My apologies! I saw people talking about a hat included with Gollum and/or Smeagol and assumed it was the fabric Gandalf the Grey hat that Asmus said they were going to include with Gollum and/or Smeagol.

They said that, didn't they?

And for those of you who have already received Gollum and/or Smeagol, it DOESN'T come with a fabric Gandalf the Grey hat?

The hat that most don’t like is the fabric hat. They made a molded hat to replace the fabric hat. That is the one they are including in some sets.

Kind of surprised the hate around this guy. Asmus shall we say is not the best company out there. But this is a quality and dare I say it innovative release.

The paint looks really weak by the photos but they don’t pick up the subtly that is there in person and all the photos look washed out. Make no mistake it’s better than the NECA and better than most 1/6 things on the market. Certainly not a McDonalds toy.

Having said that I did quite a lot of work on mine, but far less work than any other asmus. It does not have a completely different custom head added to it for example and that is saying a lot because I’m pretty sure all of my other asmus figures have been replaced.

Where the paint lacks is detail around the face. You see how I enhanced mine but I wish I could go further shade the ears and under eyes for example but the surface and texture of the plastic doesn’t really hold paint well

After my fix ups my only real gripe are the unsightly wrist pegs, seam at the back of the head and the atrociously stupid and massive fail of a design that are the rolling eyeballs system.

The biggest issue is that I think the rubber on the torso ain’t gonna last. The paint is already peeling and I had to touch it up

Surprisingly I really dig the base too. I don’t care about thst stuff but it’s small enough and i really enjoy the water with the little fish in it.

If those Queen figures don’t come out looking like crap I’d say out of the box you could put this, the ACI Ringwraith and maybe a handful of lesser asmus characters that don’t have human heads and have a respectable right out of the box LOTR collection. That’s more than I can say about other lines namely three zero whos track record is mediocre to poor a hair under asmus and even star ace I’d wager.

Asmus has made a lot of characters and I’m grateful for that because I’ve been able to put together good customs based off of many of them as a base but yeah… they are not the best company. But what I really appreciate about them is that they do try and they do listen to their customers.

I just hope I get mine- can’t find the order on their new site can’t get in touch with them through email or FB messenger. Asmus if you’re still on here please help me know my order still exists!

This looks....okay. The loincloth looks to be the worst part, looks like a rigid piece of slightly bendable vinyl with no detail. They should have just used cloth. I'd like to see some more pics in more flattering light, if anyone's able. I still haven't received my invoice or shipping notice from Asmus but I was assured in November that they have my order on file. I'm a bit apprehensive about getting this and InArt or someone else coming out with a better one in a year or two, but I guess that's the risk inherent to this hobby.

I don't think InArt has The Two Towers license so we're definitely a lot further away than a year or two.

All the Jokers aren't even out yet, Legolas still isn't up for pre-order, still haven't seen anything for Dune or Harry Potter. And I'm going to place a bet that they'll make Boromir before moving on to another film based on the reception for Aragorn and Gandalf.

This is obviously just my two cents but I think would it's going to be a minimum 5 years before InArt announces a Smeagol, if they do so at all, so if anyone wants the character in their collection, this is the way to go.

Is there a way to "dig out" the wrist peg hole so the ball joint will sit lower into the forearm?

It is my biggest gripe on an otherwise nice figure. Also, the misalignment of the eyes due to replacing the head sounds unfortunate.

Would love to see someone post a picture of Gollum with another Asmus LOTR figure just for scale... and maybe with Frodo too.

Sadly, I'm scaling my LOTR display way back, so a character like Gollum will likely not make the cut unless he's just fantastic.

Totally agree.

InArt has a BUNCH of other high profile licenses. Which means we probably shouldn't expect them to go very deep on characters here. Maybe a couple a year, tops? They have the luxury to pick and choose only the best sellers. Much as I'm a HUGE LotR fan, I just doubt Gollum would ever make their list.

It took Asmus a decade (more?) to get to Gollum and they're ALL IN on the license. (We've gotta be over 40 figures deep by this point?) There are just SO many other figure options from these movies to pick from that don't require so much additional engineering and development.

So while I might have some reservations on this figure (at least until I get him in hand), I feel like this might be the best option we'll see for a while.

Surprised to see that people are not feeling like gollum is a top character.

If you ask me what are the most iconic LOTR characters in this order I would go…

Gandalf, Frodo, Gollum and then Aragorn.

That’s the Mount Rushmore IMO. The rest of the characters trail after those 4

You're not wrong. I just have a different Mount Rushmore in mind.

Nice! Those are the exact four characters I have/will be getting in 1/6 for my LotR shelf!

I wouldn't put him on my Mount Rushmore, personally.

I think everyone can agree that Gandalf, Aragorn and Frodo are not debatable on a LOTR Rushmore.

My fourth would go to Samwise and I wouldn't think twice about it. In fact, I'm so committed to Samwise there that if someone put a gun to my head and said I HAD to put Gollum on it, I would take Frodo off and not Sam.

We really should be calling it Mount Doom, not Mount Rushmore...

Anyway, interesting to see all these "Mt. Rushmore" collections -- whittling the LOTR down to Top 4 display pieces.

My Mount really has a Top 5 (I cannot do 4) --

Frodo and Gandalf... and then the three hunters: Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli

Does Asmus use HiTrustPay.com? Getting emails from them seeking payment to Asmus for Gollum/Sméagol. Don’t recall ordering, but if I did it would have been long enough ago that I no longer recall.

Samwise didn't carry another person barefoot up a volcano after not eating for days just to not make it into your top five.
