This is a very good point. The New Republic is so incompetent and -- yes, evil -- as to be surreal. Are there real world examples for this? Yes, but this is not a competently realized, one-to-one map of real world geopolitics on to a complex and nuanced, monster-sized space opera. That's not what Star Wars is, no matter how many elements Lucas originally ripped off from 'Dune'.

And while it's true we didn't see the political structure of the Rebellion throughout the history of this franchise, there was nothing to indicate it was run by a corrupt and decadent oligarchy that didn't distinguish between the Empire's mechanized and brutal fascism vs. the grinding, inhuman bureaucracy they're showing it being replaced by.

Discounting the generals and admirals etc. for a minute -- political leaders and heroes of the Rebellion like Mon Mothma and Princess Leia of Alderaan were sidelined that easily? There's the post-modern cynicism creeping in again ... (in service of corporate shareholders) ... when did Star Wars become Game of Thrones? It just doesn't fit, IMO.

That kind of darkness works for Andor because it's a tangential, different kind of story focusing on espionage and insurgency; I love that show because it's well done and self-contained. I don't think that tone should be superimposed, retroactively no less, on to the Saga as a whole.

But hey, what do I know? I'm just a nerd on an action figure forum.
Yeah there's no way that this is the New Republic headed by Leia that George Lucas had in mind after ROTJ. This is tainting the legacy of the OT much moreso than anything that happened in the ST.

They expect us to believe that a single divorce of Han and Leia caused this entire turmoil lol

This is during their honeymoon period! Little Ben Solo is, like, four years old and has a bright future ahead of him!
Yeah, but that kinda makes the bumbling of the New Republic worse IMO, like where is the cynical Han, politically savvy Leia, Lando....
or in theory is Coruscant supposed to so stogy and full of bureaucrats they just assume it bumbles on without anyone in charge?

Suppose that's a reasonable "too big to fail" assumption. Maybe that's the reason for showing all the rich folks who weren't affected by any of it.

It makes absolutely no sense for the New Republic, which just came into existence, to be as flippant about empire reminants.

Well, MAYBE. Humans at least are remarkably elastic that way. People are wired to deal with acute stress, not chronic. So assuming even during the Clone Wars and the Empire's slaughters a lot of life trundled on - like Jyn Erso more or less said, you don't see it if you don't look up. With Palps and Vader gone, everyone can go back to their weekend barbecues.

While I'm sure even at conception, there was a privileged elite implied to exist (looking all the way back the original novelization of Star Wars where they referred to the Emperor as a ... was it a shut-in? Too far removed from reality while the senate did bad things or something to that effect?) ... the way this show characterizes them is very, very much of the current socio-political moment and maybe leans too far into it.

Well there's that.

Can't believe there's only 3 eps left. Really can't tell what this season has achieved so far beyond a few good battles.

Storywise it feels like we're somewhere between ep1 and ep2.
I reckon if you put together the best bits of each episode so far you may have a decent twenty minute episode to run.

I think Favreau is having the exact same problems Lucas had on the prequels, no one is willing to call him out on his b-s writing skills. He’s no writer.

If this is Favreau 'writing' -- LOL ... dude sucks.

This is Star Wars. The bar to clear is “I hate sand” and “Somehow Palpatine returned”.

Well, to be fair, there's a large number of fans that don't acknowledge the PT as "legitimate" and an even larger number of fans that don't consider the DT as legitimate, either.

The trailers sure did make this season seem a whole lot more epic than it's been so far.

We've certainly gotten some cool action sequences and dogfights etc, but not enough to make up for the thin underlying story. And I still have a hard time caring much about this boring Nevarro planet they keep returning to.

"I hope Luke wasn't on the 60% of that thing that got vaporized when it blew."

"He wasn't. I can feel it."
Dialogue has never been SW strong suit, I’m excluding Andor from this of course. But writing also involves skill in structure, plotting, character and Mando has none of this that I can see. Not anymore anyway.

I also don’t like the how the Rebellion have become like the standoffish typical government snobs that don’t care about helping other planets anymore. It’s like all the good that Leia and freedom fighters did has become an afterthought
I heard this was covered in some new canon books too. I haven't read them personally, but from what I read:
1. The Empire was so far reaching that there are thousands of systems under their control even after Palpatine was defeated.
2. The New Republic did not want to become just like the Empire (which forcefully took over Separatist worlds after the Clone Wars), so they allowed these worlds independence provided they are demilitarized.
3. The New Republic again over-corrected over what the Empire did and demilitarized almost completely. This is why in the ST they only had a small fleet left.
4. The same people running the New Republic are the same people that ran the Empire (same rich elite) so while there were policy changes under Mon, much of the attention still went to the core worlds leaving the mid rim and outer rim less supported.
5. This lack of military power and support lead the mid and outer rim relatively unprotected (as shown here in Mandalorian). The pirates were actually funded by sympathizers of the Empire to justify the funding of a new military that would become The First Order.

It's a plausible turn in the story IMO. Again, this is only from what I've heard from friends who read some of the books.

Sweetie, Leia flying through space without a pressure suit cannot be redeemed.

Haha to me that was not the worst of it though, since floating off in space without a pressure suit is not an insta-kill scenario.

You could survive a few seconds in a vacuum. Long enough for her to plausibly force-pull herself back into the ship. There is at least 1 documented case where in NASA where someone accidentally lost pressure in his suit in a vacuum chamber. He lasted 15 secs before losing consciousness and it took 25-30 secs for someone to come aid him:

Yes this is true, and was used to great effect in 2001: A Space Odyssey when Hal locks David Bowman off the main ship and his only way back on involves about 10-15 seconds in vacuum. As I recall that was a very unpleasant experience that almost got him killed.

Here we got Leia zooming around all blissful-like, as if she were just taking in the sights. Okay.

My thoughts when I saw Leia in TLJ was "Now that is Anakin's daughter". I was surprised and continue to be surprised at the hyperbolic hysteria that this scene created. Just my opinion.
I would not call it hyperbolic hysteria.

Its more like..... This. We were not even mad. Just scornful.
