I know Disco has its haters (no idea in Heaven why), but the fact that Saru is still available for immediate purchase on the EXO site is criminal malfeasance.

That figure is a work of art…

I think it happens with every new series. TNG, VOY, DS9, ENT (Especially Enterprise, OUCH) all had a lot of vitriol aimed at it. TNG - "Picard is a wuss! Why the hell do they have a counselor on the bridge? The ship looks like a hotel! They're just copying TOS plots!" DS9 - "It's not even a Federation station! Everyone hates each other! It's too dark! They just wait for people to boldly come to them!" VOY - "It's Star Trek meets Lost in Space! The episodes are too self-contained! THey blow up too many shuttlecrafts! Neelix is annoying! Kes is useless!" And on and on and on. Until they finally killed the series with Enterprise.

So some day there will be people lamenting that we didn't get more Disco characters. Perhaps the same ones complaining about Disco right now, who knows? It's laughable, really.

There’s a number of figures available for immediate purchase so not really a phenomenon limited to Saru, perhaps they overestimated demand. People will buy what they’re most connected to.

I personally gave the show a chance over a number of seasons. I found the support cast more intriguing and interesting (Lorca, Pike) vs. the actual core crew who were largely forgettable and the writing seemed very dumbed down, hence the f-bombs and high-school vibes. It didn’t strike me as being edgy, but rather lazy.

When it comes to the modern era, Strange New Worlds and Prodigy is more to my liking, overall likeable characters who seemingly play an equal role in the story vs. being centred around a single “messiah” character and storytelling that raises the bar more akin to the golden era of the 90s. One thing about that time was that those shows generally left you with a thought provoking message or moral dilemma. Just my two cents.

The Saru figure is very well done but I have zero connection to the series.

As much as I’d like to argue with you, and bring up examples where just about every Trek lead has been a “Messiah” figure too many times to count, connection is connection and it either works for you or it doesn’t with no judgement. What works for me might not for you.

Cheers!

Check your belts if you're using them. My Saru's belt just fell off all of a sudden. Looks like the glue they used wasn't very strong. Gonna need to buy some super glue.

Oh and the uniform stained the lower part of the head sculpt.

I think this is the same old prototype Nanjin has shown off before. Or at least I hope it is. Head sculpt misses the mark, IMO.

Even though I like the Anson Mount portrayal of Captain Pike I think I’m going to pass on him. Need to draw a line somewhere and overall I don’t like new Trek enough to commit to figures.

His Pike is fine, if a little too glib at times for me, but I actually enjoy their Spock and could buy into the bearded pre-Enterprise and SNW versions, just as counter balance to the Nimoy Spocks I will have shortly.

Agreed, needs some minor tweaking, maybe it’s the angle.

Odd choice to release this version of Pike vs. SNW which IMO has the better uniform without the black collar.

I’ll hold out for the SNW release which will inevitably come along with Spock.

Agree about the glibness, which is why I actually preferred his portrayal on DSC more than SNW, since he came across a bit more serious and intense there. So that would probably be my main reason for wanting to pick up this figure, even if I don't like the uniform nearly as much.

With Discovery ending with season 5 next year, I hope that we can get the latest uniformed looks for at least Burnham and Saru. Saru should be an easy redo considering they've only got to work on the costume now that they've got all the hands and head.

Nanjin has been teasing the prospect of a Captain Georgiou figure again today, I passed on Saru (though he looks great) and sold Burnham on as if I were to own her I would rather a version to join the Captains lineup.

I'd still like to have the Discovery uniform reflected in my collection, not to mention I would enjoy having a representation of Michelle Yeoh on my shelf. Part of the reason I sold Burnham was that Nanjin had mentioned Georgiou previously and theres too many Star Trek figures to pick and choose from to have multiple from a show which while I don't dislike is lower down on my priority list.

That will be my lot from the earlier seasons of Discovery, the blue and gold will pop on the shelf (more so than the silver) compared to the others, plus a legendary actress, and while I still want a Mount version of Pike Im going to hold out for the SNW figure.

Love how we all have different opinions on which version of the character we want… luckily Nanjin wants to try to put both to market so the choice is ours.

He’s said the Captain figure will be a limited immediate release, I wonder if that will be the same for the Emperor too? Kind of assume she will be along with the likes of DSC Pike and Kruge from TSFS.

No interest in this one but the costume does look sharp, definitely has shelf presence.
