This is an amazing figure, but i have no interest in the film. Might get it anyway because it's a keaton batman and you can never have too many of those

I hope they apply this level of sculpting to an 89 Bruce too. I want that Batcomputer, with him in the turtleneck and jeans and that police file folder in sixth scale.

I think they will. The original Tuxedo Returns Bruce doesn’t hold up. I think we’ll be seeing a young Bruce Wayne from them very very soon.

I just hope the Batcomputer doesn’t get repurposed for the Flash instead.

I’ll be curious to see how they update the character from the campy Burton films. I was never particularly a fan of the Michael Keaton casting. Keaton is a fine actor and he was able to sell himself in the role. But my feeling was always he’s not the actor ideally suited for the role, or even close to it. Even an outstanding performance in this Flash film won’t sway me to get a Keaton Batman figure since I have five Hot Toys Batflecks and will get whatever InArt puts out for Snyder’s Batfleck. But hopefully the film makes him more relevant to the modern day aesthetics for the superhero genre.

Well you’re in luck because I bet the next Hot Toys Flash figure is an Affleck Batman.

See I'm the opposite, i love keatons batman and I'm gonna get this figure only because it's keaton batman and I'm seeing the flash only for keaton, i felt he fit the burton films perfectly and i love their campiness. On the other hand, i don't like batfleck or the synder films and find them kinda boring

This is one of the easiest preorders in a while. I'm prob going in on this movie. I love the designs and everything I've heard about the film says its a winner.

Burton Batman is campy, oooooook...

It really is, though. Yes, all the hype back in 89 was that it was "dark and gritty and realistic" and we surely thought that at the time. But it's been well over 30 years and looking at it with fresh eyes, and comparing it to the movies that have come out in the last 20 years...it's over the top camp. Nothing will ever be as egregious as the Schumacher movies, but there's a heightened reality and a sense of "silliness" to it. Especially "Returns." That's basically the 66 Batman with all the color bleached out. That movie is ridiculous.

Even though he has the reputation of being the "dark, brooding, emo goth prince" Burton is no stranger to over the top kitschy qualities. See "Mars Attacks" and "Dark Shadows."

It is, and thats why i love it. Nicholson's performance is a riot, the movie has a silly tone and i love it for that. It's my favourite batman movie tied with the dark knight. It looks brilliant, like a comic book and there are moments of seriousness but even in the seriousness is campy fun

I can’t deny. The more time passes, the more It appears grotesque and weird.
Like an UFO in the Batman cinematography.
89 is still the perfect balance between comic book and live action and is still immaculate and timeless for me.

I never felt like Batman was campy in the Burton films, but the world and Gotham he inhabits definitely is, especially in Batman Returns. The plot with Penguin running for Mayor and him hijacking the Batmobile is straight out of the 60s show. Christopher Walken walking around in that crazy wig and pinstripe business suit, ****.

Batman depicted in both movies though, is ironically normal. It helps that Keaton’s Batman is mostly quiet and stoic. I feel like you could stick Keaton in the Schumacher, Nolan, Snyder, or Reeves movies and he would still work. Can’t say the same for the other Batmen. They’re definitely products of their films and specific visions whereas Keaton’s simply exists in its own vacuum. It helps that he’s the most reserved and hard nosed of them all. You could easily see him doing anything from fighting Arnold’s Mr. Freeze to interrogating Joker/Riddler to plotting ways to kill Superman. That’s why I think of all the Batmen to be chosen in a movie that deals with time travel/multiverses, Keaton is the best choice. His Batman can be in a comedy, a drama, a horror, an action film, etc. and still work whereas the others are bogged down by the specifics of their world. Could you see Clooney in The Batman with the thumb drive joke or Affleck going up against Tommy Lee Jones? I couldn’t.

The Burton movies invented a lot of elements that are still around today. Alfred being Bruce Wayne’s surrogate. The grounded arsenal and Batcave. The grapnel gun, spear launchers, gauntlets, the armory, the suit, the sculpted furrow browed cowl, it was all established 34 years ago. Their Batman was made to be taken seriously and filmmakers have borrowed from it ever since.
