Finally catching up here, so excited to hear the EVA Pod in 1/6 will be a reality, complete with interior and lights. Definitely will be adding it to the display with the suits, even if it is still 6 months or a year away. Looking forward to any progress images you can share along the way Anthrapoid!

It will be an accurate 1/6 scale. The filming prop was about 7 feet tall, (the debate among experts ranges between 6 feet 9 inches, to 7 feet) so the 1/6th POD will be about 14 inches tall.
There was a pod in the junkyard scenes in The Phantom Menace so I suppose technically this will be the first Star Wars 1/6 vehicle other than the bikes…

I've been researching the art of 2001: A Space Odyssey for many years; sometimes purely out of curiosity and appreciation, and sometimes to help make a project accurate. I've often looked deeply into the available reference materials, and searched for months to uncover new data, trying to find a clear image of that one specific detail that had been elusive for so long. The available data is often insufficient or non-existent; my searches are fruitless all too often. But today, a major breakthrough! I found clear photos of something that I NEVER thought I would see; something that will benefit all of us who are waiting for the Heywood Floyd head sculpt.

From 1968 up until yesterday, literally, there was no way for me to know exactly what the Clavius spacesuit headsets look like up close. The only available sources to work from are shown in the low-resolution mosaic photo below that I put together, and the detail just isn't there. I thought I was going to have to be vague in producing the 1/6th version, and use much more guesswork than I would like. But now, with this new discovery, I know I can make the headsets accurately. Researchers LIVE for moments like this.

Arthropoid, are there any issues with the pleather on the Clavius suit flaking off? I only ask because I saw the suit below on eBay a while back and wondered if this is an old issue now resolved.

That's shocking. I have never seen ANYTHING like that happen to one of the ER suits before. I own four different ones, and they are all still as perfect as the day I received them, which in most cases was about six years ago. The Clavius suit I got more recently of course, but... WOW. What did the owner DO to that thing??? There has to be a story behind it... the suits can't just decompose like that without a lot of help...

I'm not supposed to talk about this, but... I don't want people to be disappointed: I did say "a Moonwatcher figure is coming", which is true - but I never said anything about the scale. People assumed that on their own. A 1/6th version is coming eventually though.

Well, I am grateful for everything you’re doing. I definitely want several of the 1/6 scale Moonwatcher versions.

Sorry about that.

This is why I thought it was 1/6 scale.

There’s already a tiny action figure. 1/6 scale is extremely popular. I can’t imagine many people wanting a 1/3 scale or other scale version. I do hope I live long enough to see the 1/6 scale versions. No, that’s not a joke, that’s a reference to my lymphoma.

Thanks again for everything you’re doing.

I think I know how you feel; I'm 58, and I probably have colon cancer. I wish us both luck, and I hope the 1/6 Moonwatcher comes sooner rather than later. The scale that is being done will be a good learning experience, and it will make the 1/6 version better when it does happen. The kinks are being worked out on a smaller version first, and that will carry over to improve the larger. I'm seeing to that personally.

I hope the best for you. It really is amazing what can be done with modern medicine. When I was undergoing the chemotherapy and radiation treatment, I was thinking about how all of this with Science Fiction years ago.

When they asked me if I had any questions, I wanted so much to ask this one question… If I grow angry or outraged, will a startling metamorphosis occur? :)

All of my posts regarding the custom 1/6 Heywood Floyd head sculpt were moved by admin to the selling section,
so I don't know if the people who need to see the updates will see them.

Note for the admins: I am NOT selling this item. I'm not making any profit from this effort.
I just organized a group of people to share the cost of having an artist produce the head sculpt, and I'm driving the project forward.

Note for members of the group: You can contact me for updates at [email protected].
Search the forum for 'Heywood Floyd' and you'll find the 'for sale' page.
