Slick looking figure. Your WWII collection has grown significantly in just the past several months.

I don't know if there's more being made now because I neglected WWII for a long time, apart from the Red Army girls. I wasn't paying attention to all the releases but it feels like I came back in at the right time.

As I was putting Wolfgang together I was getting more nostalgic DML vibes than from any other DID so far.

I could remember the similar DML figure I had but not the name. This site got me the answer:

All the links are dead, but it lists DML figures from the start up until what appears to be 2007.

The figure was Ernst:

This one came out looking 10x better than the generation war brothers, much more natural fit overall and the face doesn't look like a comic book soldier. I may just get this one afterall.

After I got Oberleutnant Winter I was considering his brother, but he just wasn't appealing enough. Then along came Wolfgang who was similar, yet looked better in every respect.

Oh yeah, that's a super classic figure. Dragon is what got me into 1/6, I will always be grateful for the amount of love DML put into their figures over the many many years they made 1/6 even the vehicles, they really did it all.
Wolfgang is kind of similar to the old DML Axel Haas.

This is still my favourite DML figure and I think one of the most unique ones they made and I never got, one of these days I'll buy one and update his boots and body.

It was Dragon that opened my eyes to what was possible in 1/6. It was like GI Joe/Action Man had suddenly grown up.

I didn't get any good head-on shots of Wolfgang before because they ended up out of focus. Can't use the flash because of the finish on his sculpt. This attempt isn't perfect, but a lot better than the photos I discarded earlier:

It's not easy to tighten his helmet strap. It's better than I originally had it, but need to get it tighter still. It's easier to do when not on the sculpt, but then not easy to put back on if too tight.

These photos are good, Asta. They best capture how they look in person, on display.

Dragon/DML will always hold a special place in my 1/6 figure collecting heart. They were the ones that really elevated the hobby from "toys" to "collectables". I still have a large number of their figures on display and they really do hold up nicely, to this day.

Very tempting figure.

He turned out even better than I expected. The colours of the helmet and smock make him quite an eye catching figure.

There were some moments during assembly where I feared he wasn't going to look right, with the smock and especially the trousers. The trousers looked really awkward at first, with bunched up creases going in all directions, and it wasn't until I started pushing the excess material into the gaiters that he started to transform. I've since pulled a little of the material back out so they aren't tucked so tightly.

I see complaints about the uniform colour being too grey, but in hand and under different lighting you can see the green in it. I like that DID are creating such a variety of feldgrau, rather than opting for the same shade for all figures. Their Afrika Korps also comprise a variety of tropical greens. If they make more DAK I hope they'll do some that are more sun-faded tan.

I'd recommend it to anyone considering buying him. Well worth it and was as good as I hoped it to be. Parts are great, helmet/headsculpt/Kar98 rifle & ZF42 case/tan and water camo smock/mosquito net... and the little things like the Wehrmacht snipers badge (Scharfschützenabzeichen) & the Luftwaffe boot knife etc.
The only thing that surprised me was the mess kit was plastic! And I'm still not a fan of the GREY uniform. Its still very grey amd nowhere near any of the shades of Feldgrau that were used. A little dash of green into uniform colour and figure would be 10/10.
Still worth the price in my opinion. I've been having fun with him outside...
