‘AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER’ is the first film since ‘AVATAR’ to be #1 at the box office for 7 weekends.

It's almost as if the MCU never existed at all. :chase

…except for the MCU’s success making it possible for Disney to now own Cameron lol…
Not entirely true. Disney was working with Cameron back when the MCU was still young. Before the MCU was making the billion dollar movies they do now.

Really? I didn’t realize that Disney had their claws on JC that early on. They really are a monster. I’d insert a Tommy Lee Jones gif from The Fugitive, but I just boarded a flight and it’ll never load lol.

Someone else may know a exact date, but Disney broke ground on Pandora at Animal Kingdom back in 2014, so he had to be working with them before that at least.

Disney and the Maverick. It's like the ultimate Odd Couple.

I'm going to love how this relationship ends up. It will not end well.
Well they already refused to allow the IW and EG discs to have IMAX aspect ratios despite the Russo Brothers begging them to include them and they denied Cameron's Alita discs from having the same so apparently they don't give two craps about how big a movie is or who the directors are if they can save some bucks and point people to Disney+.

Yeah, I'm sure the relationship will get strained for all kinds of reasons.

With the success of Avatar 2, I imagine the Cameron asks have just doubled at least. Disney doesn't like to bend over if its just to spend more money.

It's true. Back in the days of summer movies you were lucky to have two weeks without a new major tentpole movie challenging you for the Number 1 slot.

Those days are long gone though.

Great time to make your own fantasy/adventure movie out of your own millions and release it. You'll likely be No 1 for many, many weeks.

A lot of time here is spent discussing one particular shot, but the latter half of the video covers several other workflows Weta figured out for the movie.

From a technical standpoint, this is nothing short of incredible. I wish the story were more interesting, but Weta has certainly nailed down the FX component. Their water sim (and apparently it's all one sim that can recreate a bunch of different behaviors) is unreal.
