Unless we get a Bespin Han or some other amazing Mando S3 figures, this will be my last HT SW figure. Been waiting too damn long for this one. It's already 5 years too late

When the prices were somewhat reasonable, it was also easier to justify 2nd and 3rd tier figure purchases but at the current price point, not so much. (at least for me.)
I have also been winding down from impulse buying and really concentrating more on the must-haves. I've been also picking up older figures that I missed when they were originally released.
As far as Star Wars goes, the must-have list continues to get shorter and aside from the possible OT, "Andor" and "Rogue One" characters, there isn't anything else that has really caught my attention enough to warrant forking over $300+ on a figure.
There are some great licenses being addressed (finally) by some 3rd party manufacturers and those have me more excited of possible releases but I'm personally winding down on the hobby, as well.
By the way, as nice as the HT 3PO looks, I don't feel the requirement to upgrade from my SS version. Aside from the wonky thumbs, I've always like it.

Anakin having built C-3PO is a detail I think I honestly just subconsciously suppress.
Although a TPM 3PO would make for a cool figure.

This is very true but also keep in my mind itās a diecast figure, specific new body and multiple accessories. Vader has what three heads, two bases and both have LED. But yes nothing under 500AU now. This is the Hot Toys way.

Gotta love diecast Hot Toys; theyāre still mostly plastic but HT uses the inclusion of some clunky metal to justify hiking the price up to the moon and then, because it adds so much weight, the already highly inflated shipping rates double as well. Just peachy.

Yep, the cheap metal does nothing to add value for us; just a thinly veiled excuse to artificially inflate prices. All the while putting the parts at risk of paint flaking or reacting weirdly over time.
Only benefit is if itās used structurally for joints that support a lot of weight but thatās about it.
Plastic all the way.

Iām really perplexed by this figure. I love that HT are finally bringing out an OT Threepio. However, for me, I think the head sculpt has a major issue in that the chin section looks far too small and therefore makes the overall look of the head wrong and small compared to the actual costume. The rest of the sculpt looks great. is anyone else seeing this??

Man, I was so excited when they showed this over a week ago. I've been patiently waiting for and really wanted an improved OT HT 3PO in my collection over my SS 3PO, but the more I look at this the less impressed I am. Stubby fingers on the posed hands look odd. We've had articulated fingers on Iron Man figures since the original Iron Man 2 armors. How could HT not include hands with articulated fingers?? Plus, he includes a gripping hand with no droid communicator included. The elongated torso with longer straight wires (although I guess more correct for ROTJ) also looks odd. The eyes look even deader when not lit up than the SS version too. And the thick pistons...
I was all ready to PO this, but now I find myself debating to play the wating game for an eventual ANH version. The version I really want. I mean, I've waited this long....

It's always worth looking on eBay for that Tamashi diecast one. With the Hot Toys being announced I expect the prices might drop a bit over the coming months. I own that 3PO and I can tell you it's a total masterpiece. I'll likely also get this Hot Toys, but it doesn't look anywhere near as good as the Tamashi. I don't see that one ever being beaten.
Oh yeah, the sculpt is crazy off with the proportions. Surprised this hasnāt already been discussed to death yet. Iām just hoping it will get fixed on the final release.

As far as articulated fingers I donāt really care. C-3PO doesnāt really hold things often. Other than ANH where he uses the communicator. The figure doesnāt have anything for him to hold.

1. Buy this.
2. Get ANH if/when it comes out.
3. Sell this (or keep it, 3PO is everywhere).
They probably will, but what if they donāt make another OT 3PO? What if it doesnāt come out for another 5 years?
You can always sell this figure down the road. People are going to want it. Might as well have a figure you can enjoy (despite the issues) than just wait on one with nothing in hand.

It's easy to justify a couple C3PO's for an OT collection. The same with R2 and Chewie. Personally, I like the idea of getting all three for ANH and ROTJ, rather than ESB, as that bookends the trilogy.

I still love my Tamashi Threepio. The first $400AU figure I bought years ago! I scored the Artoo for $250AU and the duo will never be replaced.
I didn't even think about how the eyes might look "dead" when not lit up until reading this discussion today.
I've railed against Hot Toys' lame gimmicks going back to, at least, Ghost Rider. If you want light up features, action punches, talking, etc., seems like you could go with Hasbro. Do high end collectibles need that junk? If it doesn't affect the standard, stock figure, then fine. No biggie when the Predator laser sighting or Terminator eye isn't lit. But something like this? Who is going to keep it on 24/7? In which case the gimmick has very little utility in even the scenario where people care about it. Another big annoyance with me is that the batteries have to be removed, otherwise they will corrode and potentially damage the figure. Gotta agree with Justin's video, they should have included a standard head with painted eyes for those who don't care about the gimmick.

Beautiful pairing. I had that R2 and would have never let it go if only the dome had been metal. Stellar figure though.
