I appreciate the suggestion, but I personally don’t feel like going through the trouble of hollowing out the light up arm to make it fit like a normal piece of forearm armor to then use on the newer body. Plus, I would like to keep it as an available option should I ever need to revert it back to its original form in the event I’m in dire need and have to sell it. And for me, it’s a lot easier to just repaint and color match a stock piece of amor from another clone figure
There's a broken one on Ebay for sale right now.
You'll find it's probably 90% a normal gauntlet with some additions for the light. You can buy the broken one, hollow it, and fit it on a normal clone body with all the armour.
But i do appreciate that not everyone would think that's an easy job. I did a repaint on a tank commander a few weeks back and that armour was very easy to remove. You just need a spudger and a replacement body.

I know how to do it, I just don’t want to :lol I have all the other necessary tools to do it and understand how easy it would be. But again, for me, it would be even easier to just repaint a normal piece of armor from a normal clone. Also, a piece of armor from another clone on TA would be cheaper for me than even buying that broken one on eBay. I’ve already seen it and have considered it :wink1: this is something I have been thinking about long before I even bought the figure. I even have a spare light up arm that I bought from TA just so I could have the holograms. But since folks have mentioned how fragile that light-up arm can be, I'd rather keep both stock so that I have a back up if one breaks.

More appropriate today, but would also have been funny if he'd shown up tomorrow for Revenge of Fifth.
You know, I've noticed that Revenge of the Fifth seems to get less and less attention as the years go on
You'll have to post pictures when it is all done. Customizing has never been my thing but love to see how others get it done.

I'd end up breaking something lol.

Ha, yea it can be a bit daunting for sure. Even though I've been customizing nearly ever since I entered the 1/6 hobby, there's always a bit of fear of "what if I mess something up?" when I'm about to work on a figure. I think mostly b/c I don't want to have to source and buy another piece if something should that happen :lol Even with this figure, I'm waiting until the "newness" wears off before I break it open. Though I have been examining it along with pics of loose parts so I know where the natural seams are to properly prop all the armor pieces open to help insure that I don't actually break something along the way. I'm terrible at taking progress pics, and taking pics in general :lol But, when I do decide to tackle this project, I'll try to remember so that I can post here.

So, I swapped the original Cody body with a 501st body and Jesse suit. No pics yet b/c it's late and I'm more than likely going to have to go back and make some edits. One thing I noticed though compared to later clones is that the armpit hole on the chest armor sits a lot higher on Cody than on later clones causing his arms to flare out some unfortunately. But overall, not as bad as I thought it would be. Only took about an hour and half to complete the whole thing.

I made some booboo's that didn't seem like they would cause an issue until it was all glued back together though :lol :slap

So, word of warning to anyone thinking about doing the body swap, DO NOT swap the foam padding from the original Cody body to the newer clone body like I did. He has some thick foam padding around his ankles and then some thinner padding on his traps. I swapped those over thinking it would help keep the shin armor in place and help the chest armor to not sink down too low. Well, the shin armor wants to force it's self down b/c it's so tight therefore puts pressure on the feet and the the chest armor wants to float up b/c of that little bit of foam on the traps 🙄

I'm going to try to hopefully think of a clever way to remove the foam pieces so I don't have to crack open the armor again.

I will say, the newer clone body suits are so much better than what came with Cody originally. I did end up using the Jesse neck b/c so little is visible even when pulling the collar down that the difference in skin tone is negligible. But it does look nice to have some of the neck fleshtone neck exposed while having the helmetless headsculpt on there. Definitely recommend folks at least doing that bit.

You'll also need new wrist pegs if you decided to do this mod. The ones with Cody are too loose to the point that they'll almost fall out.

Once I'm actually finished and am happy with the results, I'll post a pic if I can make one look decent enough.

Ok so, I got the padding at the traps out without undoing the armor :yess: it was a pita to get the neck off again, then get to the foam, and put the neck back on with how tight the collar is. But, the armor sitting down that extra ~3-4mm makes a difference.

