If you want to spend 81 posts discussing a movie, do it in a movie thread.

A lot of the posts weren't even about the movie this figure is from!

There's leeway in threads, but then there's occasions like this when the drift is completely ridiculous:
I understand and I agree that we did steer off topic.
But I do think the decent thing to do would have been to warn us, allow us the time to copy paste our comments onto the movie section so we can continue the conversation there and THEN delete them.
This approach of deleting the posts with no warning is a little paternalistic.
We are all reasonable adults here and I think we would respond better if you treated us as such.

The posts haven't gone. They're just hidden.

I could move them, but at the time it was a case of bringing order to anarchy.

I can move them to The Batman (June 25, 2021) thread. A lot of them were about TDK but they'll all have to go in together otherwise the flow will have broken.

That's what Batman does! So our posts did have the "intent" of Batman behind them.

Honestly though, I understand rude dialogue getting erased, political arguments getting erased, etc... but fairly orderly and civil discussion of the merits of Batman in his movies IS part of The Batman dialogue when COLLECTING Batman figures. The movies ARE why we collect. Talking about them is one of the last things that should get cut.

Just my opinion as a long time guest here.

This is an unruly comment that will cause anarchy in these forums.

I propose this comment to be moved to the opinion section of the website, commonly known as the 'delete button'.

Eh, it is one of the reasons this site is a ghost town now.

Anyhow,

I got my PO in for the all-you-can-eat version, waiting to see what HT brings and if not, I'll sell it after. Can't just give SSC a free $51 NRD.

The forum has sections, and there's leeway when discussion in a figure thread drifts a little into analysis of the film, series, actors, writers etc, but when it runs on for 81 posts it's blatantly wrong.

The rules specifically state:

Thread Drifting/Steering

Please keep discussions on topic.

The topic of InArt's 1/6 action figure certainly isn't whether The Dark Knight's Batman was any good or not. :lol

Keeping everything in it's rightful place is like trying to herd cats lately. :lol

Wow, was it really 81! That's crazy.

I do not envy your responsibilities.

I suppose 81 posts is excessive; didn't seem that long at the time. We need someone responsible for always mentioning the figure every 5th post so that doesn't happen again.

I have to ask, though, why does it matter? Fine, it's not always pertaining to the figure of the thread, but is it better to have no posts than to have posts discussing Batman in general?

I can understand that some people might want that cut out so that they can get info on the figure, but I don't really see how it's any different than the conversation of a strand of his hair being out of place being discussed for 6 pages is any different, it's not like someone can direct themselves through the chaff to get answers of what they want.

The rules are written.

The forum has specific sections in which certain discussions should dominate.

Not wanting to discuss movies in the Movie forum is no excuse.

In the future I won't take the time to move and undelete posts. If there's blatant off-topic drift that goes on for pages the posts will stay deleted.
