Sorry for mixing Lego and vintage Kenner…I just need more space for display. (Just a small taste of what I have for Star Wars) :)

Been on a prequel mood lately and wanted to display the captains and commanders.

About Cody:

Holy crap, first time unboxing him after having stored away for a long time and his right shoulder broke. Didn’t have any spare true types hanging around and decided to strip a random first order trooper (could NOT give any flying ****s about them) to do a body swap.

Not as simple as it sounds since Cody’s right arm has that swappable forearm and his gauntlet doesn’t come off.

SO, I had to unscrew the shoulder joint that connects to the body and do a Frankenstein with his arm, and now he is a functioning figure again.

The entire process was not fun.

Anyway, IMO, the SSC clones Rex and Wolf hold up. A body swap with tighter joints would instantly make them superior to HT clones because:

1-way cheaper.
2-had way more accessories like the much appreciated bent foot for posing.
3-still looks pretty good to my eyes.

The SSC Morrison portraits suck…but yknow what? I don’t think the HT sculpts are accurate either. HT nailed Morrison with BOBF figures. So helmets stay on for all.

To each their own but I think the Hot Toys Clone sculpt are some of the best they’ve done. Only thing that really feels off is Rex’s hairline.

General consensus seems to be that they’re all pretty great.

I still have a number of Sideshow Clone and agree that they’ve held up well over the years. The later ones especially.

Still have their Phase 2 Rex too. But the Hot Toys one just feels more like a real person and the paint and weathering is leagues better. Might be worth thinking about getting one since he’s regularly on sale.

The HT portraits are nicely sculpted…but likeness IMO was weak. Made more apparent by their most recent efforts I.e BOBF Fett and 1/4 BOBF fett.

Im aware that the previous sculpts are liked…I just don’t see it yknow?

As for Rex, I do recognize that technically the HT one is better in that the craftsmanship and feel are better and it isn’t as floppy as the SSC one…but me personally not being a fan of the portrait and lack of “useful” accessories, I wasn’t hyped for it at all and am pretty content with the SSC one. Not to mention I much prefer the SSC visor.

I missed out on SSC’s Cody which is why I got the HT one. The fact I had bad luck with it bummed me the hell out and regret missing out on SSC’s. If that one broke I wouldn’t be as upset since SSC’s clones cost roughly $120 or less, give or take.

I think the likeness is definitely there. They just capture him at different ages. Only Morrison sculpt that's on the weaker side is Jango. I also don't see as much of him in the 1/4 TBOBF figure though personally.

The 1/6 Mando sculpts are fantastic if that's what you meant (since the 1/6 TBOBF version doesn't have a sculpt). But age and facial scarring always help to bring up a likeness since the defined features are easier to capture.

But yeah, everyone is different so I get it.

Well, if it makes you feel any better I think you are better off with the HT Cody than the SSC despite the bad arm. Phase 2 Rex and Wolffe benefit from being at the tail end of their run but Cody was a much earlier figure. Still have it, but it does not hold up nearly as well as those two do.

I dont know. Now that I have one of the SSC clone heads in hand, theres a certain charm to them. There is a likeness to Morrison there, its just.... different.

Charm yes; especially the later ones. More of an animated style caricature than real likeness. But I like them for what they are.

Derp! Sorry, yeah, mando fett! 🤣

I’m losing track of this stuff.

I get what you mean with regards to SSC Cody and HT Cody…it’s just…an almost $300 figure breaking right out of the box yo…it hurts man…

😂the charm is trying to give CGI models a “realistic” sculpt to look more like Morrison. I appreciate the attempt…but yeah, it was uh…kinda rough.

Yeah, looking at them As caricatures makes them more acceptable IMO.