I also went back to the shorter neck ball joint that the Jesse neck originally came with as the heads sat much too high with Cody’s original, longer neck ball joint. Thought that was odd but that’s how it worked out

Here are two pics. First one showing off the new neck from the Jesse figure. Second one is full body with the helmet. The new forearm armor is from the Clone Pilot figure. It matches almost perfectly, at least for now. And yes, I still have the foam on his knees and shoulders 😅 Going to keep them until I’m actually ready for display. Right now, he’s back chillin in his box

Great work Gipetto. Nice to see how it looks when done.

Neck looks really good in the photo. Adds a lot to the sculpt and really helps sell the realism.

How tricky is it to remove the chest armor? My Cody came with a big spot of paint rub on the chest (not weathering) and have been intending for a while to swap it out for a different one at some point, just waiting on TA to part another Cody out.

It’s was actually pretty easy, surprisingly. I would recommend removing the armor from both arms before you do it.

What I did to open up the the chest armor was just squeezing the chest armor with with both hands, thumbs on one seam and index and middle fingers on the other seam. Just kept squeezing with a little more pressure each time little by little and it eventually just popped open from one of the sides. Then I just lifted both arms up and shimmied the chest armor off.

Hope that helps :hi5:

Thanks! I know visually it probably doesn’t look too different but I can already tell that articulation wise, he feels much more solid.

The legs on the original body must’ve been pretty skinny to need the added thigh padding though, b/c the thigh armor fits very snug on the 501st legs as is.

I’ve done some modding on armoured figures and I use a mobile phone spudger to remove the armour.
Just Google “mobile phone spudger”, or “phone pry tool” and you’ll find packs of them for pennies. See pic below.
They are designed to part plastic parts non destructively so they are the perfect solution.
The most recent one I did(Inposted in the relevant thread), there were a few bits that needed separated for repainting and that tool was invaluable.

Did you end up hollowing out one of the Cody arms? And if so what tools did you use? I plan on doing this body swap with a Rex body since my Cody has a broken elbow joints but it's a bit daunting since it will be my first mod

Random question: did Cody have some color differences between batches? I’ve noticed that some Hot Toys will have color discrepancies, like Resistance Rey with her sleeves being grey or pink.

Cody in in-hand pics from other collectors has this nice golden orange color scheme. But some other pics and my own in-hand copy had this off-putting “circus peanut” orange.

I originally sold him about a year ago but I’m in the market again, so I’m curious what you all think. I’m aware that pics and screen colors can vary, but I only have my own real life in-hand impressions to go on. Am I imagining things, or have you noticed it too?

It’s possible. He doesn’t look very circus peanuty to me.

But it could be the lightning. It’s hard to tell what the true colors in a photo are based on a ton of factors so it would be difficult to compare based on just a picture online.

Sorry for the late reply to your question. No I didn't hollow out the arm. In my follow up post after the one you quoted I added a few more details such as the forearm armor I'm using is from the Clone Pilot figure. It matches almost perfectly.

Modding can be scary especially if it's your first one. Do you know how to sew? If not, I would look at a Youtube video for a simple ladder stitch for sewing the back of the suit up after swapping the body. Also, you'll need one of the newer Clone black body suits as Cody's is a bit slimmer fit and the right arm sleeve is only a half sleeve since the lower arm can be removed. Don't just rip the back open either like I've seen some ppl do when they swap bodies on comic superhero figures. Take your time to undo the stitching back there

When removing the armor, just be patient and they'll eventually break open. I also just opened one side then would slide it off like the crotch, torso and chest armor. Keep track left and right side piece separate.

Hope this helps!

I originally sold my Cody a few years ago. I found a used one at a local store and picked it up.

I noticed the left arm seems a tad loose, has anyone else experienced this? This I why I hate buying used figures… never know what other people did with them lol.

I think that’s a normal defect on Cody. I got one of these new for my son when it was first released. He’s had it in one pose the whole time and the left arm is loose.
