While I agree with your overall point, who are we to say which characters are least popular, though? Let us remember that the first pre-order for Janeway sold out in 20 minutes.

I’m thankful that Nanjin did not start off with TOS Kirk and TNG Picard. Would be tragic if he went the way of the McFarlane Toys Star Trek line.
Yes, I think there were certain assumptions about the market that might have been overly pessimistic.

When he realised TMP Kirk was going to be eay more popular than expected, he srsrted encouraging people to skip him and wait for TWOK. Nanjin claims the Trek market is too small to justify a longer term run. If he's now expanding, we'll see if that also turns out to be incorrect.

I wonder if there's a second motivation to starting off the way he did.

Yes, smaller characters would allow testing the market, as well as allow smaller batches to be produced to test the production capacity. But I think it's also increasing interest. How many people out there (and of course we don't know) had no interest in 1/6 scale, or had no interest in more action figures, only to see reviews and hype and start saying hey, I want to jump on these? I mean, if it wasn't for the fact that I knew Nanjin and had talked to him about the plans, I might have been hesitant to jump in with how Trek lines had fared in the past. Imagine if he called it quits today. A couple mirror figures from TOS, half-finished Voyager, a couple FC, Q, TMP, and Sisko. How disappointed you would be. But it keeps growing and growing, and they've shown commitment to broaden this more and more if they can. I could see word of mouth spreading and more people jumping on. Starting with the big ones would leave less for those new fans to be excited for, especially if they can't afford the aftermarket on some of the older pieces.

I don't know if he mentioned it here or on his Facebook page, but I remember Nanjin saying that part of the reason stuff like TWOK didn't come out first was that he wanted to do those when he was satisfied with the abilities of his team. Looking at FC Data and TMP Kirk, the difference in the quality of work is a big leap.

I was just about to state the same. I believe that he mentioned that the wanted the skills of his employees to grow and be at their peak by the time that the TOS and TNG figures were slated for release. I could be wrong, though.

Ironically, my favorite is still the very first figure released - FC Data.

I you guys are right that’s definitely something Nanjin has said on more than one occasion - he wanted to get the sculpts, paint apps and the costuming skills of his team up to a certain level before going for TNG and TWOK etc.

Yeah I was about to say, FC Data is still their best figure as far as I’m concerned, especially with the extra head sculpt. Maybe the hair sculpt is a bit soft but it’s a minor complaint. A better comparison would be Janeway to Kirk being an absolute night and day difference.

I’d say minimal, Kate Mulgrew has approval rights and specifically said she wanted her later season hair style.

Speaking of that tank tops and undershirts, I'm surprised that Sisko's "fat suit" isn't gray and doesn't come up higher on the chest. In "Rocks and Shoals," a gray undershirt can clearly be seen when he opens his tunic and undoes the top part of his vest. He doesn't seem to be wearing it in "In the Pale Moonlight," so maybe that's why.

Captain Sisko arrived recently,..I'm happy with the figure.

I'll just say this. Never been a "fan" of having perfectly sensible constructive criticism censored in any form. The problem being many fans are so passionate they're either incapable or unwilling to separate the warring halves and emotion runs rampant. Many companies unfortunately choose the quick fix and remove anything that even slightly deviates from the goal of lifting up the product. Often at the expense of an even better product learned from that feedback.

This place is the only one I can say one single negative remark about a Sideshow product for example. That's sad. Even sadder that it creates an echo chamber of yes-men and takes a long time for actual change--if ever.

Nanjin is talking his goal is to have a new figure up for pre-order every two weeks to complete his five year mission.

I’ve always kind of hate that approach of moving things along so fast and being forced to pick and choose. If that’s indeed where things are headed there’s going to come a time where some figures will need to be passed over.

Hopefully there’s enough time between TOS and TNG releases to balance getting at least those two crews for my wants.

I got the impression that it wouldn't be figures back to back from the same series.

It won’t, but still if we want to collect from more than one series that puts us in a bind. I’d like at least TOS and TNG but I still would like to add in characters from the other shows too.

Luckily I think I’m done with VOY after Seven comes out. I’ll need to be selective with DS9 and ENT.
