Between the eye issue and the EMH eyes not looking quite right, I think this is a consequence of them trying to work from promotional photos to build the sculpts rather than 3D scans (like Hot Toys likely has access too for their Marvel and modern SW lines).

The above image of Tuvok is a good example, there was some initial skepticism about the Beltran sculpt by some people on Twitter as well until I pointed out that it looked bang on to an S5 promo photo.

It does look like Tim Russ has one very slightly lazy eye, as all of his promotional photos (as proved above) have the eye line being very slightly off between them, but this could be lighting.

If the entire artist team were Trekfectionists like all of us here these sorts of things would probably be tweaked for aesthetics, but they're probably working to order.

I just noticed - I think I will paint the third pip a bit more black? There is some gold shining through at the edges and only a small black dot in the middle, should it not be completely black?

I do agree that these Voyager figures seems to have "soft" paint apps overall. Janeway looks particularly plastic-y.
Janeway might be the weakest EXO-6 sculpt in terms of paint apps to date in my opinion. If I had the skills I would attempt a repaint but I don’t want to screw it up.

Should be black only in the center, so gold around the edges is correct!

Trekfectionists! Can I borrow that?
I've spoken with a lot of people (sculptors, etc) working for EXO-6, and they are definitely very passionate about making these figures the best they can, while meeting studio requirements. Not always an easy balance!

The older shows (pre 2017) definitely have more limited references. Artists have to rely on mainly on-screen references, so lots of screen captures provide the bulk of the reference material. Sometimes promotional materials can be used as they are often higher resolution - as sadly DS9 and VOY are still not available in HD.

Sometimes a very specific expression will be chosen - eg, the TMP Kirk was sculpted based on the moment when he sees the Enterprise for the first time.

Of course, borrow away!
No insult intended to the sculptors, painters or anyone else involved in the process. I know I couldn't do it worth a damn so have endless respect for not only their skills, but the fact that they're using them to finally deliver some good Voyager merch for us fans that have been left in the wilderness for decades. Studios are a whole other layer of complication as well.

It's almost a shame this is happening now instead of after the Voy documentary, as they're trying to get some footage remastered (they haven't confirmed anything yet though).

Either way, they're going to be the pride of my collection.

Oh thank you! I'll leave it then as it is!
I always thought those were proper black pips. Interesting!
(also, shame on me for doubting they would get this detail wrong!)
To be fair, you have to look very closely to tell otherwise! When I was first watching in the '90s, I thought they were black too.

So often I learn about special details via the figures and only then see them in TV, stuff I hadn't noticed before. I will definitely check for it the next time I watch an episode!

I don't give a damn about the human characters but now that there's an Andorian I going to have to put my money where my mouth is. (And this after just putting up for Mondo Battlecat and with JoyToy Shadowsun peeking over the horizon.😵)

Anyway, definitely will get an armoured Hirogen Hunter and Species 8472 if they are made.

He looks great! 👍

Well here's my Tuvok after a few paint tweaks. Repainted the eyes and lips, lightened the nose, thickened the eyebrows, and gave him some slight 5 o'clock shadow.

It's my first try at painting an African-American skin tone and was a bit more challenging than I expected, but I think it probably came out OK in the end. And if I accomplished nothing else, at least he's looking straight ahead now. Lol
