The mouse is gonna snag these guys up in the next 5 yrs. Lol. If you can’t do anything with the most popular superhero ever (Superman) then you pretty much have shown you are an incompetent studio. I don’t see them lasting for very long .

I can see a lot of anti-trust and monopoly lawsuits if they tried. Having pretty much the entire catalogue of world-renown heroes under one company would be a bridge too far for some… yet the ones who were supposed to bust this up before they got this large failed to do their job before because they saw dollar signs, so who knows?

I hate the strangle-hold on IPs Disney has already, but I do admit they certainly wouldn’t sit on Superman. We got four Thor movies and he shows up in five other projects. Superman hasn’t had a solo movie in 9 years.

Ooooh, if Disney bought WB/DC what would be the possibility of getting a Taika Waititi Superman movie??? :panic:

Wouldn't that be something special!! :yess:

:monkey3

But seriously, I would cringe if Disney bought DC and did what they are doing to the current MCU... :yuck

I still like almost everything the MCU is doing, and oddly enough the only one I outright dislike is what my wife and I said felt like an overwrought DCEU film (take a wild guess).

Just watched Love & Thunder and while I do like it, it’s also the only one of the films that I feel went overboard on the jokes, and not because the jokes were there but because they just weren’t funny (or like all jokes, they were funnier the first time in Ragnarok). Good humor can elevate drama and build characters and relationships.

But I’d love more DC projects like Moon Knight, Black Widow, No Way Home, and Shang-Chi. I’d like a funny Plastic Man show like She-Hulk or a wacky Atom film like Ant-Man too.

I have hope DCEU will get back on rails starting with The Black Adam Film. If it doesn't, well, it is not the end fo the world.

They think/thought The Rock's huge fandom would carry the movie rather than just the comic book nerd/current Superhero fans from around the world.

But, I don't think thats gonna happen. This isn't a F&F movie. I don't think it'll bomb, but it will be just another mid tier movie. I'm curious if it will make more than Thor L&T did.

WB received tracking data this past week that BA is set to bomb at the box office.

They are in panic mode i’m sure.
We'll see. The Rock is a big star, but we have plenty of examples of big films that just didn't impress anyone. Who remembers "Jungle Cruise", or "Rampage", or "San Andreas" as big deals?

And Black Adam is not Superman or Spider-Man or Iron Man. Even as a fan of the character, the comics have never made him out to be THAT big of a deal. He's a mid-tier Shazam villain. Johnson could elevate him, sure, but nobody was clamoring for a Black Adam movie louder than they were a new Superman film.

Still, I think it'll do well enough. My prediction is it'll just make a small profit, won't outright bomb, and won't either save or kill the DCEU.

I don’t think it’ll bomb but it’s not going to be a hit. It’s a movie nobody really wants.

Unfortunately for the DCEU, I think you guys are right. I doubt this will be a hit. It'll probably do Shazam-level business.
If they pulled off a Cavill-Superman cameo though...

I’m turned off big time by the Rock’s pro wrestler shtick as he’s applying it in this genre. It really rubs me the wrong way. I’m not a wrestling fan. I don’t have any particular interest in the Black Adam character. Johnson is pushing to make his character the marquee attraction for the franchise, which is absurd given that Superman was benched for the better part of a decade and Ben Affleck as Batman was driven out. I do not support this!

However, on the other hand David Zaslav apparently has re-signed Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck… and as we know he fired the former WB regime, thank goodness… and I am prepared to reward that by seeing Black Adam. I’m positive that Henry and Ben are appearing in The Flash and AM2 respectively if and only if they have been re-signed—and credit there goes to David Zaslav. I don’t think the Rock deserves any credit for it tbh. The very first trade article (Variety) after WBD took over WB informed us that David Zaslav wants to bring Superman back into the game (after the character was benched for the better part of a decade 🤦‍♂️) and to feature the DC trinity prominently. Assuming that we get an announcement of Henry and Ben getting new contracts, I will see BA to support the very positive things I see WBD doing. It still bugs me that the Rock is apparently trying to capitalize on all this, to try to make himself a bigger deal than he really is.

And I will add that if we get confirmation that Ben and Henry have been re-signed to new contracts, then I think it’s important that we do support WBD for that. The way to support WBD will be to see it’s DCEU movies. I just hope that all this is handled in a respectful way. Because if it isn’t I have little interest in seeing Black Adam per se. For me personally I need to get the news that Ben and Henry are back for multiple pictures, and that the Rock is not unduly credited for any of that. Then I can support BA.

If Cavill is back and appearing in Black Adam for a one scene cameo as rumour has it, then I would guess that this had a lot to do with Dwayne Johnson. Cavill's agent is the Rock's agent / business partner and ex wife, they also seem to get on in real life. The final decision would rest with Zaslav but the Rock has been trying to make this happen for a long time (apparently so he can get a sequel either where he comes up against Superman or the Justice League) and he does have the connection to make the deal.

I am a wrestling fan from yesteryear and I don't mind the Rock's movies for the most part but the only way I would bother to see BA in the cinema is if Cavill appears in it, otherwise straight to streaming for me like all the rest.

If Black Adam has plenty of good action scenes, does a good job with the JSA… plus it has all but been confirmed Henry Cavill cameos at the end... It should do about $800M.

The Rock knows that his movies are mostly entertainment. He's not trying to go for the Oscars or anything. He knows he has audience pull so he uses that fact to build hype and get people to spend money to watch his movies in the box office.

He tends to do...I hesitate to say ensemble...kitchen sink movies? I hear people say he was good in those Car Movies but I've never heard anyone say that they were psyched for Jungle Cruise. Or liked Jungle Cruise. Or saw Jungle Cruise.

I thought he was good in Moana. :dunno
