He's arrived and he's pretty good.

The sculpt paintwork is very subtle, which hasn't been picked up by any of the photographs, including the prototype ones that gave off a slight translucent quality. I think the likeness is there, especially looking a bit up and to the side.

The clothes feel good, but the coat is awkward. His arms are thin and the sleeves are full, so bending the arms creates large, unnatural looking creases. I may pad his arms to see if it has any effect.

One problem is that he's too short for a classic black oval stand. That type worked for Eleven, but it must be the thickness of Dustin's trousers that raises him up too high on the crotch grabber, so his feet don't touch the base.

I haven't done anything with him yet - feels like it'll need a hairdryer to safely change the hands - but a few quick photos prove that the sculpt doesn't like the flash.

The flash washes out the paint:

No flash:

Got to do something with the coat or the arms.

I can probably solve the stand problem by sawing the support down to lower the grabber height.

With the coat off his arms are scarily stick thin for a chubby kid. Like bones without flesh.

I cut four strips of wadding and wrapped them around his upper and lower arms to flesh the bones, taping the ends to secure them into tubes.

Putting the coat back on I think it's an improvement as the arms now fill out the excess material of the sleeves.

After padding the arms:

A functioning stand is going to be essential because his ankles aren't very tight.

Using heat to change the hands is also probably essential. I also had to heat up the hand to hold the walkie talkie, so the fingers would flatten out to pass under the strap, and to get the thumb to bend up enough so the ends of the fingers could extend far enough to complete the grip.

I'm pretty pleased with how the production figure turned out. Modding the arms certainly helped with the issue of him looking swamped by the coat.

I cut 4mm off the top of the stand support, and that was all that was necessary to set the wire low enough to accommodate his short legs.

Can't work out how the headset should fit, or whether it can actually fit properly as the earphone sticks out against his mop of hair. Threezero never showed the right side of his face so there likely isn't a way to make it look correct.

For good or bad it looks like the proto. If you didn't like the proto then you weren't going to like the production. Yeah, it could have been better. Hype for this show is waning, especially in the 1/6 market. They need to show the rest of the kids. I'm in but I need more than just an illustrated image.

The proto looked a bit iffy with the sculpt paint and the fit of the clothing.

The sculpt paint is better than it looked in the proto photos. Since it's so subtle, along with the face being so smooth, it's hard to photograph.

He needs to be in a light box or something. I have to use the flash, so to eliminate the worst of the effect of it I also have to take the shots from a distance.

I took dozens of photos a little while ago and this, sadly, was the best of them:

The clothing fits better than the proto. The trousers aren't so long, and bulking up the arms fixed the coat. The production hands also look better than the proto, where they appeared withered and creepy in some shots.

Looks like I was able to find ONE Instagram user that uploaded photos.

Thoughts?

I can’t tell if it’s just a difference between the promo shots and how this private collector took photos or not… But originally the head sculpt looked really soft and I was a bit worried. These in hand photos look a lot better to me. The nose looks like it has more shape, his eyes actually look alive… I’m glad I pre-ordered him!

I think you'll like him in hand.

Seems to me that even the photographer of the prototype failed to capture him properly. I don't like looking at my own photos of him because they don't reflect how much better he looks on the shelf.

Even D'Artagnan looks better than the little green lump he appeared to be. He's hard plastic and quite well sculpted and painted.

I hope Threezero keep on going with these like they have with The Walking Dead line.

That's encouraging to hear (read). Thanks for the excellent overview/ review of this figure. Looking forward to getting mine more now.

They need to show the rest of the kids. I'm in but I need more than just an illustrated image.

It's been almost two months since Threezero teased Will and Mike, implying they were going to show some actual figures soon...

[threezero SummerFest 2022 Day 3]
We are going to announce upcoming characters from the Stranger Things 1/6th scale articulated figure series today on our SummerFest 2022 website!

...SummerFest oddly took place in Autumn.

Then they did a Comic Con in Malaysia and didn't show Will or Mike.
Ever since the announcement it's been a barrage of robots and anime. :impatient:

The Transformers Con in Chicago last month probably threw a spanner into their plans.

2022 has been all robots and anime for them. Honestly, Threezero has gone down a few notches in my eyes.

They used to have the odd gem in there but everything this year is almost HT level single mindedness.

Picked up Eleven and Demogorgon with a 15% off coupon from Sideshow. Hopefully will get another coupon when this is in stock there.
