Hello there mates.
I'm considering buying Boromir 2.0, but have a good offer on a 1.0 rooted one (MISB).
How does the new headsculpt stack up against the older one & against Sean Bean?
I am also very worried about buying the older version, on which any rubberized or pleather part might have deteriorated or be about to start to deteriorate (belt, blue coat). Those of you owning the first release, how are your units holding up?
Thx every1.

I'd take the good offer on the 1.0... better (IMO) all the way around (except maybe for the ankles).
Mine has absolutely no aging problems... different peoples mileage may vary.

Rooted V1 will more than suffice- especially given that V2 isn't actually an improvement. If you can get a V1 for cheaper than V2 then I say go for it.

Yeah, V1 may not be a great likeness of Bean, but V2 isn't any better in my opinion. Nobody's really captured him that I've seen. (The 3Z Ned Stark isn't great and I've got a couple Weta statues that don't get much closer.) I was hopeful for this upgrade - particularly after GtW - but at least from the pictures I've seen, sadly V2 seems like a bit of a miss.

For what it's worth, I really like my V1. If you trim a few hairs at the front so they hang in his eyes and make sure to tuck some behind his ears, you can get him looking pretty good.

I really liked my V1 (rooted) so didn't consider V2 at all.

No issue with the materials, either.

As Chopper Face mentioned, if you can get it for a good deal, jump on it.

Thanks to all of you for your input, fellas.
I forgot to add that I already have a real chainmail shirt to fix the one on v2 or v1, and also a Commomwealth hs that I intend one day to shave/repaint/root myself (thx for the styling tips, Bucky). It is the best Sean Bean ever thus far & I have seen wonders made with it. Since I will eventually have to learn to do leather replacements for all the brown pleather that is eventually going to rot in my collection, boots on Boromir are also not that vital in the long run, even though split boots on v2 are cool to have. I didn't know they were split. Thanks for the tip, bros.

So, there is only the blue fine plastic Gondorian coat that seems impossible to fix if it breaks, right? That is why getting v2 might be the best option in the long term: it might last longer.

As for the belt, it seems made of thick rubberized plastic, right?
Question would now bem whether this belt will decay or not long term. What do you guys think?
Thx again!

@asgardianboy If you don’t want to worry about pleather deteriorating, stop buying figures with pleather and buy statues.

If you don’t want statues bc you want to pose or whatever then you’re stuck with what’s out there.

No one can tell you if/how/when something in your environment will last. Depends on a bunch of variables - where you live, humidity levels, how often are you touching them etc. At the end of the day, if a part deteriorated, send it to geewiz or whoever, spend a few hundred bucks and you can get it made of real leather. Or learn to do it yourself, which you said you want to do. Just enjoy them. It’s not worth worrying when each and every part will turn to dust.

I had the same worries when I started collecting, I bought extra outfits and everything. I think I have 2 spare dusters for Aragorn lol. And none of my figures had any Issues I worried about and now, fast forward a few years and I’m planning on selling all my 1/6 figures. Funny how that works out lol.

At first I am happy we got a reissue and an “improved” Boromir. I preordered because I was missing out and planning to get all the fellowship. With all being the same except the head and boots. Now the head is a bit different, with the weird big ears, and what I hate the most is the freaking fish scale for chainmail. Wtf it’s not some futuristic Batman armor body suit. They said it’s not the same method like preorders before. We will get the figure like it was advertised. But it is still different. So what now? We can only accept it? With other companies using real chainmail for their knights figure, it’s a proof they can be used and manufactured. Or at least you use the chainmail fabric LIKE YOU ADVERTISED. I don’t like those fish scale chainmail.

I am worried, and I plan accordingly. I like articulation. I hate statues.
You mean your Asmus Aragorn outer coat is holding up ok? I have read posts from other people that tell quite the contrary (has anyone else read those?). Isn't that a good reason to worry about plastic coats decaying?
Hey Bilbo, why are you selling all your stuff, after so much efforts to get them in the 1st place? I'm both sad to see you go & curious about why such a change.

You say the ears are too big? I can't draw that conclusion from the marketing materials. Any comparison you could point out to me?
I agree that Asmus has breached the contract: marketing pictures clearly show a normal chainmail jacket. What you get is far removed from that, and no fine print can save them from that. Mr Asmus should now chime in & apologize. Asmus is too hit-&-miss these days.
Thx.

Like he said before, it varies depending on the conditions of where you live.
I'm in the UK so it's cold and grey and damp. My pleather items hold up pretty well. My Slim Strider has no damage. My Boromir has no damage and I can't image anything bad happenning with the belt or any other part of the costume.
However, people in warmer, drier or humid climates may just be staring at a pile of flakes on their shelf by now.

@asgardianboy I have zero issues with any figure that I have. Asmus or HT.

not going anywhere. I love 1/6 figures and I’m always interested in checking what’s coming out. I simply don’t have the space and budget for collecting figures and statues and I prefer my weta stuff over everything else I collect. Don’t want to derail the thread any further. Good luck!

The chainmail thing really bothers me too. I had a sculpted V1 - was never impressed with the likeness but the rest of the figure was very nice. When Asmus announced the re-released with an upgraded sculpt, I figured it would be perfect - no way they could mess up the sculpt when it was the only thing changing, right? I ended up selling my V1 Boromir to help pay for the V2. So I intended to buy it no matter what, but that chainmail downgrade really just makes me angry.

I know Asmus is on hiatus with this sponsorship situation. Who know if they'll be back. But man, I'd really like some answers. That really sucks.

So, can this new status rules situation be fixed? Because it would be an actual loss not to have proper communication and teasers from you.

It's not a new rule as such. It's been a rule since the current owners bought the site that business accounts must be sponsors in order to promote their product, discuss their product, answer questions from customers and potential customers, etc, etc.

Some companies fell between the cracks in the system, thereby gaining an unfair advantage over those who opted to pay to maintain the privileges permitted by sponsorship. The playing field is simply being levelled according to the law.

Just here to clearfy that we are more than happy to pay for the right price to keep our presence alive.

We paid for the premium membership because we thought it was the right way to support the forum, never was I told that we need to be a business account.

:(

Have highlighted this message for Admin attention. Hopefully the situation can be resolved soon.

That's what I mean. I do not think there was intentional exploitation of the forum. But the change affected some threads significantly.
Frankly speaking, see no other company to communicate with customers here directly (I may be missing some posts).

Yeah, I've never seen another manufacturer post anywhere around here.

This rule cleary doesn't impact individual board members who do runs of customised items or have their own products available for purchase elsewhere.

Would you be able to tell us what the deleted comment about the chainmail said?
