Going to Imax tonight super excited this just might be our TGM and TB of 2023 maybe even both combined :panic:

I might have to change my Avatar to Year of the Wo :panic:

KR is almost 60! :thud:
Wasn’t it just a year or so ago that you said you had not even watched any of these films and really had not interest ??

I’m so glad you came around you gave them a shot! :)

These are easily the best action films coming out to theaters now.

I am ashamed to admit that I finally watched 1-2-3 last freaking weekend can you believe it! :slap

I really enjoyed them especially 3 that was absolutely my favorite!

3 looked SICK on my OLED!

I’ve yet to see this one.. Going tomorrow. I have become a big fan of these films which is weird cause I only kinda liked the first one ( the villain getting over the top weird at the end was off putting) Part 2 I was disappointed with my first viewing. Thought there were too many people with guns just running up to JW to be shot in the face.

Then I decided to watch them both again before the 3rd came out and I fell in love. Fully enjoyed both, flaws and all. Love part 3 also.

Was worried about part 4 but the reviews have me hyped :)

Well welcome to The Continental Jye :)

I thought you had avoided these. It stuck with me cause I thought they seemed like your kind of films.

3 might be my fav also. More straight up classic martial arts in it. Did not hurt that some of the Raid films alumni’s were in it also :)

Yeah the 4k of 3 is amazing

Actually let me clarify.

I did watch 1 on Blu-ray maybe a year after it came out in theaters and while I thought it was good I wasn’t blown away by it either.

Fast forward to last weekend and I finally watched all 3 back to back and I couldn’t stop I was floored.

Read my other post above. Seems like our viewing experience of the JW films was similar

Just got back from watching it. I like it more than John Wick 3. I'm not sure where I rank it, but I do like it more than JW3.

The good

Visually, it's amazing. Every shot is amazingly crafted, the lighting to the set designs, it might be the best-looking action film ever and just a great looking film period.

The costumes are nice to look at too.

The set pieces and locations.

All the new characters are cool and entertaining.

It doesn't feel like a 3 hour film.

Great overall action and choreography as expected.

There's a James Bond/ The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly vibe to it.

The Bad

Like previous films, some of the action and fighting can get repetitive.

There's no scene or sequences that top the great action sequences from the previous films.

John Wick and the other characters are completely impervious to physical damage. Far beyond anything in the previous films, except for maybe the JW3 falling off the building scene.

The Ugly

It felt like a video game at times. Speaking of which, there's an amazing video game like sequence so it wasn't so bad. It was creative and visually great.

The film and story do not deliver what was promised at the end of JW3. If anything, this film and story has a lot more in common with Matrix sequels.

So for those that have seen it; how does it compare to the original?

I adore the first, think the second is solid and the third is poor.
I saw it last night, and I still prefer one, then two, then a gap to four, and then three.

I did enjoy it (7/10), but some of the minion fights went on for too long as countless hordes of nobodies get dispatched, and there were too many time when things that would kill a normal person had almost no impact. It's definitely worth watching as there are some brilliant scenes, and the end fight is excellent.

:thud: :thud: :thud: :thud:

OMG the fights.

Where to even begin there is a lot to unpack.

Definitely the best of the 4 but with some caveats though.

Obviously the main complaint everyone has with 4 is that JW is now indestructible and to that I say this.

You have to walk into these movies especially this one which out of the 4 comes the closest to spelling out that the high table is not just a Mafia they are literally the world governments CIA illuminati type stuff and yes JW is a government created Winter Soldier / Cap super soldier with even Ghost in the Shell type narrative.

There I solved that complaint for you lol

Wait you say you need evidence from the movies to back up my claim well look no further than the police and FBI never ever getting involved and the society at large even ignoring the public fighting because they know there’s nothing they can do about it they treat it like the IRS it’s just there.

Anyways first let me say that the gun battle audio and visuals in HEAT has finally been outdone.

This movie officially has the best cinematic gun battle and officially is the best use of low bass in cinema history.

Also best stabbing death scene ever!

There are simply no words to properly describe how the bass and gunshots sounded in this movie.

The punch sounds when the movie opens and the techno bass at the German club will put a huge smile on your face.

Yes the movie was a great marriage of Bond and Spaghetti western along with some Superhero and Videogame influences.

Osaka, German techno club and overhead house battle were my favorite parts mind blowing enjoyed it way more than the France circle part honestly.

Let me bring up those caveats shall I.

For starters I was not a fan of the tracker guy. They should’ve just cut him out of the entire movie. It would’ve saved some time he was pointless and useless not even cool looking.

Because we’ve never met Donnie’s character before in the series I could not buy into the relationship and history Donnie said they had it rang hollow to me.

Donnie was good but I think slightly over hyped. My favorite role of his remains HERO.

I rather did not enjoy ugly grey France. It was not visually striking as the neon lights from part 3.

Even the German club needed more color it was too far grayscale although the water part was insanely cool looking.

See it immediately in the best screen possible, the sounds will blow you away best ever :thud:

Final Thoughts:

Best action movie ever made!

There I said it.

That Osaka / overhead house battle scene OMG!

Shocking Surprise Ending!

This movie needs to win an Oscar for something, i’m not kidding.

:rock :rock :rock

Osaka, bonkers Frogger gun battle around the fountain and overhead room to room sequences were my faves.

My son said that he "felt" the gunshots just like firing a real weapon at the shooting range and was extremely disappointed to learn that rapid fire "flamethrower shotguns" don't really exist, lol.

Cinematography at the beginning of the final duel was some of the best ever in an action film.
