I don't mean this in a pejorative sense, having interacted with you a lot, but wow, it's like we watched two different things. Our opinion aligns in very broad strokes as I said: "I think it's aping the quieter tone and psychological sketches, but it's very clumsy in direct comparison."

But you really think it's reasonably well done ... huh. Very well then. You seem to be giving it a pass on context.
Hmmm, no, I don't think so....but without going through scene by scene, I'll leave it at - for what they were doing, I thought it was well done - if not what I was expecting to watch.

Meaning that you pointed out it's a different show with a different style, but yeah.

Not a bad take -- I read it as them

Exactly. In a way I would compare it very loosely to the Ahsoka episode, which for me also had a different aesthetic and tone to what I would *generally* expect from this show - which, again loosely, would be more like Episode 2, or the Krait dragon episode - if I had to generalize the Mandalorian.

This episode more, to me, like a slow burn mystery where something is off. Maybe. But you're not sure until the end. :snake There's a lot I appreciated.

Without feeling the raging need to watch again, or at least until things start coming to a focal point. At the moment tho I feel confident that Favreau, with long experience with knowing comic book films need that big end, is gonna do that, and is leaving bread crumbs all over the place. Which for me is fun.:banana

Of course, there was that IMO not that interesting fight at the end of IM2, and then the lack-of-expression faces of the animals in Lion King:stake, so until this series is over, I won't know if I stayed happy or not. I trust no director, showrunner, or writer at this point.😁

(Look, I own TFA Rey and Kylo. I was convinced after TFA there would be a new era of SW and Finn's arc, among others, would be epic.:monkey2 People like me get sucked in, and then a showrunner eats some gummy candy or whatever:monkey3 and all of a sudden Palps is getting reconstituted from space dust.)

I guess I am just hoping for there to be a point either in this series or the Ahsoka series where the Star Wars story can "end" in a way without necessitating the

in the form of loose ends and unresolved plot points.

Much like how Return of the Jedi "ends" the Star Wars story in a neat way, despite stories existing beyond that time in the form of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, etc. You could watch Return of the Jedi and never watch any of the subsequent Star Wars movies/TV series and still feel like the story has come to a neat and natural conclusion. Sure, there are some good stories to be told beyond that point in Mando, TBOBF, Ahsoka (we will see), but the conclusion in Return of the Jedi exists by itself and serves as a satisfying conclusion. You don't feel the "need" to watch any subsequent media to follow up any plot points because Return of the Jedi leaves nothing unresolved or at a loose end.

I am hoping that there can be such an ending at some point in the coming series, one where you could (if you wanted to) draw a line under things in a satisfying way...

Bo is once again the highlight in this episode.
I gather from the comments her and Din are only at the start of the episode and the rest is following someone else? I'll watch this episode later today. Try to keep an open mind with it but I'm not exactly dying to watch it.

I can't imagine how anyone can compare that segment to Andor as an equivalent. It's like Favreau or whoever tried to mimic Andor with crayons on their juice and cookies break. It's a laughably poor copy at best.
I believe the Andor comparisons are simply referring to the fact this episode was more of a talky character study, while also ditching some of the action and fancy vistas/creatures for a large chunk of the episode. Quality, it's not...

To be honest, whatever the end game is, it looks like an over-elaborate plan right now regardless. I *am* interested to see which it is.

You take this bait & switch and love it.

Episode is also a reminder of how much of a missed opportunity the new republic is in this disney canon. Nothing interesting to see here except people laughing about how the empire has been defeated, and getting pompous and seeing themselves as protected.

This doesn't work in the way the prequels do. At all. This is just pure incompetence which is extremely uninteresting. Disarming knowing that empire remnants still exist makes literally no sense.

Starts and ends with them, middle is something else.

That's the perfect way to say it; it's something else, alright! What is was, I'm not exactly sure, but definitely something else.

Can anyone tell me why she was so nasty toward him? Was he the reason Giddeon fell? I can't even remember, and have lost any interest in going back to watch season 1 & 2 these days :(

Why did they "lose" their names as well? It seemed like a worse regime to be under than the Empire??? All surface level niceties where everyone didn't want to offend anyone, yet everyone felt like lifeless robots. Bizarre. Is it a social commentary on where we're heading these days?

(And yes ZE, my comparison was definitely surface level as well :ROFLMAO: )
