Yeah, making popular figures hard to get is gonna make me walk away from the line.

It's starting to sound like collecting Mcfarlane.
It's just a numbers game. He can't afford to have stock sticking around soaking up capital so he is drumming up interest by under-producing niche characters. It doesn't matter if you choose to buy or not as long as there is enough interest to clear the stock, which there will be. It's cynical but if you have to make tough decisions to keep businesses viable, especially at the moment, then so be it. This quick frenzied instant purchases are funding the pre-orders, the chairs, and the next iteration of niche characters. He's never going to please everyone so he just has to keep powering forward with the business model that is working for now.

Nanjin posted on Facebook that the Gorn Captain could be an immediate purchase for 2023 and made it sound like it could be super limited (he said it might sell out in an hour).

I have to wonder, why? I know that he has a plan in place for everything and some of the side characters might be more limited, but I feel like of the TOS villains the Gorn Captain is probably one of the top most wanted by a lot of fans.
Interesting. I would say outside of the main crew the Gorn is probably my most wanted TOS figure.

I think that’s a great summary and likely very accurate.

The issue, I think, will be when we get to TWOK. Those figures are going to be off the charts popular with every shape, manner, and form of Star Trek fan, perhaps particularly with those who may have skipped TMP. And the demand will be like nothing Nanjin has seen before. I know Trek fans who have little interest in even the TOS figures who will be all over TWOK.

So if EXO wants to maintain a loyal fan base into their Y2, Y3 releases, the LAST thing they want to do is pi$$ off an even moderate percentage of customers who would have to watch TWOK sell out so early that they don’t have what they will decide is a reasonable chance to secure those figures.

I know these will undoubtedly have a pre-order and not be in the Immediate Purchase category, but the preorders on these will be massive. I sincerely hope Nanjin has his eyes wide open in this regard and will secure the required resources. The preorder should provide the factory with the minimum required production numbers, and not sure how many more would need to be reserved for retailers like Sideshow, etc. But the point is TWOK is going to require some different thinking on EXO’s part.

You know,
In all honesty,
the Gorn character was a limited movement cheap costume in the television production.
I kind of think this character can be produced in a comparatively similiar cost efficient manner. That is : it doesn’t have to be a highly articulated $ 200 figure.
It can be one of those blow molded things like you find in the Hallmark shop or those Schleik dinosaurs. Give him a cloth toga ( or whatever) . Head turns arms move at the shoulder. That’s all I would need . $ 40 or less. Another thought : hollow rubber like those hairless rubber chicken that a Hasbro or 21st Century figure can wear like a prop costume.

I would be fine with Playmate quality. You know a character like this just doesn’t require a high level,of quality. Doesn’t require high articulation. Doesn’t require the attention to resemblence and facial detail as a human actor. Likely cuts out a license approval level. And is essentially a naked figure.

Agreed. I'm one of those fans that skipped TMP (was very hard to do!) but will definitely get TWOK figures.

The Exo-6 site has updated their page with some interesting info.

It looks like several things have been delayed during January and February with the comment they can’t ship during this time. Don’t know if it’s a mix of Covid and the New Year but when March comes things look very different.

There are 5 things slated to go up for preorder! April will bring several more. Looks like in addition to the already teased Next Generation, First Contact, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, we will be seeing a second Deep Space Nine figure as well as a Voyager figure. There are a couple of Discovery figures slated as well.

Most intriguing is two figures listed for TMP!
I assume March will bring us the doctor but another figure is slated for April. Could Ilia be happening?

Yeah, Nanjin has posted updates about COVID being an issue. Plus with the Chinese New Year. We probably won’t get much of anything until mid February or so I’m guessing.

The two releases for TMP are McCoy and the chair I’m fairly certain.

I bet you are correct. I forgot about the chair and blinded for an Ilia.

Yeah I got momentarily excited by that as well, then remembered the TMP chair.

I'm still not totally clear on the different TMP/TWOK chairs he's making. I thought the original idea was to have one chair with interchangeable cushions for each movie, but now it sounds like there will be a TWOK chair with a bigger base and one with a smaller base, and also a separate TMP version?

I see no TWOK on the agenda for 2023.
I guess I can nap and save some money for a while.
Maybe hold on to my Playmates TWOK

As I read this schedule, I think it is showing figures up for preorder only through April.
I expect we will see additional figures from May through December.
Nanjin said to expect up to 4 figures from Deep Space Nine in 2023. I think we will see Wrath of Khan up in 2023 and some maybe even released before year’s end.
