggling operation.
In order to maintain the trust of the gang's leader, he must commit ever more dangerous and heinous crimes.
Just how far 'beyond the law' will Saxon go? (Written by Alfred Jingle)
. . .

done. finally... I'm really, really happy I saw this through as I started the project well over a year ago.
originally thought about doing this when Hot Toys Chris Taylor was first announced in 2010, but chickened out... and mere 3 years later, here we are ;)
I'm not much of a painter or a sculptor, but I think the long hair and beard came out ok. without the Chris Taylor forehead seam I could've tried something a bit more natural with the hair, but all-in-all I think it came out pretty nice.
EDIT: please mind that the picture was taken at an unflattering angle considering the hair. from other angles it falls more naturally to the figures shoulders...

to me the blu-ray release of "Beyond the Law/Fixing The Shadow/Hart Wie Stahl/Made of Steel" seems very, very dark and the colors just seem somewhat off...
so, I based the color palette on the figure closer to my own recollections of the original PAL VHS-tape I used to have.

I was really struggeling with a good pose, untill I realised something as simple as lighting a cigarette might really fit the character well.
I didn't want to underline the bikerlook with guns etc. something simple works fine with the subjectmatter...

all the printwork was a drag, as it all had to be drawn from scratch, but well worth it... overall a fun little project that somewhere in the process became very, very personal to me.

Re: 1/6 COMMANDO John Matrix ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash

I was actually considering doing a commando, my oh my, i'm definitely doing one now. That is amazing!!!!

Need to see more!!

Re: 1/6 COMMANDO John Matrix ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash

As for the help with the vest - i'm not sure you need it. :lol There's not much you can do to that to make it better by the looks of it.

Re: 1/6 COMMANDO John Matrix ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash

I was thinking about this version, now I might just have to do one :banghead

Re: 1/6 COMMANDO John Matrix ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash

Same! What a custom to undertake it is though.

I already have the T-800 head and body ready for useage! Been discussing it with graywolf, the dutch body would look a tiny bit better but sometimes you've got to settle for what you've got! It's no bad alternative.

Re: 1/6 COMMANDO John Matrix ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash

Holy crap, that's cool. Fantastic custom, man. We need more pics!

Yea I have a buddy that's putting together the green shirt version of John, it would be nice to have both version side by side though :rock

Re: 1/6 COMMANDO John Matrix ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash

Might want to post this in the GIJoe/Military thread. Might get more traffic and insight into what your looking for.

Looks aces!

Re: 1/6 COMMANDO John Matrix ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash

Damn, that is a fantastic looking custom!!

Re: 1/6 COMMANDO John Matrix ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash

man that looks good....wish HT's would do one now so I could own one...

Re: 1/6 COMMANDO John Matrix ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash

Thanks for the kind words everyone :hi5: I really am overwhelmed of all the feedback.
I wasn't even planning taking on this project, but as I asked for this figure/the chances of seeing it, in the HT facebook page, somehow several other HT-fans started dissing the idea of this figure? I mean what's that all about? What harm is it to others if HT had decided to make this thing? It's not like they are oblicated to buy every single item Hot Toys makes? Is it? I didn't really understand the hole ordeal, but I guess some fans just like to stir things up a little...
But moving along, dissapointed from that, somehow I started seeing the forest from the trees and saw how it could be done as a custom. I mean well planned is ½-way done. Right? Wrong. BOOM!
I had to put collecting on hold for this monstrous project. This really is a time/money consuming project (I live in Finland so the postage cost's alone were a killer). The tactical vest, M202A1 and other stuff are heavily modified just for this film, so it's not really that easy finding all the stuff and figuring out how to make everything work... and with my three year old running around (I'm a stay-home-dad at the moment), I was just going loco most of the time :panic: ...and it didn't really help that when it arrived, the wife decided to give, the M202A1 to my son to play with...

But anyways here's my problem area for now:

000Commando_FINAL_pic3-BACK____72dpi.jpg

There seems to be somekind of a rig (dunno if that's the right word?) supporting the two throwing knives in the back. Unfortunately no copy of the film (at least any of the ones I have, dont own the Blu-ray) is really all-that-clear. So that you could really see what's going on in the back. So, I thought prop-pics would really help me there, but as it's not really seen in the movie it doesen't really even matter what I do. But still... I cant really figure out what to do with it.

As this is a Work-in-progress I dont want to put too many pics out there just yet.

I'm still trying to figure out this "rig-thingy" for now. And after that there really is only the Valmet to go, and I think I basicly have it all figured out already. So the "final" pics might be coming soon(er than even I dare to think).

I'LL BE BACK.

Re: 1/6 COMMANDO John Matrix ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash
