Most custom artists usually end up ghosting or pulling a scam. It’s the way of the hobby. You see it time and time again.

The cycle goes like this.

Customizer showcases their work, usually a one of a kind item. Collectors start foaming at the mouth and bombard customizer with messages/comments asking if things are for sale or if they commission. Customizer goes in with good intentions and does a run or two. Either through greed or being completely overwhelmed, there is radio silence and customers get ghosted and the artist take the money and run. It’s happened on these boards more times than I can count and it will happen again. With new avenues of promotion such as social media platforms like Instagram, it happens much more.

That's why I don't get into the customizing game and why I have a policy now that if a figure seems to need heavy customization I pass on it. I tend to assume I'll get unlucky and sign up right in the overwhelmed customizer phase who then cuts and runs.

Man I'd love my Hot Toys Robocops repainted but I just don't want to take the risk of losing both the figures and my money.

Yeah it’s just not worth it, especially when said pieces are “made to order”.

Tons of them tempt me but I ended up getting turned off by the horror stories or the ridiculous asking prices.

So how many different custom sculpts are there for this now? I haven't been keeping up, but just saw that Jaxon is selling one on OSK now, and it looks pretty darn good to me.

I've never had much interest in the figure before since the head was so awful, but I'm seriously tempted to pick one up now since they're still easy to come by. And I've already got a spare drape cape I can use for it...

the craziest part is that it's only $85 usd shipped and includes two mouth plates, everything is painted

There's something with the eyes that are off looking with Jaxons version. They look very wonky, at least compared to OTs.

He made him look too drunk and sleepy. But for $85 it looks to be a good option compared to the crap Hot Toys gave. No idea what the final version will look like though since those photos are from the one off prototype he had custom painted from heise_studio.

I'm guessing Jaxon just scanned and scaled down the old Enterbay cowl since that's what he looks to be doing for all his work.

For the price point, Jaxons is the way to go, might put in a PO for the new cape and cowl and wait for the Begins suit to hit deep discount.

Can anyone confirm if the later batches fixed the shine on the suit? Somebody said it was more matte in the final batch

He looks unfazed. Like that look he’d get in Begins whenever Rachel or Gordon is talking to him. Reminds me of the EMPIRE cover.

OT's is still comfortably the best in my eyes. The others are seem more stylized but less accurate.

Needless to say all are a huge upgrade on the awful stock HT sculpt.

Yeah it’s a gamble. Especially as you see the time frame for your PayPal buyer protection come and go. I’m pretty much at the mercy of a few custom makers right now. I waited nearly nine months on a Jaxon sculpt, which was about six months longer than quoted. I kinda go into it knowing I may get burned.

I’ve never been burned thankfully but there have been so many cases where people have gotten screwed. For one I waited about two years, ended up getting it despite two months of no contact. I was sweating bullets. Well then they did another run, people jumped on it and those people never got their figure. The worst is sending in a head or figure and you’re at the mercy of the artist because if they go rogue, they’re keeping what you sent them.

I’ve gotten capes from Jaxon that took a while, but I’ve always gotten them. It’s been through Kit though, less of a risk.

Kit is as legit as it gets, you'd be safe going through him for sure.
