Honestly, it kinda isn't. Though AoTC isn't the greatest SW movie and we all can debate the pros and cons of it. However, the film is a merchandise gold mine (only trumped by ROTS), between the clones, Jedi, battle droids and to a lesser degree, Padme's outfits lol. Prequel merchandise is at a all-time high right now and you can see it across all major companies for Star Wars collecting.

HT has a clone body and countless legions and characters that they can milk for a decade, and now they have B1 Battle Droids that can be used for a few repaints as well. Funny thing is, all 9 of their anniversary releases, besides Padme, C3-PO and Anakin, could of been used in their TCW or ROTS line. They just used the anniversary as a marketing excuse.

I agree, it really isn’t strange at all. Especially considering all the newfound or resurgent love and goodwill for the PT and TCW now.

Plus Howard likes the PT and I believe Anakin is his favorite character.

Anakin - Popular Character
Padme - Popular Character, Often Requested
R2-D2 - Popular Character, Easy Release
C-3PO - Companion Piece to R2, ROTJ Practice
Mace Windu - SLJ, Popular Jedi
Clone Trooper - Army Builder, Clones = $, Repaint
Clone Pilot - Army Builder, Clone, Retool
Battle Droid - Army Builder, Cool Droid, Repaintable
Super Battle Droid - Army Builder, Cool Droid

They could’ve gone harder honestly. A lot more Jedi they could’ve made. Clone officer variants too. But it is interesting that combined with past releases like Yoda, Dooku, and Jango, AOTC is arguably the most diverse and thoroughly represented line by Hot Toys, I’ll give you that. Only ANH is technically more complete.

The only major omission is AOTC Obi-Wan and that’s probably because there was one on the market and one imminent.

That is actually a beautiful figure (I have it) to be fair it does look odd standing next to anything else, the designs on the back are very detailed.

Wait, I've never seen this before. That looks really cool.

It was an… interesting release to say the least. Definitely one of the most controversial ones.

It has some legitimately interesting designs that would look nice on a plate but it also has a porcelain pattern codpiece. So, y’know.

So you keep it by itself in the fine china cabinet? :lol

Do people really want a Hot Toys Jabba? That Sideshow one is still readily available and imo a bit of a masterpiece. I’m no Sideshow apologist/fanboy, it’s just sometimes they surprise you and do something really well. I just wondered what Hot Toys could bring to the table that Sideshow didn’t with their Jabba? Cheaper price?

I don't mean strange in relation to lack of quality of AOTC - I just mean HT has never dived in so fast and so deep into an older film property as they did with AOTC. I've never seen anything like it before - a few releases suddenly became a deluge, even including various medium sized vehicles with huge tooling.
There was a pretty big push for ANH when Hot Toys first got the Star Wars license back in the day. Pretty deep line consisting of essentially all the main characters (minus R2-D2 and C-3PO). That pro

There aren’t any AOTC vehicles. There are some from The Clone Wars which is set around the same time period.

Yes, but what about the whole Hot Toys conundrum? That with the added whole fan please that we got in the days of early Star Wars, as compared to now, what’s the best we got? Genuinely curious.

I mean sure I suppose it’s fair that the ANH figures were pushed hard because the license was new.

Regardless AOTC isn’t the only instance of Hot Toys giving attention to Star Wars. Just look at the checklist thread. ESB, ROTJ, and AOTC are about even.

I agree. Sideshows' second version of Jabba, which includes the throne, is truly an all around nice piece. The weak piece is the fragile Salacious Crumb.

Hot Toys could include some type of PERS, additional Jabba's palace creatures but would definitely not be cheaper.

Even if they do the PERS I still think the Sideshow one with multiple eyes and combinations will be the winner there. I really hope they leave Jabba alone and focus on other characters. I think the majority of people who are willing to put the money down on a Jabba probably own the Sideshow one already.

Forget moving eyes. I want SIMPS - Separately Integrated Moving Puppeteer System.

If Hot Toys can’t include the Puppeteers inside Jabba then what’s the point. Might as well just get the SSC.

Most SW properties have their potential troopers +variants, droids, cool outfits and jedi/creatures, so AOTC does have all that potential but not massively greater than most other properties.

I think the only explanation is that AOTC is Howard's soft spot for SW, coupled with that whiplash phenomenon of fans purging a ST bitter/divisive aftertaste by warmly embracing the PT just as several PT anniversaries came up.

Also I have a suspicion that TPM is going to get a huge push next year - yes jokes aside there will be a 1/6 JarJar - for the 25th (leading on into ROTS's 20th) so AOTC is establishing a bit of a 1/6 beachhead for a whole new massive arena of PT in 1/6.

Ahhh gotcha! That is true though, the amount of figures we got from that single film in one year was pretty surprising. Honestly, the only thing missing was AoTC Obi-Wan but they decided on General Kenobi and OW show Kenobi instead. I also see the TPM push next year, pretty sure that is when we'll get that B1 and STAP that is still being shown everywhere for some reason.

But that ROTS anniversary year...could be a problem for a lot of collector wallets. I'm already mentally preparing.

Been laughing for about ten minutes straight at this. Maybe they could also throw in Force Ghost Boba back there.

i know it’s boring but the thing im hoping for most from ROTJ is boba. I kinda want to do a display of him pre-sarlacc, 2 pack mando versions, and then “final form” from BOBF. the progression would look better with the red ROTJ gauntlets than the ESB version.

that’s also why i really hope they include that cool sarlacc base the last version had. seems like a write-in but you never know with hot toys.

I think I'm pretty much done with rotj unless there is a deluxe r2 with serving tray. The only other figure I would want would be Ackbar and hot toys hates aliens so he is out.

...if they aren't on the latest D+ show. They made Quiil, Grogu, Blurg, Tusken, Cad Bane and the Grand Inquisitor.
