My 2nd one arrived so he's going for a repaint + hair. Also waiting on the fabric to arrive so can send off to a seamstress.

I saw this on Facebook but so far no professional repaints as of yet.

Do know lots of Facebook haven't received theirs from kg hobby yet.

I find myself continuing to debate getting this...
I would skip it if it's that much of a debate. The sculpt is a bit of a let down. To their credit it looks like the proto, but it wasn't great to begin with. Some of the repainted heads look okay, but not great. Even the "pro" painters haven't improved it vastly. I think re-hairing the beard is the way to go, but I still think it won't be a homerun. Your hesitation should tell you all you need to know.

thought I'd share a few pics of my alterations thus far!
So I have painted the overcoat with some fabric paints into a more accurate (to my eye) grey colour (with the tiniest hint of blue - it comes across more blue in the photos than real life where its more a pewter grey tone) and I also painted the lapels and cuffs into the different charcoal grey-black colour.
I've darkened off the waistcoat by leaving it in a very strong pot of coffee for a few hours and then I went over it in a diluted orange fabric paint wash to slightly pick up those colours from the waistcoat as I felt this was more accurate to the film.
I also painted its buttons (originally black) into a muted silver like they are in the movie.
I also darkened the gold trim to make it more an antique gold colour rather than a bright yellow-gold.
I then stained the sash lightly with a cup of tea.
The trousers and boots were likewise stained with a strong pot of coffee, mixed with a small amount of black fabric paint. What I liked about this method is that it didn't stain them both a flat colour and there are different tones in both pieces. Despite how it may look in these photos they are clearly differentiated from one another by tone, with the boots being a deeper black-brown and the trousers coming across as an aged very dark brown-blue-grey.

My plan is to find some black emroidery cotton to add to the coat in order to make the embroidered raised black loops around the button areas and attach it - I will also add these loops to the wrist cuffs and I have some small 1/6 metal shank buttons on the way to add to the cuffs - which ought to make it all a lot more accurate!

I am of two minds regarding the outer coat - the original plan was to try painting the coat then drawing on the dots using a stencil and seeing how it turns out (with the idea being that if it looks bad I would commit to the covering the coat in a better choice of fabric) as the "cheap and cheerful" solution - but to my surprise I actually like how the coat is looking so far and I'm worried I might ruin it by adding the dots - what do you all think?

As for the base, I thought it looked a little bare/plain so I'm going to stick on some preserved moss on the top to replicate a type of seaweed and then my plan is to add some gold coins and coat it all in a clear glazing resin to mimic water - what do you think?

Looking really good @lordnastrond! I can't wait to see it put all together.
I really love seeing the work everyone is doing on this figure. This is a really fun figure to customize.

My coat is progressing slowly but surely. I had to teach myself to draw patterns, sew and create pleats, but it was nice to add new skills to my arsenal.
Here's where I'm at so far. The sleeves I made was slightly too tight, so I'm making a wider version. I'm also waiting to hem the bottom to length until the end. I'll be adding the details soon and will be printing some buttons. I'm also drawing up his spyglass to 3D print.

Is it the camera or do the black dots look darker at the top of the coat? Really really good job on this!
I think the camera washed out the dots. The dots are pretty consistent as you can see on the full length shots.
They read as black, but if you really look closely at the material from the shirt in person, the threads are a dark grey.

How did you get the dimpling of the fabric around the dots, Vash? Is it a trick of the light on the pattern? It sells really well.
I did what I said I wouldn't do and threaded pieces of yarn through the needle loops on the back of the material. Took a couple of hours and a lot of patience, but it was kind of relaxing.

I also made new 1/2' real leather baldric this morning and designed and printed the buttons.

What!? Now that's impressive. I'm not sure I fully understand what you did, but if you mean threaded through each 'dot' on the backside, then yeah... patience is an understatement.

I can clearly see you having the best custom Barbossa if you keep up this level of redo. And very little left of the SW Toys Caspian Pirate.

See Wor, if you purchase this figure you'll always look back at Vash's custom and look at yours and shake your head.

I posted it a few posts ago, but here's the sample. I purchased a long needle with a wide eye and it threads really easily through the back loops.

This figure is a good inspiration and jumping point, but we'll see how much more I will replace. For the price, this figure is pretty nice as is, but can be made even better with some TLC as others on this thread have been doing.
