Asmus - Gandalf the White - Crown Line

I R confused. This set looks fantastic. To me it looks every bit as good as “the other companies”. That one is 500. This one is 380 but comes with a damn horse. Hell GTG was 350 wasn’t it? I guess no matter what some people won’t be happy.

This seems like a really good deal considering you get Shadowfax plus Gandalf.

Not sure if I’d prefer Gandalf the Grey or Gandalf the White (wouldn’t get them both).

Amazing work on this one @Asmus you guys knocked it out of the park and the fact that it’s a production piece is incredible. Sculpt, paint and hair work looks really well done.

The fact that you guys can deliver this quality at this price including a full size horse shows how much of a mark up other companies are hitting us with

I just wasn’t expecting a horse bundle. Heck Mouth of Sauron got a stand alone release. But the price is not terrible for what’s included.

I'm guessing that Gandalf the White will get a "Slim" version in a year or so for just the man himself.

Asmus may not even know this will happen yet. I come from the future.

If GtG was 350 I don’t expect this to be any less.

When I was ordering the site kept on giving me an error code. I was paying with PayPal. I eventually realized my credit card was flagging it as suspicious activity. I’m like, what’s so suspicious about a 54 year old man buying an action figure? I have lots of history with PayPal and Asmus. I can’t believe they even flagged it

Is there a chance Gandalf will be sold on his own? Don’t care too much to have Shadowfax (or the space), so just having him in the box forever seems like a waste. Would love a single release of Gandalf on his own if possible.

I sure wish Gandalf the Grey's eyes were handled like this....

In my opinion the price is great for what you are getting. It’s just the realization of having to spend it at once that is hard. For me if it had been a preorder I would have saved up for it over a few months time and it wouldn’t sting the wallet nearly as much.

Lol. I was half expecting a text or call from the credit card company myself as well.

Having said that,I am using PayPal pay in 4 cause,Xmas.

It is the only way I get the best of both worlds here.

Get with one of the members here who doesn’t want the horse and offer a fair price

Pretty nice. I’ll give it a few days to see how prices and delivery times vary across sellers and then I’ll place my order.

One Aspect of the figure is troubling me though; I can’t find any justification for the outer skirt piece being anywhere near as dark as Asmus have made it.

The actual Gandalf the White costume is mostly a creamy white but Asmus have got pristine white. That in itself would be fine- but the on screen skirt piece is a very pale beige that blends subtly with the cream white but Asmus have gone more taupe which contrasts pretty heavily and accentuates the differences.





His actual boots look like smooth leather but we’re getting felt.

They came close with the costume but I at least prefer Asmus’ sculpt and beard length. For the price and the fact you get Shadowfax as well, it’s a good set.

I’m cautiously optimistic for this. That wide shot of the full set makes his fake look like it’s cut from a rich mahogany. I noticed the “skirt” seems way too dark and it should be a shade lighter than the robe. Minor but annoying.

I ordered it and will give Asmus one last shot with this one but I worry that like Gandalf the Grey it will end up not earning the shelf space when there’s so many near perfect figures competing for real estate.

I mostly agree.

I like Asmus’ sculpt more, the Viper one looks like Alec Baldwin dressed as Gandalf.

I like the Asmus outer robe more.

The Asmus vest and sleeves are way too white and the vest is very shiny. I think the Viper is better in everything below the neck and top robe.

The skirt being too dark is really the only negative to me. This is a great looking figure.

It’s an absolute bargain given the horse. Criticism on price point really isn’t valid on this one.

I really didn’t want to do it but I’ll be picking one up. I would imagine this figure should be putting Asmus back on the map.

I don't like the bristly mustache.

Water treatment will do wonders for the poofiness.

The slightly off colors don't bother me.

I'm pretty confused on Gandalf's outfit in those stills -- is the "vest" and tan skirt one piece? Is the vest even a vest or are those sleeves attached... which then makes that strange tan skirt seem like an odd piece, like it should be separate but it looks sewn to the "vest".

I wish I could say I'm seeing the likeness in the sculpt but it's still not there for me.

As a package, absolutely a great deal, though.
