Oh, I've no problem with Snyder's deconstruction or his take on the characters, I think it's brilliant. But there are things that need to be ironed out in BvS (yes, even the Ultimate Edition, which is the only one to watch IMHO) and ZSJL. Nothing major really. For me 300 is the best example of Snyder's skills and vision working perfectly to tell the story. Didn't work so well for me in Watchmen, I think BvS is by far the superior movie.
On the other hand, Snyder's latest zombie-flick was pretty mediocre.

Yeah, AotD did nothing for me. But I’m not into that genre to begin with. Although I was surprised at how much I enjoyed World War Z several years ago.

Anyway, Zack’s take on Watchmen is really fascinating to me. I’m trying to write an essay on it that is really proving difficult to reign in. He’s clear that there was initially studio interference to try to make it a traditional superhero film! He explained to the execs, no, that that’s not what the Watchmen comic is—it’s a deconstruction. And he basically says that after he was well into making the film they finally accepted that and let him do what he wanted. But then he says that the film is basically a satire of the superhero genre! I think that sense of it being “satire” arises from the compromise he was forced to make from the start.

Knowing how WB operates, I think it was compromised by the studio from the getgo. And Snyder was having to figure out how to fit in subversive deconstruction themes. To make it look like a sleek, sexy standard pop culture superhero film and sneak those themes in, basically. However at the end of the day Snyder does want us to be able to love superheroes after deconstructing them (unlike Alan Moore who dismisses superhero mythology as childish fantasy escapism). So the fact that he gave Watchmen’s superheroes a “cool” factor belongs to that basic project of legitimizing superhero mythology even after deconstructing it.

You've just reminded me of a video essay I watched years ago which touches upon the points you've raised.

The author considers ZS's handicap in adapting this specific Graphic Novel to be the fact that he simply can't help himself from making everything look cool and epic when Moore's depiction of the 'hoeroes' is intended to depict them as pathetic, embarassing, delusional, corny or psychotic wierdos.

The whole thing is an interesting watch- if I remember correctly- but the section that conttemplates Snyder's misunderstaning of the material begins at 09.58 so it may further inform you.

I’m pretty sure I’ve watched this one, and I’ve seen a bunch that make this basic assertion. I’ll watch (or rewatch probably) this one later today. Thanks for sharing it!

I don’t think it’s a gross misunderstanding on Snyder’s part. I think Snyder really does understand what Moore was doing with Watchmen! He’s given plenty of interviews that show that.

I think he’s captivated by Joseph Campbell’s the hero’s journey concept. He’s undertaking the deconstruction project of “What would it look like if superheroes were real? What problems would it cause? Would their existence actually be a good thing? Is it something we would really even want?” For Alan Moore the answer is a resounding no. But for Snyder looking through the lens of the archetypal psychological meaning of superhero mythology, the answer is it’s okay to appreciate and value what superheroes represent.

I'll probably have to watch Watchmen again, but I suspect that Snyder's true love and reverence for the superhero genre outweighs any other consideration or intent on his part. Not saying that he doesn't want to pose those more profound questions, but when you see how he presents these characters, it's almost with reverence. I mean, the shot of Aquaman standing on the boat in the middle of the storm... that is how a puny human looks up to a god. And Snyder really wants to show these beings through such a lens.
I've not seen any director manage to truly show that epic quality of the "meta-humans".

Its why the aspect ratio for that movie was important for that movie. He wanted them to look larger than life.

Yes! And I think Zack actually arrives at a radically different conclusion than Alan Moore does with Watchmen. He’s saying it’s okay to unabashedly love superheroes even after deconstructing them. When I complete the essay I’ll share it.

Even if Cyborg is total baddazz in the film I'm still passing on this
I have all the JL figs except Cyborg. Not really a fan. I feel a little bad I'm not representing them all, but I gotta be me. I'm not shelling out 250 for a figure I don't want just to complete the team.

I ordered one of these for Knightmare Cyborg. It turned out quite well. It took two weeks to arrive.

looks good mate
ive had that in my watch list for ages ,just never got around to buying it

is that the dc statue off base ,you thought of customising it

this guy did it with one of those chrome pens the finish looks good ,hes the guy i bought this from ,he claimed it was one of the few that made it out from that custom run that never panned out a year or so back lol

where in reality i think it was the one in the video he cut up and articulated lol

not bad but still not worth what i paid for it lol

the pens are on amazon uk about 8 quid if you feel the need to give it a go ,the chrome finish has a nice reflective quality ive not seen with paint

Yeah, it's the statute with the base removed.

I did think of doing these mods to my original DC Collectibles. When the Hot Toys was announced I sold him.

I had the plan to get one of these cheap once the Hot Toys comes out but I was skimming through Facebook Marketplace the other day and I managed to get Cyborg, Superman and Batman for £115. I always regretted selling the tactical Batman.
I sold Superman for £130 on eBay, put Batman in my office at work and this Cyborg is going to be shortened slightly and repainted when I can compare him directly to the Hot Toys one and he's going at the back of the Knightmare team with the cloak on.
That paint does look spot on though, thanks for the tip!

That does look cool, how well is he articulated?

wow great deal on those

not terribly well articulated in truth
shoulders, arms ,hips knees and head

swappable head and arms

here's the crap that hooked me from the original ebay listing lol

s-l1600 (4).jpg

it has a light up head chest and lower arm gun thingy
powered by a pad that he stands on with a phone charger as a power source

yeah mine is also destined for a cape and a spot in the knightmare team eventually

one of my justifications for buying him lol

yeah that pen is a miracle looks like vac formed chrome finish

i've a super powers cyborg recast done with it that's pretty much indistinguishable from my original

definitely worth a shot

Nice- now, who can identify the big ol' gun that pops out from under his cloak in the KM scene?

Hmm, it does look familiar but I can't quit place it... Would it be the style of Krytonian warship gun (Zod's faction) that attempts to bring down Kal El's ship as it takes off from Krypton? That's just a guess. I know I could check, lol. Funner this way.

It's a M134 minigun. If you're gonna use any gun to try and somewhat suppress Superman it's probably your best best.

I've asked a 3D printer on eBay that does a 1/32 scale version with the suppressor and ammo box if they can do it in 1/6.

Just had a look now and appears to be an M134 minigun with a flash suppressor. The M134 is easy enough to get the suppressor might have to be printed.

I purchased that mini gun for a different project several years ago. They are all over eBay. Could probably get them for even cheaper.

Some assembly required, but nothing too difficult I don't think from memory.

Nice. That’s the one I’ve been eying up already. Glad it’s correct super easy to acquire. Shame about the suppressor but I can live without it.
